Irena Sendler, a hero for two centuries The Nazis invade Poland and proceed to round up the Jews and segregate them to live in a section of they city of Warsaw. The city was cordoned off and the Nazis created a Jewish ghetto in Warsaw. The inhabitants were left to die, become drones for slave labor, or shipped off the concentration camps to meet their faith in the gas champers, cyclone B, the ovens, and the horrors of the Holocaust. Amidst this horror when darkness fell upon Europe there emerged an angle a servant of God to save the children. Irena endler (Irena Sendlerowa) a member of the Warsaw medical services managed to gain escape to 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw ghetto. These children survived the war while the vast majority of their parents were never located. 2,500 lived because of Irena Sendler. The wild kick, Myanmar Lethwei Myanmar Lethwei(kickboxing). Kickboxing - a form of Myanmar martial arts - has been preserved over the centuries land still remai Myanmar Lethwei(kickboxing). Kickboxing - a form of Myanmar martial arts - has been preserved over the centuries land still remains a favourite traditional game of the people. Although somewhat similar to Thai, French, American and other types of kickboxing, it has maintained a more traditional down-to-earth directness. Myanmar kickboxing is closer to street fighting than the Queensberry rules of professional Western boxing and makes no pretenses of being anything else. Though Myanmar kickboxing has its own set of rules, fundamentally the target is any part of the opponent's head or body, and the weapon is any part of the body especially the head, fists, knees and elbows. The result is a fight not for the squeamish. The best blows include high kicks to the neck, elbows jabbed into the face and head, knees thrust into the ribs, and low kicks to the calves. It is an art in the truest sense of the word in that skill, technique and other attributes come into play. While mere punching with the fists may seem tame, it certainly is not when there are no gloves and hands are only wrapped in strips of cloth. However, to protect the boxers from accidents, there are rules against scratching, biting, hair pulling and hitting or kicking an opponent in the groin. A boxer who is down may not be kicked or hit in any way. Rules & Regulations Anything goes in the ring. All surfaces of the body are considered fair targets and any part of the body except the head may be used to strike an opponent. Common blows include high kicks to the neck, elbow thrusts to the face and head, knee hooks to the ribs and low crescent kicks to the calf. A contestant may even grasp an opponent's head between his hands and pull it down to meet an upward knee thrust. Punching is considered the weakest of all blows and kicking merely a way to 'soften up' one's opponent; knee and elbow strikes are decisive in most matches. The structure and limitations of each match varies with its context and with the calibre of the participants. Unlike Thai boxing, which has borrowed a great deal from the Queensbury rules in international or Western boxing, Myanmar boxing represents a more traditional form once shared by the two countries. Rules tend to follow situational norms; fighters, managers and judges get together before each match and work out time limits and scoring criteria. In the simplest rural matches, fought in a dirt circle, there's no time limit and a fighter loses once he has wiped blood from his face or body three times. In more organised amateur matches, boxers fight in square rings (5.8 by 5.5 metres), for three to five rounds of three minutes each, usually with two minutes rest between. Professional matches in larger towns and cities begin with five rounds but may increase round by round to 12 rounds when the scoring is tight - even longer if no clear winner emerges earlier in. Incorrupt Bodies of the Saints part 5 Incorruptibles - These type of preserved bodies started being discovered back in the early centuries after Christ, though surprisingly, they do not fall into either the accidental or deliberate preservation categories. The causes for "incorruptibles" remaining free of decomposition have baffled scientists to this day. These bodies are discovered in many different environments, including environments that would typically cause an accidental or deliberately preserved corpse to decompose rapidly. They remain free of decay regardless of manner of burial, delay in burial, temperature, moisture, rough handling, frequent transference, having been covered in quicklime (a decaying agent), or proximity to other decaying corpses. They cannot be explained by science or reason. Some common characteristics of an incorrupt body: Incorruptibles are typically found lifelike, moist, flexible, and contain a sweet scent that many say smells like roses or other flowers, for years after death. Incorruptibles are almost never embalmed or treated in any way due to the religious order's beliefs that the person came from. Incorruptibles remain free of decay, some for centuries, despite circumstances which normally cause decay such as being exposed to air, moisture, other decaying bodies, or other variables such as quicklime, which is typically applied to a corpse to accelerate decomposition. Incorruptibles many times contain clear, flowing oils, perspiration, and flowing blood for years after death, where accidental or deliberately preserved bodies have never been recorded to have such characteristics. Other partial incorruptibles have been found throughout the centuries where certain parts of the body decay normally, while other parts such as the heart or tongue remain perfectly free of decomposition. What is most astounding of all is the fact that for each incorrupt body discovered, after research has been done to determine who the person was, it has always been determined that the person was an extremely devout Catholic. This inevitably leads to the question, How can the process of decay, which has no intelligence, choose which bodies to devour and not to devour, and why do they happen to be devout Catholics? This phenomena is simply miraculous. In addition, many unexplainable miracles have occurred throughout history when people have come in contact with these incorrupt remains, and despite regular medical examinations, scientists have not determined why. These incorrupt bodies are on display all over the world to this day (mainly in Europe), and nearly all bodies who have been identified and whose background has been researched thoroughly, have been canonized by the Catholic Church as Saints due to their publicly devout Catholic life. Food Fight An abridged history of American-centric warfare, from WWII to present day, told through the foods of the countries in conflict. For a breakdown of the actual battles portrayed in the film, visit: http://www.touristpictures.com/foodfight/index.htm For the official cheat sheet (breakdown of the foodstuffs), visit: http://www.touristpictures.com/foodfight/cheat.htm Now, to answer some FAQs... - The food in this film was consumed either by myself or my dog after shooting. None of the cast went to waste. - The software used was photoshop and after effects. - The film took me 3 months to do. - Although it seems like stop motion, most of it was stop motion created within After effects, using keyframe animation. I am basically moving the food around within the the program, frame by frame, which is the same as traditional stop motion, only it's digital. Giant Squid March 2006 For centuries, sailors have told tales of sea monsters with massive tentacles. But it was only recently that a giant squid was actually filmed. One man has spent his life tracking the elusive creatures. When his large, powerful yacht slowed to a virtual stop, Olivier de Kersauson knew he had a problem. "I saw two arms, twice the size of my arm, grabbing the rudder." A giant squid had got caught in the propeller. "It had a lot of power and started to shake the boat." It was a sight Dr Steve O'Shea would love to have witnessed. For over 30 years he's been chasing the rare creatures. But recently, he's become aware of a disturbing trend. "Squids are incredibly good barometers of environmental health", he explains. "If I go back 10 years, I had 23 giant squids in one year. Now, because of the intensity of fishing, it's tailed down to one a year." Tags: Olivier de Kersauson giant squid sea monster |
