Wurlitzer SideMan - 1950s Tube Drum Machine The Wurlitzer SideMan was arguably the world's first drum machine. It depends on whether you count the Chamberlin Rhythmate, which was introduced some years earlier, but featured tape loops instead of electronically generated drum sounds. (Please see my other videos for a demo of the Rhythmate.) In any event, the SideMan is definitely the first "beat box." I just picked this one up for $50. Valley Forge (Highlights) -1950s Roy Kellino (the director of Charade) directed this episode of what we here at ThinkStream guess must have been the Herald Playhouse television series (using what looks like an HP at the end upon which to base our decision). This hysterical -- er -- historical dramatization features serious over-the-top writing by Robert Hardy Andrews (writer of the worst Boris Karloff tv episodes in the sixties, Tarzan Goes to India, and I Married a Communist, among others), and stars Onslow Stevens (Brig. Gen. Robert O'Brien in the sci-fi classic Them!, Dr. Edelman in House of Dracula, and of Mark of the Gorilla, and Who Killed Aunt Maggie fame) as George Washington! This film was simply begging to be chopped up and rearranged, so we stepped in to do a little redecorating. Well, actually, we removed a few walls and patched the foundation in the process. This final, much-condensed version of the original film highlights Andrews' ridiculously flagrant writing, and Stevens' near drunken performance of George Washington! This film is a must-see! Note: The following clip was taken directly from the original 16mm print and has been edited to under half the film's original length, with lots of re-arranging for the heck of it (because that's what we like to do here at ThinkStream Films when we get board!) The Morocco national football team, nicknamed Lions de l'Atlas (Atlas Lions), is the national team of Morocco and is controlled by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football. They were the first African team to qualify directly to the World Cup finals, as they did in 1970. They were the first African team to win a group at the World Cup, which they did in 1986, finishing ahead of Portugal, Poland, and England. They were also the first African team to make it to second round barely losing to eventual runner-ups West Germany 1-0 in 1986. They also came within two minutes of moving out of the group stage of the the 1998 World Cup, Kjetil Rekdal's late winning goal for Norway against Brazil eliminating them. MCRD Parris Island 1950s http://www.militaryvideo.com/store/store.cfm This video documents boot camp at Parris Island in the 1950s. The video is divided into three parts. Part I was produced by the Marine Corps. It is in black & white and narrated. It documents the boot camp experience with scenes of recruits getting haircuts, on the drill field, the rifle range, confidence course, using pugil sticks and even the infamous "bucket drill." The second part of this video is in color and contains the "out-takes" (scenes not used in the original production) of the first film. There is no narration in this part (a music soundtrack) but the scenes taken in 1957 and 1958 offer additional perspectives on the training recruits received.
