Libor Brom (1923 - 2006) Libor Brom was professor of Foreign Languages and Literatures and director of Russian Area Studies at the University of Denver. He is the author of nine books and a great deal of studies in the field of Slavic culture and civilization. In addition, he has lectured at numerous institutions of leaming and before many civic and religious groups on education, literature, and inrernational relations. He has appeared on three continents and often on radio and television. A native Czechoslovakian, Dr. Brom is an American citizen. He received his education at the Czechoslovak Institute of Technology, School of Economics, the Charles University of Prague, School of law, the San Francisco State University, and the University of Colorado. In Europe, Dr. Brom served as an economist and lawyer in International Business and as the chief planner in the research development, and normalization of Czechoslovak river shipbuilding. As a professor in the United States, he was selected by the Modern Ianguage Association of America as the Teacher wih Superlative Performance, named The American by Choice in Colorado, and received a National Americanism Medal. In the College Book by the Ballantine Books of New York, 1984 he is named Denver University's best professor. Dr. Brom served in the leadership of many national and international organizations and was imprisoned by both the Nazis and the Communists. Away In A Manger (my arrangement) - sung by Jack Marti I've always liked this little lullaby, but the trouble is, I couldn't make up my mind what melody to use, so I used both of them! Hope you like it. Away in a Manger was originally published in 1885 in a Lutheran Sunday school book and this created the misconception that the lyrics were actually written by Martin Luther himself. The author of the first two verses is unknown, but the third verse was written by John T. McFarland. The most commonly used melody for Away in a Manger was composed by James R. Murray in 1887, but an alternate melody was composed by William J. Kirkpatrick in 1895. In my arrangement, I play and sing Kirkpatrick's melody, but use Murray's melody between verses. Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head. The stars in the sky looked down where He lay, The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay. The cattle are lowing, the Baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes; I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh. The River Dance Company purposes to bring to the world a forum for the manifest presence of God through the ministry of the arts. Our mission is to inspire Christ-like transformation in the lives of those we touch. We use processional, choreographed, spontaneous, interpretive and prophetic movement in dance. Sign language, drama and singing are also incorporated as well as using creative worship tools such as tambourines, flags, streamers, and banners. Currently we instruct over 60 students of various ages and skill levels. Our studio represents more than 25 different churches throughout Fort Wayne, Indiana and the surrounding area.
