Another must stop location on the backpacker migration up north. Had a ball in Airlie, went out on a boat yesterday to snorkel the reef. The colours of the coral and the diversity of the fish life just blew me away. Thanks to Jetstream for the trip. Also checked out the Barefoot Bushmans Wildlife Park where you can see a variety of Aussie wildlife including a great crocodile show. Tomorrow I go out on a 54 foot Classic Schooner, the Atlanta , for a morning cruise before heading off to Magnetic Island. It's a hard life..... In Airlie I decided that given it is such a big location for back packers, instead of interviewing an Aussie local, I would interview a back packer working at Airlie. Martin Backpacker with Schatten Dualie pickup This is me playing around with my Martin Backpacker guitar and a Schatten Dualie Inside'R acoustic soundboard pickup. I was pretty impressed with it, so I thought I'd share the results. This pickup is designed for a flat-top instrument with a small to medium size soundboard, but this guy also makes pickups for archtop guitar, dobro, banjo, mandolin, violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, harp, autoharp, Appalachian dulcimer, and hammered dulcimer. Whether you play steel string or the classical nylon string guitar, or even if you play bouzouki, charango, oud, sitar, lute, prima, or just about any other instrument with a wood soundboard, there's a pickup that will work for you if you check out his site. Oh yeah, this was also just a way for me to get a little more experience with iMovie on my Mac mini. The music was actually recorded about a month ago on my Tascam 4 track cassette recorder and then saved to CD with my Sony RCD-W500C CD Recorder.
