They're Red Hot FC - Rock Band 2 Expert Drums EDIT: Heh. Word from the developers is that I freaked out everyone at Harmonix with the speed of this FC. I must be doing something right. =) Well, after failing on my sightread (I feel for you, Lee), I decided to take this song into practice mode... and this is what happened... 1st document FC and current 1st place score. =) someguy913 at rockband.scorehero.com and www.rockband.com someguy913ps on Xbox Live My Accomplishments: http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=977 My Live Stream Feed: http://www.someguy913.com Info on my Drum Setup: http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5894 FAQ 1. Do you play real drums too? Yes, I do. I've been playing drums for a little over 4 years now, focusing mainly on trap set, with some limited hand percussion experience as well. Before I learned to play real drums, though, I also played Drummania, a drum simulation game made by Konami and part of the Bemani family of music games. It really got me interested in drums, I highly recommend it if you can find a machine near you. 2. What do you use to play Rock Band? Is your kit modded or something? Please see the link above entitled "Info on my Drum Setup". 3. How much did your setup cost? The Roland TD-6 SX-T that I use goes for around $2000 on Musician's Friend, probably cheaper if you look on ebay or Craig's List. 4. Wow, that's a lot of money. You really spent $2k just to play Rock Band? Nope, I bought the Roland kit months before Rock Band came out to do some recording and session work. I also badly needed a quieter way to practice drums in my apartment; an acoustic kit with silencers just wasn't cutting it. It was just very good fortune that I already had the kit when people began discovering how to hook up MIDI kits to Rock Band. 5. Ok, but isn't that kind of cheating? I suppose everyone will form their own opinions about this subject no matter what, but the official word right now is that it is not cheating. Posts on both ScoreHero and the Rock Band forums have been made about this mod, and both the ScoreHero mods, rockband.com mods, and Harmonix staff have ruled that this type of kit does not invalidate competitive scores. They have, however, ruled that any sort of double-bass pedal mod would invalidate such scores. For the record, I use a DW5000 single pedal. 6. What do you use to record your videos? For the direct-capture I use an Adaptec Gamebridge. You can get them from Amazon.com for between $30-$50 USD. For the external view I use an older Sony Handycam. (It still records on Digital-8s...) 7. Why do you usually only hit the bass pedal during the Big Rock Ending? Doesn't that get you less points? For an explanation of how the points gained from a BRE work, please see the description of my Run to the Hills Gold-star video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPGiIZq93hE Alternately, search the Technique forums at rockband.scorehero.com for in-depth explanations of BREs for both guitar and drums. 8. Can I add you as a friend/play Band Quickplay/Score Duel/hang out with you? I'd love to! Unfortunately, I'm just one guy who also has a job, girlfriend, and is a full-time college student. So, what little time I do have for Rock Band, I'm usually spending either working on Solo Tour, or playing with my ScoreHero band, More Cowbell! http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2576 As for the friend thing, XBL only lets me have 100 friends, and I reached that limit a long time ago, and it's getting very full of people I either know in real life or am in frequent contact with on Scorehero, so it's really not likely. =/ Sorry. Don't be afraid to send me a message, though. I can't promise I'll respond the same day or even the same week, but I'll do my best to get back to you. 9. Fag. Get a life. Please phrase all insults in the form of a question. Also, see question #8. Tags: rock band expert drums they're red hot chili peppers someguy913 someguy some guy drummer drumming video game |

The Greeting Song Expert Drums *SIGHTREAD* People had been asking for me to put up sightread videos for a while, so here they are. For those who don't know, a sightread means playing a song without having ever heard/seen/played the chart or song beforehand. The quality is bad because it was done live on stream. Real, multi-angle videos with the GoodWoods and ION kit (the goodwoods are as good as the ION's, believe it or not) will resume around October 12th. Cobus - *Nsync - Pop (DRUMS COVER) http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cobus-Potgieter/18074843749 This is a drum cover (from the TRI-cam Series) of *Nsync's song, Pop. I edited this song so that it's 10% faster than the original album version.. makes things more interesting :) This is technically not at all accurate, but that wasn't the intention of the 'cover'. This is not so much a drum cover as a my personal rendition of the song :) This is pretty much a rock/funk cover of a VERY "pop" song, which made things really interesting.. i have to say i'm quite pleased with the outcome. *NSYNC - Pop from the 2001 release Celebrity is the copyrigthed property of its owner. Cobus - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Face Down (Drums Cover) Laus Deo Semper. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cobus-Potgieter/18074843749 [www.cobuspotgieter.com] This is a drum cover of RJA's song, Face Down. AWESOME song, insane drumming, loved covering this, one of my all-time favorites. I have to emphasize, I know calling this a "cover" is wrong, seeing as I only PARTLY stayed true to the song's drums, through the WHOLE song i play some variations of the beats, phrasing and fills, I'm NOT aiming to be accurate to the original drums, I'm just aiming to enjoy myself.. :) And I thouroughly succeeded in doing that, I might add ;) Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Face Down from the 2006 release Don't You Fake It is the copyrighted property of its owner. Run to the Hills: Real Drums (READ THE INFO) EDIT: If you look in the window, it is NOT a person: I have no idea how any of you could possibly see the plant right outside my window, in my backyard, which is closed off by a fence, as a person. I mean, don't you think i'd notice them in the window? :P The reason it's blowing around is because of the wind. Also, people have been accusing me of speeding this up. Think about how hard it would be to play a song slower than usual, and then speed it up, and have everything match up with the song: not to mention, the pitch of everything would be much higher in real life had i sped it up, not to mention obvious things such as my movements, etc. This video is not sped up, and it's kind of silly to think that I would actually resort to something like that in any of my videos. ========================= So, here it is. An actual Rock Band song, translated to drums, so to speak. The beginning is off time for some reason, but it syncs up soon thereafter. I screw up a few times, due to lack of practicing it on real drums: parts like where the red notes suddenly go from the hi-hat to the toms are a bit hard to time. Also, i took liberties on some parts of the song: I don't have two crash cymbals, so I had to hit the same one for when the blue and green are supposed to be seperate crashes, as well as hitting the snare during the 4x red, 4x yellow, 4x blue etc. rolls instead of a fourth tom which isn't on my set. The way I set this up was to let the song play out on practice mode, not hitting anything, and muting the drums in the options. (That's why the notechart shows me missing all the notes.) Then, i just spliced the audio together. I notice it's kind of hard to hear the bass pedal: however if you look at my leg, and the reflection of my foot on the floor tom, you can clearly see it going to the beat and hitting the pedal when it's supposed to; even if you can't hear it. Yes, the cymbals need to be loosened, however, the set was used when we bought it: the previous owners did not take care of it, and thus if you loosen it, sometimes the entire cymbal pops off. this is also why the drumset sounds like crap. The china cymbal was broken because of a neighbor abusing the set. The hi-hat pedal is also broken, which is why I can't lift it up to do the final hit on the patterns in the intro to the song. History of Drums Performed by Jay Webler,at a local Atlanta private school, during a teacher recital. The "History of Drums" is a solo that goes from Baby Dodds to Steve Gadd, with Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Elvin Jones, Max Roach, etc. in between. This was a solo that I developed when, at the insistance of Rebecca,(one of my 5 children, who thought it would be a neat, I entered a local contest. I won the contest and have since gone back into full time private teaching. EXPLANATION OF SOLO: The popular music of our day did not just pop up one day out of nowhere. The same is true for the styles of Drumming. As with life everything has a beginning in this world. This solo captures 100 years of drumming styles in 8 minutes starting with the old military drumming at the turn of the century: 1. The beginning is a prelude which I use to prepare for what is about to happen. The patterns I am playing on the cymbals are based on a 6/8 March tempo. 2. Upon the conclusion of the prelude I break into a strong 6/8 cadence which is familiar to everybody. This cadence is basic rhythm which early Dixieland drummers based their style on. Coming out of the cadence I begin with the father of Dixieland drumming, Baby Dodds, using a common 2 beat rhythm played on the snare drum. In the old days the drummers did not use ride cymbals as they are used today. The rhythms were played on the snare drum, Sock Cymbal, wood blocks, or anything else they had to hit. As I am playing the Baby Dodd's style I begin to slip in the styles of Gene Krupa, who was credited with bringing drums to the forefront. After a brief stint on the floor tom, playing the famous solo from Sing, Sing, Sing, I begin to go into the styles of Buddy Rich who a drummer that took Big Band Drumming to new levels. After going through a number of the typical Buddy Rich Drum Licks, I close this section with a bunch of flash and crash drumming which seems to please the crowd greatly. 3. When I begin playing the ride cymbal I have made a move into a quasi be-bop style of drumming which followed the swing era. During this section I go through the styles of Max Roach and Elvin Jones. During this period drummers began to develop more sophisticated 4 way co-ordination patterns. I begin to develop this as I begin on the ride cymbal again. With the addition of each limb of my body I bring a different rhythmic pattern based upon the swing rhythm. Upon bringing in the bass drum I am playing 4 different rhythms at one time. I come out of this and go into an explosive Big band style of drumming. 4. I immediately leave the bebop style and go into a Rock Rhythm during which I play various styles of rhythms that are popular in that vain. During the Rock section I include a modified version of a famous drum solo from the Rock Group Iron Butterfly. 5. After playing some transitional rhythms I begin to move into the fusion era. During this era the style called "linear playing" was being developed. I demonstrate this era by playing a section of a piece recorded by Chick Corea who used Steve Gadd as his drummer. Steve Gadd was perhaps the most famous proponent of linear playing. In this style no two limbs are striking any part of the drum set at one time. It has also been revered to as "melodic playing". Upon completed the linear phase I begin to move into Latin phase. This phase has been used quite extensively over the last 30 years and is still being developed. A Samba rhythm is being played on the bass drum while other Latin rhythms are played on the snare drum with the left hand. 6. After completing the "fusion" era I break into the finale with a series of cymbals crashes and a decrescendo on the snare drum. Solo drummers such Buddy Rich and Louis Bellson would often, during long drum solos, go into a open to close (slow to fast), single stroke roll to show off their speed on the drums and exite the audience. I choose to use this technique while maintaining the same tempo that I started with. Using rhythmic notation I go from quarters notes all the way to 32nd notes using single strokes before I begin my final "flash and crash" scene. After completing the crashing cymbals I break into the a quick demo of the 3rd movement of Buddy Rich's West Side Story. This makes the transition back to my original 6/8 rhythm very easy. After completing this I return to the original 6/8 rhythm which brings me right back to where I started from. Tags: Drums Drummer Drum Solo Buddy Rich Steve Gadd Max Roach Louis Bellson Elvin Jones |

Blackened (Rock Band Expert Drums 5 Stars) read this first please: EDIT: new highest score, 293,000+, goin for 300,000 :D people are asking me the same questions over and over, so reading this should help answer a lot of the generic ones. Still, I appreciate the comments/views and stuff, don't get me wrong. Check out the rest of my videos if you want to. I do music videos for a part-time-professional job, so that's what most of my work on here is. So I got my 6th new drumset; it's pretty damned bad, so I invented yet another mod, and got this video of me playing Blackened on Expert. I can definitely improve on this: it's definitely gold-starrable. And yes, at :43, i'm mimicing the guitar player, because it was just something stupid to do. The reason I have socks with rubber bands on my drum heads is for increased sensitivity and lowered double-hits: details about it can be found here: http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3807 (my gamertag = sskitzzo) And yes, I play drums in real life, have been for 4+ years, so the people going on about "play a real instrument", no, sorry, I do play real drums. FINALLY, my grip is fine for playing this game; play on this set before you say that, playing on this set is NOTHING like playing on a real drumset in terms of size, height, feel, movements needed, or anything else. Not trying to be a dick with all this, just informing people so they don't keep on saying the same stuff, haha, but don't get me wrong, I appreciate the comments. 100% FULL COMBO - The Perfect Drug - Expert Drums Not-so-impossible... 239,575 (1,893 Note Streak) The very first Expert drums FC of The Perfect Drug. It's listed under the "Impossible" tier as the second most difficult song in the game. This is probably the most complex drum chart I've seen to date. It throws everything at you but the kitchen sink. And the "window" of time given to play each note is very minuscule, meaning if I decided to loosen up my "feel" just a little...I'd instantly start missing notes. There is a lot of diversity from one section to the next, but it makes it fun to play. I really like the syncopation at 1:29, but I usually have to hold my breath all the way through. Some of the note patterns begin on the second 16th note...so you basically have to be the master of space and time, lol. I also love the sequence at 3:33. It has some pretty neat drum n' bass parts that you almost never see in acoustic music. Maps (Rock Band Expert Drums 5 Star) read this first please: check out my other videos too if you get the chance, Rock Band is just a hobby, but I make music videos and other such stuff as a part-time job, so the extra views/comments are appreciated. people are asking me the same questions over and over, so reading this should help answer a lot of the generic ones. Still, I appreciate the comments/views and stuff, don't get me wrong. (my gamertag = sskitzzo) This is still with my shitty set; i'll be getting a new one shortly, hopefully, but there are noticable pad misses in this video. Only my 2nd time ever playing this also, so there's still room for improvement in that area too. By the way, if you want to know how to do the "notes on the screen" effect; There's a lot of tutorials on the web for this kind of stuff with After Effects, and the best site i've ever been to for them (which i visit frequently) is www.videocopilot.net ; they've got a ton of tutorials, and even a basic training series of videos for the After Effects beginner, and all of it's free. and no, i'm not getting paid to plug thier site, i really just reccomend it hahaha And yes, I play drums in real life, have been for 4+ years, so the people going on about "play a real instrument", no, sorry, I do play real drums. The tape is on my drums because the drums were faulty out of the box; the tape holds the pad closer to the sensor inside of it, which allows for more sensitive hits for the time being, until I get it replaced.
