St. Louis Cardinals 2000: Who Let The Cards Out by Baha Men Hey everybody. So a few notes for the video: *This was a recurring theme in the year 2000, for MLB teams to use Baha Men's "Who Let the Dogs Out" as a playoff song. This was the Cards' version, which sounds better than "Who Let the Yankees Out" and other variants heard throughout stadiums nation wide. I was lucky enough to obtain the MP3 back then right after the World Series, and figured fellow Cards fans (or baseball fans in general) would get a kick out of it. This is a parody of the Baha Men, so I should note it was never sold, only played at the stadiums, thus this is not a case of copyright infrigement. =) *I tried my best to collect as many photos (NONE of which are mine nor do I claim to be mine) of as many players as possible from the 2000 team. Included, among others, are Mark McGwire, Rick Ankiel, Darryl Kile (R.I.P.), Fernando Vina, Mike Matheny, Eliu Marrero, Placido Polanco, Fernando Tatis, Ray Lankford, the legendary Jim Edmonds, Craig Paquette, Garrett Stephenson, Pat Hentgen, Dave Veres, Andy Benes, Edgar Renteria, J.D. Drew, Eduardo Perez, Eric Davis, Tony La Russa, Shawon Dunston, and Mr. Cardinal Baseball himself, the belated Mr. Jack Buck. See anybody in there? You must be a Cards fan. *This is my very first movie made that has not been in my lo-fi style of shooting on my Sony Cybershot, so please keep this in mind. I like how it turned out, personally. *This is partly in celebration of 400 subscribers! I wanted to do something different that all 400 of you would hate, and I found it! Yay! Thanks guys and gals, you're all awesome. This is a weird, I'll-only-do-it-once sorta video, so don't get all weary on me. I'll go back to screaming like a retard while playing video games soon enough. So let's go Cardinals in 2008, everybody. And good luck to your team, too, if you're not a Cards fan... unless you're a Cubs fan, in which Cards, Astros, Brew Crew, Reds, and ChiSox fans will all gang up on you and smack you until you choose a better team to root for. Cardinals Feeding young Three different cardinals feeding their juvenile young after the juveniles have learned to fly. I read a recent article in the paper that said that meerkats were one of the few animals that actually train their young. Add Cardinals to that list. In a video I did on cardinals feeding their young, I comment on how it appears that the birds are teaching their young.. First they take them to places where there is food and they feed them, showing them where the food comes from. To strengthen their wings and flying skills, the parent birds will fly to a spot somewhat out of reach and force the juvenile to come to it. Sometimes they find this doesn't work, and they fly to the young bird and feed it again. But they are persistent. The next time they may fly to a place on the ground and wait for the juvenile to fly down to the parent for its reward. They may feed it several times in this new location before they move again, to a limb in a nearby tree. Again the juvenile must fly to the parent now up to the limb to get its reward. Although they do spend extra time in our area because of the plentiful and easy food supply, we have observed them flying to the next yard where there are no feeders and going through similar processes with more naturally provided foodstuff. After several days of these kinds of trips, the parent will bring the juvenile to the feeding area, drop to the ground in a seed rich area, and show the juvenile there is food on the ground. It goes about eating, but it will not provide any to the juvenile. Eventually the juvenile figures out that it must pick up the seeds off the ground itself if it is going to get anything to eat. During the feeding processes, the juvenile continues with a trick learned in the nest. It flutters its wings and chirps irritatingly to get the parent to feed it. It takes a while to give up this habit in relationship to eating. I have seen juveniles eating out of a dish on their own, but when the parent came by they suddenly acted helpless, fluttering their wings and chirping. This trick rarely works as the adult already knows the juvenile is capable of eating on its on. There is some association which juveniles have with fluttering and eating. I observed at least one bird come upon a pile of seed on the ground. When it saw it, it started fluttering its wings as it approached and ate some. From my observations, it appears to me that the cardinals have several lesson plans: 1 Where are areas in the neighborhood that you can find food. 2. What should you do before going directly to the food (land on a nearby tree or fence and make sure the area is clear) 3. You can find food in many places: on the fence, on the ground, at a feeder, and elsewhere. 4. Physical Education: Okay now, fly to me. I have a treat for you. 5. Now you are an adult: I'll fly here with you, but I'm not feeding you. 6. You are almost on your own: you fly about, find food, and I'll watch out for you. 7. You are on your own. This is not unique to cardinals. We have seen sparrows do the same thing. The old expression about kicking them out of the nest may be true, but when the parents do that, they aren't finished with their young. Tags: bird cardinal feeding young juvenile cute precious |

Rittman band From the Pressbox-18th Indian Band Revue On October 18, 2008, eight bands met at Rittman Stadium to entertain fans, friends, and family, and exhibiting the fruits of many hours of preparation. On this cold night, we were treated to an awesome performance, by all participants of the 18th annual Rittman Indian Band Revue. At 7:00pm, the audience was welcomed by Jon Ritchie, superintendent of the Rittman and Orrville School Districts. The Rittman Indians Marching Band kicked off the show with the playing of the national anthem. Once our hosts marched off the field, it was time to be entertained by the guest bands. Mogadore was the first guest band to take the field. The Marching Wildcats, although small in number, were big on sound. It was their sixteenth time playing at our show. Making an encore appearance, from Akron, was the Kenmore High School Fighting Cardinal Marching Band. For their second appearance in Rittman they entertained the cold audience with an eighties show. The Manchester Marching Band was next with a show from the seventies, eighties, and nineties. Cliff Note: When they completed their program, I accidentally called them the "cougars." After a short intermission, where the audience enjoyed concessions served by our very own Worlds Greatest Band Boosters(tm), it was time to continue the evening of entertainment. The second part of the program was kicked off by the appearance of the East Canton High School Hornet Marching Band. Their fantastic show featured hits from the Blues Brothers. Crestview was next. The Marching Cougars took us down the yellow brick road with tunes from the Wizard of Oz. From Portage County, the Rootstown Rovers Marching band ended the second part of the show. Their hits included Blitzkreig Bop. The third part of the night's festivities were commenced by the always entertaining performance of the Garfield High School Marching Rams, coming from Akron. Their announcer, all around good guy Dan Camburn, started their awesome program with a hearty "Welcome to the shoooowwww!" Once the Rams were done, Dan thanked Ed Sims, the director of the ROOTSTOWN Marching band, thewn corrected himself and said Rittman. Next band to make the long journey to participate in the show was the Orrville Band of Style, our partners in the Rittman Orrville Compact. The band put on a great show, and the student musicians of Orrville was supportive of all the other guest bands. Cliff Note: I have observed at most band shows that the bands pretty much support one another, more proof that band is not a sport. Closing the show this evening was my favorite, to thunderous applause, the Rittman Indians Marching Band. The extended show tonight featured "Prime Time," "You Can't Stop the Beat"(Majorette Feature). "Sweet Child O' Mine," came next then our percussion section showed their massive talent with "Ode to a Refuse Container." The marching routine written by senior student musician Caleb Conley was performed with the playing of "Soul Bossa Nova." The show came to an end to the tune of the Steppenwolf classic, "Born to be Wild." A prolonged standing ovation from a great crowd who endured falling temperatures all night. This wasn't a competition, but all the bands were winners Saturday night. All bands received awards for their performance. Of course awards should also be handed out to others. To Ed Sims, Rittman band director, for his year round dedication to the instrumental music program which made this program possible. Becky Cline, majorette advisor, showing patience year in and year out working with the majorettes. Brett Lanz, Rittman high school principal, for his leadership and making sure all things were running smoothly. Jon Ritchie, Rittman superintendant has shown that he will be a friend to the fine arts programs at Rittman. The World's Greatest Band Boosters(tm) worked tirelessly, as they have done for years, to ensure the band(and announcer) were well taken care of. Most important were the families of all the studenty musicians. Obviously the parents have all done something right with the rearing of their sons and daughters, as they all are well mannered and disciplined. Tags: Rittman band |

The Assassination of Ninoy Aquino On August 21, 1983, while on his way to Manila, Aquino was accompanied by several foreign journalists to ensure his safety or, at the very least, to record events for posterity in case rumors of a planned assassination proved to be true on China Airlines Flight 811. Despite a convoy of security guards (all assigned to him by the Marcos government) and a contingent of 2,000 military and police personnel on the tarmac, Aquino was fatally shot in the head as he was escorted off the airplane. Government investigators claimed that he was gunned down by Rolando Galman, who was immediately shot dead by the aviation security. No one actually identified who pulled the trigger, but Rebecca Quijano, another passenger, testified that she saw a man behind Aquino (on the stairs) point a gun at the back of his head, then there was the sound of a gunshot. A post-mortem analysis disclosed that Aquino was shot in the back of the head at close range with the bullet exiting at the chin at an angle which supported Quijano's testimony. Even more suspicions were aroused when Quijano described the assassin as wearing a military uniform. The government claimed that Aquino was killed by a Communist hitman. However, politicians and diplomats found evident contradictions between the claim and the photos and the videotape footage that documented the time before and after the shooting. The footage had circulated throughout the Philippines at that time. Aquino's funeral procession on August 31 lasted from 9 a.m.--with a funeral mass officiated by the Catholic archbishop of Manila, Jaime Cardinal Sin, and held at Santo Domingo Church--to 9 p.m., when his body was interred at the Manila Memorial Park. Two million people lined the streets during the procession which was aired by the Church-sponsored Radio Veritas, the only station that covered the procession. The procession reached Rizal Park, where the Philippine flag was brought to half-staff. The Cardinals - Shouldn't I Know (78) Shouldn't I Know written by Meredith Brothers and Sam Azrael performed by The Cardinals recorded in March 1951 issued in May 1951 as Atlantic 938 The Cardinals, as heard here, are Ernie Warren (lead), Meredith Brothers (1st tenor), Sam Adelotte (2nd tenor), Donald Johnson (baritone), and Leon Hardy (bass). This was their first single. Twelve would be issued on Atlantic before the group disbanded for the first time. In late 1958, Ernie would reform the group and hired a white back-up band, The Four Frantics, to perform with them on the road. By 1960, the Cadinals disbanned for the last time. As for the Four Frantics, they returned home to Louisville and became the Tren-dells! But, that is for another video. . . Tags: The Cardinals Shouldn't Know Atlantic 78 RPM Doo Wop |
