The Darkest Winter "The Darkest Winter" By Sonata NocturnA Sonata Nocturna is a Spanish band playing dark, romantic, orchestral, classical/neo-classical, gothic metal, with the emphasis on.. well I can't pick anything out, the emphasis is on all those things. It has a rather elaborate, dense structure and a real theatrical flair. At times it sounds quite cinematic, as with the beginning of the second song Hatefull. Beautiful piano passages abound, and the orchestral elements have a huge, grandiose sound. There is no shortage of heavy guitar riffage or power drumming either. There are parts of this that are not too far from what country-mates Ebony Ark do, especially with some progressive-tending tempo changes, although overall its much closer to classical music and gothic in the more traditional sense of the term. Everything comes together to create some really beautiful and haunting melodies which evoke a deep emotional response. Audiosurf - サンダーフォース V - LEGENDARY WINGS (Orch. Ver.) Yes, yes. As if the orchestral Buttsutekkai wasn't enough to cause stg fans an overload of grandiosity, here it comes Legendary Wings, Thunderforce V Stage 1 theme, the almighty orchestral version by Aojiru (青汁), alias, "Mukyou.jp", aka "白と黒の夢郷", that super japanese site with the orchestral goodness. The guy also made several solo piano pieces for TAMusic's SPIRIT album (the pianoforte nocturnes ones) Can't get enough music/arrangements from this guy, he rocks! Seriously, this track alone puts to shame the Thunderforce Renaissance album. Oh, since the song doesn't seem to be suited for Audiosurf at all (few blocks and probably a lack of synchrony), I enabled Ironmode for increased speed and the sharp turns. It made the whole thing better. Still Mono Pro, but is probably the best to showcase this type of songs. By the way, this is freely available for download at the arranger/composer's site so grab it while it's there as he tends to take out some of the songs now and then. Anyway, he plain rocks. As if I have to say it again... Tags: audiosurf 白と黒の夢郷 青汁 thunderforce サンダーフォース legendary wings stage doujin orchestra orchestral shooter stg music pc |

O.M.D. - So In Love (HQ AV) 1985's biggest-hit "So In Love" by OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. Review.- Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (often abbreviated to OMD) are a synth pop group whose founder members are originally from the Wirral Peninsula, UK. OMD record for Virgin Records (originally for Virgin's DinDisc subsidiary). Formed 1978 in Liverpool, England, and led by Paul Humphreys and Andy McCluskey, Orchestral Manoeuvres(often abbreviated to OMD) are a synth pop group whose founder members are originally from the Wirral Peninsula, UK. OMD record for Virgin Records (originally for Virgin's DinDisc subsidiary). As teenagers, Humphreys and McCluskey were involved in several unsigned Wirral Peninsula bands, including Equinox, Pegasus, and the short-lived Hitlerz Underpantz. McCluskey would usually sing and play bass guitar, whilst electronics enthusiast Humphreys initially began as a roadie, graduating to keyboards. The pair shared a love of electronic music, particularly Brian Eno and Kraftwerk. The debut performance of Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark was in October 1978 at Eric's Club in Liverpool. The group released its first single, "Electricity," on Factory Records; the record led to a contract with the Virgin subsidiary DinDisc. Using their record advance, McCluskey and Humphreys built a studio, which allowed them to replace their four-track, and recorded with drummer Malcolm Holmes (formerly of the Id) and Dave Hughes (formerly of Dalek I Love You). In 1980, the group released its self-titled debut album. Organisation appeared the same year, which featured the U.K. Top Ten single "Enola Gay"; Hughes was replaced by Martin Cooper after its release. The band's next few albums -- Architecture and Morality (1981), Dazzle Ships (1983), and Junk Culture (1984) -- found the band experimenting with its sound, resulting in several U.K. hit singles. Recorded with two new members, Graham and Neil Weir, "Crush", their most pop-oriented album, found more success in America than in Britain as the single "So in Love" hit number 26 on the US charts and number 27 on UK charts. After that one hit, coming soon "Secret" reached number 63 on US charts and Number 34 on UK charts. "If You Leave," taken from the "Pretty in Pink" soundtrack, was their biggest American hit, climbing to number four in 1986 at US Hot 100. they (Paul and Andy) formed the core of the outfit until 1989, when the group split. McCluskey then retained the name and continued to record and tour as OMD with a new line-up. In late December 2005, OMD's official website announced a 2006 reformation, for both live performances and a new album, with rehearsals beginning in summer 2006. The tour began in 2007, featuring the classic line up of McCluskey, Humphreys, Holmes and Cooper. Tags: 80's OMD Orchestral Manoeuvres in The Dark So In Love Crush 1985 UK Duo synth pop music video |

Handel - "Water Music" Suite in F Major HWV348 (4) GEORGE FRIDERIC HANDEL (1685-1759) Orchestral suite for flute, two oboes, bassoon, two horns, two trumpets, strings and basso continuo in F major HWV348 "Water Music" [7.] Bouree [8.] Hornpipe [9.] [Andante] *The Water Music is a collection of orchestral movements, often considered as three suites, composed by George Frideric Handel. It premiered in the summer of 1717 (July 17, 1717) when King George I requested a concert on the River Thames. The concert was performed by 50 musicians playing on a barge close to the royal barge from which the King listened with some close friends (including the Duchess of of Bolton, the Duchess of Newcastle, the Countess of Godolphin, Madam Kilmarnock, and the Earl of Orkney). George I was said to have loved it so much that he ordered the exhausted musicians to play the suites three times on the trip. The music in each of the suites has no set order today. When the suite was played for the King, slow, often soft music was played when the King's boat and the orchestra's boat were close together, while louder, brisk passages were played when the boats drifted apart. This performance follows Samuel Arnold's first edition of the complete score in 1788 and the manuscript copies dating from Handel's lifetime. Therefore, the Suite in D and the Suite in G are mixed together. The music of Humperdinck - Overture Classical music for your day. Another orchestral work, here's the overture to Humperdinck's opera, 'Hansel and Gretel'. This is what Wikipedia says about the composer and his work: "While in Berlin, Humperdinck began work on Hänsel und Gretel after his sister asked him to compose music for a play for her children in 1890. He first started to compose Hänsel und Gretel, based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, as a Singspiel consisting of a play with 16 songs and piano accompaniment. A few months later, he presented his fiancée Hedwig Taxer with Hänsel und Gretel as an engagement present. Quickly realizing the work's potential, Humperdinck instead decided to create a full-scale opera, and in January 1891 he began working on a complete orchestration." "His chief reputation rests on his opera Hänsel und Gretel, which was produced at Weimar, 1893." Gary Karr - Koussevitsky Con. - 1st Mvt. Doublebass virtuoso Gary Karr has revolutionized the art of an instrument described as "the bullfrog of the orchestral lily pond." His playing combines the bravura technique with impassioned lyrical interpretations to create a uniquely sensuous sound. Praised by TIME magazine as "the world's leading solo bassist," he has popularized and revealed the virtuosity of the doublebass, expanded its repertoiire, and set new standards of performance. Since his deput in 1961 he has enjoyed a career as a recitalist and soloist with orchestras throughout the world, including the Berlin Symphony, BBC Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Osaka Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, and Toronto Symphony. This performance was with the Valley Symphony Orchestra in Edinburg, Texas, under the direction of Carl Seale on March 10, 1987. Johann Strauss: Lagunen-Walzer op.411 Lagunen-Walzer (Lagoon-Waltz) op. 411 is a waltz by Johann Strauss II written in 1883. The waltz melodies are drawn from his operetta Eine Nacht in Venedig (A Night in Venice) which was a fiasco when first premiered in Berlin on 3 October 1883. The waltz's primary melody was from the Act 3 song by the character Duke of Urbino. The Berlin production incorporated many outrageously silly lyrics during this waltz song where the singer has to sing the embarrassing 'Nacht sind die Katzen ja grau, nachts tönt es zärtlich Miau!' (At night, the cats are grey, at night "meow" they tenderly say!' Without further ado, for the hurried Vienna premiere, the tempo was reduced and the words were replaced with the more agreeable 'Ach, wie so herrlich zu schaun, sind all' die liebchen Frau'n!' (Oh, how splendid to see, all of these lovely ladies!). Eduard Strauss first performed the orchestral work on 4 November 1883 in the Golden Hall (Göldener-Saal) of the Vienna Musikverein, site of the modern day Neujahrskonzert.
