Perfect Hackintosh 10.5.1 - EFI and Vanilla Kernel The RatSim team managed to build a perfect PC configuration to run MacOS X Leopard. We are using Vanilla Kernel + EFI, so, software updates without a problem! Everything is working, from CPU to GPU, with minor patches applied (Built-in sound) As for extras, we bought a cheap VIA firewire card, working perfectly with a DV camera (Canon ZR60) and Firewire Audio Interface attached (Presonus Inspire), also, we're using a Edimax USB Wireless dongle (EW-7318USG), working perfectly with kismac (wardriving app) The best thing is this machine was built for just 700 Brazilian Reais or US$ 400,00 (which could be much less expensive for people living in more developed countries without abusive taxes) By the way, note that you're not allowed to have Mac OS X installed on a PC, also, we're MacManiacs since 1984 or so, and we condone piracy, especially piracy of awesome software from Apple, but what we do condone more is the abusive prices here in Brazil for Macs and the total disrespect from Apple towards Brazilian Market, for instance, we hate the fact that something that belongs to us, such as an iPhone, is totally locked up for mediocre business agreements. The same applies to Intel Macs in a less aggressive way, because, hey... Come on... It's just a regular PC. We really hope that Apple think different from now on, and release a SDK for the iPhone, as well opening MacOS X for the low and mid-end public. It's sad to see that Apple --still-- can't see this huge market (software) towards this direction (everyone), and the advantage of an enourmous gap that Vista, unlike previous versions, left behind. Someone have to fill this gap, will it be Linux, Google? Or will we be Windows XP slaves forever? Wake up Apple!!! Go Leopard!!! Don't get us wrong (A.K.A.; Don't Flame Us!), it's simply our opinion... -------------------UPDATE------------------- Due to frequent requests, here are the Specs of the critical components used in this specific configuration (we've actually did many more configs): Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2 RAM - 2 x 1Gb Kingston ValueRam DDR2 667 Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 GPU - Geforce 7300GS - Point of View Cool extras (all working): Via Firewire Card, Presonus Inspire Audio Interface, FastTrack USB, Canon ZR60 Camcorder and recently tested: Cheap chinese Midi to Usb cable, bought off ebay for 5 bucks, working like a charm) -------------------------------------------- For complete specs or advice on building your own Hackintosh, you can contact us at Rat.Sim.Br@gmail.com Also, we'll try to answer the emails the best we can, since we're building hackintoshs for hobbyist purposes only, we pretty much don't have time available to reply quickly. Perfect Hackintosh - Leopard Server 10.5.4 (Yet Another) Perfect hackintosh with Leopard Server 10.5.4. The story is very short: I was a little bored with my Desktop Hackintosh 10.5.4 and I've decided to go pro, so I've upgraded the cat to a real leopard. Well, enough talk... Here are the specs: Pentium Dual Core E2180 OC'ed (GREAT and CHEAP processor) Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L 4Gb DDR2 800 Kingston N5 NVidia XFX GeForce 8500GT HDD, etc... not so important Price for a complete machine - 1000 reais, or 600 dollars (or much less if you're on USA or another country) The method: ---Desktop--- 1- Installed Leo4All V2, cat'ed a Codec Dump on ubuntu, used Taruga HDA Patcher, EFI Strings for the GPU. (Your mileage may vary) 2- When everything was looking good, including the DVI/VGA order, which I had to do a little Hex job, I proceeded to 10.5.4 update, doing a "while sleep 1 ; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext ; done" in the terminal to make sure this kext is wiped during the update. Also, did a nano -w /System/InstallAtStartup/Scripts/1 and edited the kextload "Don't Steal Mac OS X.kext" to dsmos.kext ---Upgrade to Server--- The Upgrade to Server was simple, I've installed the Server.mpkg from Leo Server install DVD, then rebooted, inserted the serial, then downloaded the 10.5.4 combo update and I did the same thing for Desktop step 2... Voilá! Have Phun! Oh, almost forgot our tradition, writing a little manifesto, we got lots of positive feedback from our hackintosh/iphone manifesto (see the description on our other vids), so, here's another one, this time, server-wise, lol. -----------------Manifesto--------------------- Notice that we actually own several retail copies of Mac OS X Leopard desktop as well some server licenses, but in this case, just a test, nothing else, I just wrote down a serial that I found from a torrent site. Don't get me wrong apple... Like the iPhone and the Mac OS X, you're wasting an excellent server platform just to satisfy your "hardware ego" and PPC zealots and fanboys out there (I actually was one of them, not anymore). Your server system could be powering millions (of cheaper) Intel Servers out there (from Dell, IBM, HP) and making a lot of money from these companies, that I'm pretty damn sure, that, before Jobs even mention the terms of an agreement, Michael Dell would be like: YES, PLEASE!!! Lemme have OSX Server on our PowerEdges, no matter what it takes. These companies are dying to have a OSX on their machines, and it could be a good start with OSX Server. Also, Apple, remember the iPhone... You guys talk a lot about being proprietary... But, I wonder how can you enter the enterprise market without a decent and proprietary server pool... Will you accept your iPhone running only MS Exchange? Bill Gates thanks you! Well, we sincerely hope that Apple will think different from now on... If it isn't the case, then we would really like to see Apple burning in an AntiTrust hell in a near future... Because I mean, their EULA is simply ridiculous now, and even more illegal than building a (legal) hackintosh... PPC was a closed platform, expensive to clone, so that's ok... But now Apple is running on Intel, which is an open platform, so be it... After all, even Apple likes and advocates Windows running on Boot Camp... Equal Rights!! Power to our brothers at Psystar! You guys should sue Apple, not the other way around! Peace! PS: By the way... Talking about Psystar, it is me, or something smells funky about this company? I mean, a company that came from nowhere, and bought a six million building in Miami in a snap? I got a conspiration theory, maybe these guys are being backed up by huge companies? Or these guys ARE in fact these companies? hmm.... Or maybe, even Apple's Skunk Works testing the water? I dunno... But something is rotten in the "state" of Cupertino... Osx86 - Mac OSX on PC Hardware Building a fast & cheap Mac PC from hardware which works with OSX out of the box. For more info, please goto http://www.osx86project.org and look up the wiki on OSX86 to see what PC hardware will work with OSX. Also goto the URL above for questions concerning dual boot, etc. Also see this great write up on a cheap $200 OSX86 machine here: http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/202/42/ Only thing that needed help was the sound hardware, and even the Network card came up in OSX as an Apple device. My wireless also wasn't supported, so no airport :( But - goto the OSX86 wiki, from what I've read there are several wifi cards that work! In fact in one of my more recent videos I show you can make a Belkin PCI card work as the Airport wifi hardware. I've also tested my USB HP Officejet printer (w0rks perfect!) My Sony Digital Camera (w0rks perfect!) Burns DVDs / CDs iTunes Works perfectly Built in Firewire port? / cannot connect my digital video camera An even Cheaper solution to building one of these is to use a Celeron w/ SS3 You will have to either have two disks, or partition your HD into two drives to make this dual boot setup I have work, then modify your windows boot.ini startup file so you can boot between OSX & XP like shown in this video. Please don't ask me how to make it work, or where to 'find' OSX86. It's on torrentportal.com/torrentz.com (& virtually aLL the tOrrent sites) -- the answers to your questions are in both the wiki and in the forums. This system (does not hang on hardware, etc.) it's very stable once you modify kext drivers and remember to use hardware which is in the OSX86 wiki... See my other video on getting a Belkin PCI wireless card to work as an Airport & enjoy your hackintosh PCs! Tags: OSX PC osx86 hacking apple hardware hack hackintosh macintosh mac os |

Hackintosh - Asus P5W DH Deluxe Digital Out is working! This movie was captured using the snapZ pro X trial. Sound was captured through the "Internal microphone". That means mic is also working on this board. This movie demonstrates that by selecting the "Built-in Line Output" on the VLC audio device menu, no sound can be heard. While by selecting "Built-in Digital Out (Encoded Output), sound is present (actually, in DTS surround). And by selecting "Built-in Digital Output", only stereo sound can be heard (PCM). rkmugen's Hackintosh 10.5.1 UPDATE: Mar. 19,2008; I successfully updated to 10.5.2 using Kalyway's combo update and kernel packages. I was also able to use the Software Update utility afterwards to update everything else in one simple step. GOOD STUFF! OLD description: ---------------- Using Kalyway's Leopard 10.5.1 on my HP Media Center (m7780n). I am using one hand to hold the camera so forgive me if it veers off to the side where you can't see anything or if I'm pointing at the wrong keys... probably looks like I'm drunk or something. Note that I am able to access my separate Vista drive and its associated HP recovery partition. I have not yet tried to copy files from the separate OSX drive onto the Vista drive while booted in OSX. Another bug is that switching between OSX and Vista after each reboot screws up the clock on both OSes. I read that there is a temporary fix for this, but I've not yet tried it. Other than that, everything else appears to work fine for this machine, including Sleep, Restart, and Shutdown (in OS X). Minor details: *the various 'clicks', 'bumps', and 'cracks' you hear are from my chair, the floor, the lens cap knocking on the camera, and my creaky desk. *all filmed in the dark because I don't want you all to see me yet... (i'm a mess). *I don't say anything in the vid because I sound funny whenever my voice is recorded. :\ *Yes, that is the Apple Aluminum Keyboard (wired) *Guarana Antarctica! ;it beats Sprite or 7up any day! *SGCSim (stargate sg-1 simulator) ;one of my fav TV shows... now I get to pretend that I'm Walter (the "chevron" guy) Tags: osx86 kalyway leopard 10.5 10.5.1 hp pavilion media center |
