Anime Detour 2008 FRIDAY WOO!! Went up to Bloomington Minnesota and went to Anime Detour, which wasn't as grand as I'd thought it would be, but the mall of america made it totally worth it. Not too many pics but some hilariousness. Rath, the driver, ended up going to a random toll because there was an exit and it was funny. I call her out on it so you can tell when it happened, around 8 am i think. anyway, enjoy and let me know if you see yourself! Marty Robbins Singing Detour This was a hit for 4 artists way back in 1946 including Foy Willing, Elton Britt, Spade Cooley and Wesley Tuttle and has been recorded by many country singers since. A lively, happy-go-lucky version by Marty somewhat belying his 'Mr Teardrop' sobriquet! Tags: Country |

Billie Holiday - Detour Ahead (78) Detour Ahead written by Johnny Frigo, Herb Ellis and Lou Carter performed by Billie Holiday (Lady Day) with Tiny Grimes' Sextet recorded 29 April 1951 issued as Aladdin 3094, in May 1951 The sextet includes Tiny Grimes (tenor guitar), Heywood Henry (baritone sax) and Bobby Tucker (piano). Written by the "Soft Winds" jazz trio of violinist Johnny Frigo, guitarist Herb Ellis and pianist Lou Carter, "Detour Ahead" is one of Holiday's overlooked masterpieces, in part because it is a weird footnote in her career. It was one of four tracks she recorded for Eddie and Leo Mesner's Aladdin label (which mainly issued R&B records), with backing by Tiny Grimes' Sextet, which were rarely anthologized. Holiday's singing on "Detour" is nonpareil, as she takes the at-times goofy driving metaphors of the lyric and infuses them with slow grace, melancholy and experience. "The further you travel, the harder to unravel," she sings, with the sound of someone already deeply snared in the web. Tags: Billie Holiday Tiny Grimes Detour Ahead 78 RPM Aladdin |
