Bush Bloopers in Australia - OPEC or APEC? President George W. Bush makes light of his bloopers during an APEC address. U.S President George W. Bush, renowned for his mispronunciation of words during his speeches, once again made audiences laugh during his address to the business summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) forum in Australia. Within the first seconds of his speech, Bush referred to the gathering as the OPEC summit, the acronym for the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and then quickly rectified it to APEC, causing the gathering to erupt into laughter. He later referred to Australia as Austria, but failed to pick up on it or rephrase the comment. Throughout the rest of his speech he mispronounced several words, including Australia's capital Canberra, Kuala Lumpur and Jemaah Islamiyah. And as if things weren't bad enough, when he had concluded his addresses, he made his way to the wrong exit, prompting Australian Prime Minister John Howard to make finger gestures at him, to show him the right way off the stage. The PFLP(Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) were angry that Carlos hadn't killed the hostages and with his celebrity status, so they expelled him, but it is rumoured that Carlos picked up $1 million from Libyan President Col Qadhafi for the OPEC assault. He blames high prices on factors outside OPEC's control, such as US pressure on Iran and the weak US dollar. Khelil made the comments after talks with European Union nations. The OPEC chief said the cartel believes it's pumping enough oil to supply current demand and has stocks and extra capacity to spare. Khelil said prices in the next few weeks will depend largely on how the US deals with Iran and the strength of the dollar. Khelil blames high prices on the US subprime crisis.
