Bulls vs. Jazz - 1987 - Jordan 47 pts (The Other Flu Game) In the 1987-88 season, Jordan was on his way to his DPOY and first MVP as well as other individual awards such as the All Star MVP and Slam dunk champion. Just 24 hours before this game, he had scored a season-low of 16 points against Golden State. Even though he also had 9 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals, the people who were close to him knew he wasn't satisfied with his own performance and that somebody would have to pay for it in the next game. It just happened to be the Jazz. But this time there was another obstacle for Jordan. Just like his unforgettable 1997 Finals Game 5 in Utah, Jordan was fighting a cold and was weak before the game. After playing for only 6 minutes in the 1st quarter he sits down to rest. However, when Jazz opens up 14 point lead at the beginning of 2nd quarter, he quickly goes in and pulls the Bulls within six points at the end of the half. Second half is no different. The game is close until Jordan has to sit down in order to get some rest at the beginning of the 4th. When he is on the bench the inevitable happens and Jazz opens up a 7 point lead just 4:50 to go in the game. Then Jordan comes in again and takes over the game by scoring 9 points, dishing out 3 assists and getting one steal. Bulls win 105-101. Ten years before his famous flu game, this is "the other" flu game. This game also has one of Jordan's most memorable dunks. As documented in "Come Fly With me", just before the end of the 2nd quarter Jordan dunks over Stockton. ""Hey, why don't you pick on somebody your own size!", yells a fan from the courtside. The next time Jordan gets the ball, he grants the wish by dunking it over 6"11' Jazz center Mel Turpin. Then turns the fan and says, "Was he big enough for you?" Pippen, who comes from the bench as a rookie this season, dislocates his left thumb and leaves the game in the 3rd. Jordan finishes with 47 points (17-27, 63% shooting), 9 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and a game-high 3 blocks. You'll also see Malone's dangerous foul on Jordan that comes late inn the 4th quarter. Even the Jazz announcers are very critical of him for this foul. In a timeout, when they're not on the air, one of the announcers says, "if I were the ref, I'd have thrown Malone out of the game for that. That could have seriously injured him". They also can't believe how Jordan managed to keep his balance after that foul. I think it's another example of his superior body control. Malone (33/14) and Stockton (14/11) also have solid games but they come up short in the end. Especially Malone loses his temper quite a few times in this game. The Jazz announcers have tremendous respect for Jordan's game even this early in his career, in 1987. They constantly praise him not only for his offensive skills but also for his lock down defense. Here are some notes and post game quotes from Chicago Sun-times: "You saw a team out there tonight that was tired," Doug Collins said. "We were dragging in cement. But Jordan took over and brought us through and showed why he is one of the greatest if not the greatest player in the game." "We needed every one of his points tonight. I kept calling on him. I don't know where he gets his energy from. He plays like he has rockets on his feet." "I was fighting a cold. But I just turned up the dial and did what I could." Jordan said. "Michael Jordan was unstoppable," said Mark Eaton, the Jazz' 7-4 center. "There's no way you can stop him one on one." "They played a great game," said Jazz coach Frank Layden, "and the people got what they wanted. They go to see Jordan play." "He's a great player - one of a kind," said Jazz guard Bobby Hansen, who fouled out trying to guard Jordan. "He completely took over the game." When power forward Karl Malone, who scored a team-high 33 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, was whistled for a flagrant elbow against Paxson and was given a technical, fans threw coins and programs onto the court and play had to be halted to clean up. "I can't remember seeing that kind of hostility in a while," said Bull center Artis Gilmore, who had six points, three rebounds and two blocks for his night's work. The fatigue Collins spoke of was apparent in the first half. And the Jazz, especially guard John Stockton and Darrell Griffin, exploited the Bulls' lax defense in the middle with 12 points apiece to build a 32-20 lead in the early second. Stockton was driving through the middle for easy layups until Jordan plugged it up and shut him down. --------- Tags: Michael Jordan Bird Magic Iverson Kobe Lebron Shaq Yao Carmelo Tmac jazz malone stockton |

Hip Hop/Jazz Dance - Sierra College Dance Club *READ - sierra college is a JR college with NO dance program whatsover except beginners classes in jazz and ballet. This dance was one of many in a show put together by girls on their own time in their own space. STOP BASHING already. Nowhere does it say that this is a professional college level dance. If you can dance better, good for you. Stop bashing. Comments are filtered for a reason; i have written this due to VERY many excessively rude comments. (I have taken most down) ...One of the dances from Sierra College Dance Club's "An Evening Of Dance"... Our junior college doesn't really have a dance program so we put together a club and this was our first show.... we basically all made up stuff and practiced at each other's houses or wherever we could find space and put on this show just because we all love to dance.... :) :) :) It is to Janet Jackson's "All Nite (Don't Stop) (So So Def Remix)" Tags: dance show performance hip hop jazz sierra college clubs janet jackson |

Houston Rockets Playoffs Highlights - Game 5 Jazz 4/29/2008 Houston Rockets playoff highlights of Game 5 against the Utah Jazz on April 29, 2008 in Houston, TX -- done in the style to the great videos put together by Rockets2K of ClutchFans.net AP RECAP: The Houston Rockets didn't need a big fourth quarter from Tracy McGrady to stay alive in their playoff series with Utah. McGrady scored 29 points and got plenty of help, and the Rockets staved off elimination Tuesday night by routing the Jazz 95-69 in Game 5 of their first-round series. Luis Scola added 18 points and 12 rebounds, Rafer Alston scored 14 points and Dikembe Mutombo grabbed 10 rebounds as the Rockets cut their series deficit to 3-2 and forced Game 6 in Utah on Friday night. Now, the Jazz can end the series at home, where they went 37-4 during the regular season. But it's no guarantee -- Houston was the first team to beat Utah in Salt Lake City during the regular season and won Game 3 there last Thursday. "We're in a great situation," McGrady said. "We know we can win in Utah because we've done it before." The Rockets stayed alive by doing everything that they hadn't done for most of the series. They shot well, hit their free throws and got valuable production off the bench. Houston came into the game with the lowest scoring average of any playoff team (85.5) and was shooting only 39.9 percent from the field and 65.7 percent from the free-throw line in the series. In Game 5, the Rockets shot 47 percent (37-of-79), went 15-of-19 from the line and outscored Utah's bench 26-9. "Our guys were really ready to play," said Houston coach Rick Adelman. "We used all they had, the way they approached the game was exactly what we had to have. It's the same thing they're going to have to have going back to Utah." Allen Iverson 28pts Kleiza 41pts vs Boozer Jazz NBA 07/08 For one night, Linas Kleiza overshadowed Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony. Kleiza scored a career-high 41 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Denver Nuggets beat the Utah Jazz 120-109 on Thursday night. "I've now scored 40 points on the highest stage you can ever score," said Kleiza, whose previous career-high of 29 came March 15 against the Los Angeles Lakers. "It was definitely a special night," Kleiza said. "I will remember this night for the rest of my life." The Nuggets have been searching for a consistent third scorer behind Anthony and Iverson, and Kleiza filled the role Thursday. He got going early, leaking out on the fast break and getting easy layups. He then moved to the outside, going 4-for-8 from 3-point range. "He got a couple of easy ones, and once you get a couple of layups, the basket looks bigger," said Iverson, who had 28 points. "He played a great game, and hopefully he can continue to play that way." Kleiza scored 27 points in the first half, 20 in the second quarter when Denver took a 61-59 lead at the break. "I knew after the first half when I had 27 it was going to be a special night," Kleiza said. Kleiza had 39 points when he stepped to the line with 3:44 left. The home crowd gave him a big ovation as he sank both free throws for Denver's final points of the game. Kleiza wasn't the only one racking up special numbers against the Jazz. Marcus Camby tied his career high in rebounds (24) and blocks (11) to help the Nuggets end a two-game losing streak. "Camby had a terrific game," Utah head coach Jerry Sloan said. "He ran at the basketball and blocked shots and really had us guessing what was happening out on the floor." Despite big nights from Kleiza and Camby, the Jazz trailed by just two after a pair of free throws by Mehmet Okur midway through the third quarter. But the Nuggets kept pushing the ball, and Anthony scored eight of his 23 points in the final three minutes of the period as Denver grabbed a 98-88 lead heading into the fourth. The Nuggets kept up the pace, going on a 10-3 run in the first 3:09 of the final quarter to take a 108-91 lead. The Jazz never got closer than 11 the rest of the way, and Denver led by as many as 21. It was a different Denver team than the one that lost two straight earlier this week. "I didn't think our guys were hungry enough on the two games on the road, and they were subservient to A.I. and Melo," Nuggets head coach George Karl said. "Tonight, there was more of play basketball and go." No one epitomized that more than Kleiza. Before the game, Anthony Carter encouraged him to run the floor, and the point guard rewarded him by feeding him the ball. "He got most of it leaking out," said guard Deron Williams, who led the Jazz with 23 points. "They got the rebound and he was running. When the shot was missed he was gone." Gone, too, is Utah's four-game winning streak that helped them creep back into the Northwest Division race. With the Western Conference extremely competitive this year, the Nuggets and Jazz know that winning their division might be the only way to secure a playoff spot, which made Thursday's game a little more important. "These are the games you have to win," Williams said. "You have to win in your division." Game notes Karl is hoping to see Nuggets F Nene on Friday. Nene had a tumor removed from his right testicle Monday and tests are being conducted to determine if it is benign. ... Jazz G Ronnie Price was activated after missing four games with a sprained left ankle. ... Nuggets F Kenyon Martin missed his second straight game. After Monday's loss in Charlotte, Martin had a minor medical procedure to treat a staph infection. Karl said Martin might play Saturday against Minnesota. ... Camby has eight 20-rebound games this season. Tags: allen iverson kobe bryant lebron james wade o'neal jordan kidd pierce carter anthony marbury mcgrady nba mix ad |

Chip Jackson from the DVD "Elvin Jones: Jazz Machine" Please enjoy this performance by bassist Chip Jackson from the spectacular DVD "Elvin Jones: Jazz Machine." The historic live concert DVD features Elvin Jones playing with the thunderous power that influenced generations of players to come out smokin' and go from there. Veterans Sonny Fortune and Chip Jackson brilliantly orchestrate the power of Jones' drums, while young confrere saxophonist Ravi Coltrane and pianist Willie Pickins showcase their skills while helping accentuate their mentor's bold, free flowing style that helped move his instrument from the back of the club to the forefront of music. "...a powerful demonstration of modern jazz by one of music's masters" - Chuck Berg, Jazz Times It would be impossible to overstate the importance of master drummer Elvin Jones in the evolution of current and mainstream Jazz. Elvin followed older brothers Hank and Thad onto the Detroit jazz scene, where all forged eminent careers. By the mid 1960s he was a member of John Coltrane's groundbreaking quartet, playing on massively influential recordings such as A Love Supreme and Coltrane 'Live' at the Village Vanguard. Touted by life magazine as "the world's greatest rhythmic drummer," and described by percussion icon Louie Bellson as "Mother Earth coming alive with syncopation," Elvin Jones' influence reverberated throughout not only the Jazz community, but all of music, influencing famous drummers such as Ginger Baker of Cream and Mitch Mitchell of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Selections on the DVD include "Is There A Jackson In The House?," "Ray El," and "Doll Of The Bride."
