MSX - Nemesis III (1988) - Stage 3: Frontier And here is where this game starts to get really hard, perhaps even too hard. Back in the days, for a very long time I was unable to advance beyond this point, rendering the rest of the game unreachable. Of course, I suck at shmups, but I dare everyone to try out this part of the game. Ignore the "white hole", you will learn soon enough what it is if you are unlucky. Next is a hail of rocks (they look like coconuts) while something that looks like a mirror tries to break your concentration with flashes of light. What follows is a landscape covered in a gravity field that is trying to pull you to the surface and crash you. This is the main bottleneck in the game for me... If you are having the same difficulties as I did (countless attempts...), try this strategy: 1. make sure you load up on energy capsules in the start of this stage so you will have the Force Field selected. I am assuming you already have one, but if not, activate it. Right before you venture into the planet, try to get a fresh Force Field on your ship by running into falling rocks. 2. Now, line up your Multiples so they will fire straight into the approaching area and kill any gun emplacements that appear. If you stick to the left of the screen your Photon Missiles will take out most of what is below you without much danger of getting hit yourself. 3. Once you enter the planet's gravity field, choose whether you will stick to the bottom or top; I like to stay bottom. Move in opposite direction of the gravity field's pull in short bursts. You can time the bursts to the sound that the field makes. I quickly spin out of control if I move sideways here, so with this fresh Force Field equipped I just sit it out. Past this point you will get assaulted by red and purple crafts. Don't let the purple ones near you or they will attach themselves to your ship and refuse you to fire your weapons. In one of the "black holes" at the end is a weapon upgrade (the hole that is not spinning). I cheated a bit (this stage is already hard enough of itself) so the hidden upgrades are shown: press F1 key to pause, type FIND, continue with F1 key again. Activate as many Speedups as you deem necessary because the black holes are going to pull you in. Speed is the only way to stay out. If you get sucked in, you get warped back to the start of this stage... to do it all over again...
