The Great Samu vs Dino Bravo The Great Samu who is managed by Floyd Creatchman defends his International title against former Champ Dino Bravo. Quick Bio on The Great Samu: Samula Anoai is best known as one half of The Headshrinkers/Samoan Swat Team under the name Samu. His father is Afa of the legendary Wild Samoans trained Samula for his professional wrestling debut at age 14. Samula's first shot at stardom would come 6 years later when uncle Sika (part of the reigning WWF Tag Team Champions) went down with an injury. Samula would help the Wild Samoans defend the tag-team titles a handful of times while Sika recovered. When Sika returned Samula would remain with the WWF backing up his father and uncle. In January of 84' he received a shot at WWF World Heavyweight Champion Bob Backlund but ended up losing by disqualification. During the summer of 84' Samula turned face after the Wild Samoas left the WWF. Samula teamed up with Hulk Hogan during WWF's tours in Japan, both times facing Japanse legends Antonio Inoki and Tatsumi Fujinami. After the WWF experience, Samula joined International Wrestling. In Montreal he was given the name The Great Samu and was managed by Eddie "The Brain" Creatchman & also his son Floyd who would use the Samoan to target the top faces in the territory. Samu would eventually feud with the top baby face in the territory Dino Bravo, even going so far as to defeat him for the "International Heavyweight Title" on in June of 86'. Samu held on to the title until November 3, 1986 where he was beaten by "Dr. D" David Schultz. When International Wrestling closed a few months later Samu went looking for warmer weather. When the Montreal territory closed up the He would team up with his cousin Prince Alofa and head to the warm shores of Puerto Rico and the World Wrestling Council their they would become the Samoan Swat Team: Samu & Fatu. They used the "Samoan savage" gimmick that had made their fathers so well known and feared through out the wrestling world, working barefoot and never speaking english on camera. They became the first ever WWC Carrribean Tag-Team Champions on November of 87' when they beat Invader I and Invader III. The duo held the titles for just over a month before dropping them to Mark Youngblood and Chris Youngblood just before leaving the territory. Samu and Fatu would next appear in Texas, working for World Class Championship Wrestling. Buddy Roberts brought them in to fight his fights against the Von Erich Family and former Fabulous Freebirds partner Michael Hayes. SST was given a big push right away and were a unstoppable force that would beat the hometown heroes Kerry and Kevin Von Erich for the WCCW Tag-Team Titles in August of 88'. The Samoans remained undefeated in WCCW until they came up against Roberts' former partner Michael Hayes and Hayes new partner, "Do It To It" Steve Cox one month later in September. SST was not without the gold for long as they recapture the titles only 4 days later. Hayes & Cox would beat the Samoan Swat Team for the titles once again in October but this time they only held the gold for two days before they lost it back to the SST. The Samoan Swat Team become double champions as they beat "Hollywood" John Tatum and Jimmy Jack Funk for the WCWA Texas Tag Team Championship. The SST made their Pay Per View debut at AWA Superclash III, the first (and only) PPV that the American Wrestling Association ever presented. The Samoans successfully defended their WCCW Tag-Team titles against Michael Hayes and Steve Cox. In the beginning of 89' the Samoans left WCCW, forcing both tag-team titles to be vacated due to the sudden departure. The Samoan Swat Team signed with Jim Crockett Promotions and was brought in as manager Paul E. Dangerously's replacements for the "Original" Midnight Express who had left the promotion. The Samoans also took over the "Original" Midnight Express' feud with the Midnight Express beating the team at Clash of the Champions VI in April of 89'. At The 89' Great American Bash the Samoans teamed with former rival Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy and Jimmy Garvin losing a War Games Match to The Road Warriors, the Midnight Express and Steve Williams. In the fall of 1989 Paul E. Dangerously was phased out and the Samoans were given a new manager "The Big Kahuna" Oliver Humperdink. Their ranks were also bolstered by the addition of The Samoan Savage who is Fatu's brother. The Samoans started to lose more and more matches as 1989 drew to a close, but their fortunes appeared to be changing due to the injury to Sid Vicious. Because Vicious was injured the Skyscrapers had to pull out of the "Iron Team Tournament" at Starrcade 1989 and the Samoan Swat Team were chosen to be their replacements -- Fatu and the Samoan Savage with no explanation of why the more experienced Samu was not chosen. For the remainder of the Samoan Swat Team's time in WCW Fatu and the Samoan Savage competed under the name while Samu made a few singles appearances. RANDOLPH TURPIN TRIBUTE Randolph Adolphus Turpin was born in Leamington on 7th June 1928, the son of Lionel Fitzherbert Turpin and Beatrice Whitehouse. Lionel was the first black man in Leamington, after Boxing was in the family, and Randy's elder brother Dick turned professional when Randy was nine years old. Randy the youngest ever ABA champion and also the first black boxer to win an ABA Championship. Randy began 1951 by destroying Dutchman Luc Van Dam in 48-seconds to win the European Middleweight title. His success continued with another defeat to be avenged, this time Jean Stock. Randy defeated Stock by knockout in round five, the same round in which he had lost some three years before. Three more knockout victories would follow, including the defeat of the highly rated Jan de Bruin. Randy having now avenged both of his defeats and beaten some high calibre opposition was handed a World title fight. His opponent the seemingly invincible Sugar Ray Robinson, in Earls Court, London. Robinson was reaching the end of a European tour, which had seen him defeat a selection of hand-picked opponents. Throughout the tour Robinson had suffered numerous setbacks including Jan de Bruin walking from the ring, and a Disqualification loss (which was later changed to a no-contest). Robinson arrived in Britain in an open-topped Pink Cadillac, accompanied by 53 cases and an entourage of eight including a hairdresser, odd-job man, and a midget whose job was to be a court jester. Randy would receive a purse of $28,000, whilst Robinson would receive treble Randy's purse with $84,000. Randy out-punched, out-muscled, and dominated Robinson on his way to becoming World Middleweight Champion. Randy instantly became a British hero, and in front of thousands was paraded around his hometown of Leamington in an open top car. While many shock defeats have appeared over the years, they are almost always by a lucky punch. Randy's win was different, he out-boxed and out-fought the champion for the entire contest, leaving the result in no doubt. Sugar Ray acknowledged that he was soundly beaten with by stating: "You were real good. I have no alibis. I was beaten by a better man" Sugar Ray Robinson Robinson used a clause in the contract that guaranteed a re-match. Robinson's preparation was much improved and he added 3lbs of weight after being bullied around the ring in England. Randy purse would be vastly improved from the first fight, as he earned $207,075. Robinson despite being the challenger would receive more with $248,491. The return fight was held at the Polo Grounds in New York and drew 61,370 spectators, a record for Middleweights. Despite his dominance in their first fight, Randy would still be a 6-to-4 underdog. Randy fought just like he did in the first fight and was getting to Robinson. Going into the tenth round the fight was even on the referee's scorecard, with four rounds each and one even. Midway through the tenth round, a right-hand Randy split Robinson's left eye so badly the fight could have been stopped. Fearing the stoppage Robinson threw everything he had at Randy, who chose the unwise move of fighting back rather than defending. Robinson landed a series of good body punches, followed by left and right hooks. A huge right cross put Randy down for a count of seven, before Robinson landed a barrage of punches with Randy pinned to the ropes, with only seven seconds of the round to go the fight was stopped by referee Ruby Goldstein. Randy's reign as Middleweight boxing king had ended after just 64 days. Randy was unhappy with the stoppage stating: Randy retire from the ring after a career spanning twelve years. With many troubles in his life Randy committed suicide on May 17 1966, aged just 37. Following his death Randy has received an induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. English National Sheepdog Trials 2007 - Sophie Holt Interview and edited condensed version of Sophie Holt running her uncles Border Collie, Sid, at the English National Sheepdog Trials on 16th August 2007. Sophie, aged 15, was the youngest compeitor at the event and also the last to run her dog. By then it was raining. Sorry for the rain on the lens! For those unfamiliar with this sport (and country pursuit for a working Border Collie and handler) it works like this. The team of dog and handler start at a post at the bottom of the trials field. The sheep are released at the top. The dog is sent off either left or right to get up behind the sheep - This is called the 'OUTRUN'. The dog should go wide and low so the sheep do not see it approaching, coming up quietly behind them. The dog starts the sheep moving down the field - this is called the 'LIFT'. It should be done smoothly, without panicking the sheep and causing them to scatter or run. Having got them moving down the field towards the handler the dog guides them through a 'gate'. This is called the 'FETCH' and should be smooth and in as straight a line as possible. Having reached the handler the dog should stop and hold the sheep in a ring in front of the post. The next stage of the trial is called the 'DRIVE'. The handler sends the dog to drive the sheep diagonally across the field to another 'gate' and through then turning, drives the sheep across the width of the field to another 'gate' on the far side, turning again and bringing them back to the ring. During all these stages the handler should remain at the post, controlling the dog with whistles or verbal commands. Once back in the ring the dog has to split two sheep off from the rest. These two are marked with collars. This is called the 'SHED'. The handler is allowed to assist and man and dog work as a team. The two sheep that are 'shed' from the others are sent out of the ring while the others should stay in the ring. Finally we have the 'PEN', where dog and handler work together to get all the sheep into a pen together and the gate shut. At the point the gate shuts the run is over. Each stage is allocated a maximum number of points and the judges deduct points for faults by the dog or the handler. At the end of the run the remaining points are added up to give the score for the run. The run is also against the clock and a maximum time is set according to the difficulty of the run. If the time is exceeded before the run is complete the team will loose points on the incomplete sections/s. Serious faults by either the dog or handler can result in disqualification, however the handler can also 'retire' before the end of the run if it goes badly against them. At the end of the whole event, the handler and dog with the most points (that is the least faults) is the winner!
