苗族歌鼟 Miao Folk Songs part 1/3 Miao Folk Songs (1/3) Part 1 tells who they are, where they live and the "tea songs". There are about 100,000 Miao people who live in highlands in Jingzhou (靖州) county, Hunan province. Because they (at least this tribe) didn't have written languages, so they depended on songs to tell everything from history to everyday life, like drinking tea/wine, having meal, finding marriage parter etc. the songs are all vocals, no instruments. This documentary is the local government's attempt to preserve and promote this unique culture because young people are leaving for the cities, the ones who can sing are mostly old people now.
