Palestine- Sijen 3aka Traditional Palestinian song lamenting the loss of three great men in 1930- Fouad Hejazi, Mohamad Jamjoum, and Atta Al Zeir. R.I.P. Here is a VERY ROUGH translation of the words, even though I do not believe sucha beautiful song can be translated into a language like english: Opening: Three men and three verdicts, the accusation: love of Palestine, the ruling judgement: execution. O Atta Al Zeir, Foud Hejazi, O Jamjoum, O three shining stars! You lit up the land of my nation, and from Akka came the funerals for three doves, emerging from the darkness and spreading my country with rays of light. Song: They were three men, racing towards death, in front of them the deadly predicament of the oppressor. And they met it with bravery and courage as great as the area of the country they were defending. (Ya 3ain Ya 3ain x 3) O the darkness of the prison (of Akka) is too much, when will it be over for these brave men? The day is Tuesday the 3rd, O My Land (Palestine) answer...who will race to give his life and blood for you? (Ya 3ain Ya 3ain x3) From Akka's Prison came the funerals, Mohammad Jamjoun and Fouad Hejazi, Mourn for them O my people mourn, The grief of the year has come. From Akka's Prison came the funerals, Mohammad Jamjoun and Fouad Hejazi, Mourn for them O my people mourn, The grief of the year has come (Church bells toll) Mohammad Jamjoum with his will, Fouad Hejazi with his love of righteousness, look what they offered! Only to have the judgement of the Oppressor execute them! Mohammad Jamjoum with his will, Fouad Hejazi with his love of righteousness, look what they offered! Only to have the judgement of the Oppressor execute them! And Say O Mohammad 'I am the first among you!', my voice O Atta is in your honour, and say O Hejazi "I am the first among you", that is the strength of their honour. And Say O Mohammad 'I am the first among you!', my voice O Atta is in your honour, and say O Hejazi "I am the first among you", that is the strength of their honour. (Church bells toll) O my dear loving mother the time has come, with all the nations of the world to witness, they called Fouad, O Fouad, they cannot even say farewell! O my dear loving mother the time has come, with all the nations of the world to witness, they called Fouad, O Fouad, they cannot even say farewell! They call to Atta, O Atta you are the glory of men and bravery, he attacked the garrison with sweeping passion! They call to Atta, O Atta you are the glory of men and bravery, he attacked the garrison with sweeping passion! (Church bells toll) O my brother Yousef, and you my mother, do not (act in revenge) my sister lest you fall into demise. For the sake of this country I sacrificed my blood, it is all for you O Palestine. O my brother Yousef, and you my mother, do not (act in revenge) my sister lest you fall into demise. For the sake of this country I sacrificed my blood, it is all for you O Palestine. These three died the death of lions! Stay steadfast O mother, stay resilient. Five-year-old Salamah was one of three children Tom was attempting to rescue when he was shot. He had frozen in fear when soldiers began firing at him. Another young peace campaigner, Brian Avery, is lucky to be alive after a burst of machine gun fire ripped off half his face. He now lies in hospital with horrific scars barely able to talk. Dirty War - Israel/Palestine April 2002 A look at the Palestinian suicide bombers. Strapped with explosives, Izzedine Masri left his affluent home near Jenin to blow himself up in Jerusalem -- killing 15 Israeli civilians. It's not too hard to find others who want to follow his example." Many young men seek this martyrdom because it's accepted by God and has no judgement", says one young man. Israel's attempts to hit back harder have only served to deepen resistance and unite the Palestinian factions. "Fatah, Al-Kassam Brigades and Islamic Jihad are united, and have pledged to avenge the martyrs blood," yells one hooded gunmen at a Hamas rally. But much of the popular anger is reserved for the Palestinians who betray the cause and work with the Israeli secret service -- the Shin Bet. "The state of Israel could not have existed and would not be able to exist without these collaborators," says Rami Barhm. Secret video footage shows the gruesome execution of a Hamas collaborator. The information he provided to the Shin Bet led to the death of two of his colleagues. Senior Shin Bet officer, Moshe Kuperburg was in charge of recruiting Palestinian agents and collaborators. "Intelligence is the most important thing because it feeds the military and the government." He claims they have Palestinian spies in the senior leadership of every Palestinian faction. Rare pictures from the security service's own website show agents working undercover, immersing themselves in Palestinian communities. However, there is widespread criticism of their recruitment methods. "Israel pressure Palestinians to collaborate, both in torture and interrrogations," comments Jessica Montell, of human rights group B'Tselem. Gaza Tunnels - Israel/Palestine Mar 2008 Most of Hamas' weapons are smuggled in through tunnels between Gaza and Egypt. These tunnels are usually dug by children, who know they could be killed at any moment. Every night, 14 year old Said scrambles down a narrow shaft leading to a tunnel. He'll spend the next eight hours digging without a break. It's claustrophobic, difficult work. The heat in the tunnel is unbearable and the more they advance, the harder it becomes to breathe. At any moment, the tunnel could come crashing down, burying them alive. That's not the only danger. "Sometime the Egyptians shoot gas into the tunnel that might kill us", states Ramdan. "There are risks of electric shocks and the Israelis might bomb the entrance". Since Hamas seized control of Gaza, the borders have been closed. The tunnels are the only way to import goods into the territory. "They're a gold mine!" states Said. But to his disgust, most of the profits go to other people. "We do all the work, then they swindle us", he complains. Once the tunnel is nearly ready, "other people will open it, do the trafficking and make more money than us". The money he does make will enable Said to support his entire family. But everytime he goes into the tunnel, he knows: "You are digging your own grave". war in palestine Question: Are we allowed to buy items from Israeli sources, even though this money may be used to help the Jewish "war machine"? Answer by Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi: It is Jihad to liberate the Islamic lands from those who attack or conquer them. These are enemies of Islam. This Jihad is an absolute obligation and a sacred duty; firstly on the people of that land. If the Muslims of that land can't offer sufficientresistance, then Muslims of neighboring countries are obliged to assist. If this is still not sufficient then all the Muslims of the world must assist. Palestine is the land of the first Qiblah of the Muslims, the land of Isra' and Mi`raj, the land of Al-Aqsa and the blessed territory. The conquerors are those with the greatest enmity to the believers, and they are supported by the strongest state on earth - the USA, and by the world Jewish community. Jihad is obligatory against those who take land and expel the inhabitants, spill the blood, violate the honor, destroy thehouses, burn the fields, and corrupt the land. Jihad is the first obligation of all obligations, and the first duty of the Ummah. Muslims are commanded to do this, first those from the land in question, after that their neighbors, and finally all Muslims. We must all be united against the aggressors. We are united in Islam, including unity of belief in the Shari`ah, unity of belief in the Qiblah, and also united in pain and hope. As Allah Almighty says: "Verily this Ummah of yours is one Ummah." (Qur'an, 21:92). Allah Almighty also says: "Surely the believers are a single brotherhood." (Qur'an, 49:10). There is a Hadith of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that states: "The Muslim is the brother to the Muslim, he can't oppress him, he can't give him up, he can't let him down." [Transmitted by Muslim]. Now we see our brothers and children in Al-Aqsa and the blessed land of Palestine generously sacrificing their blood, giving their souls willingly in the way of Allah. All Muslims must help them with whatever power they have. (See the Noble Qur'an, 8:72). If people ask in the name of religion we must help them. The vehicle of this support is a complete boycott of the enemies' goods. Each riyal, dirham ...etc. used to buy their goods eventually becomes bullets to be fired at the hearts of brothers and children in Palestine. For this reason, it is an obligation not to help them (the enemies of Islam) by buying their goods. To buy their goods is to support tyranny, oppression and aggression. Buying goods from them will strengthen them; our duty is to make them as weak as we can. Our obligation is to strengthen our resisting brothers in the Sacred Land as much as we can. If we cannot strengthen the brothers, we have a duty to make the enemy weak. If their weakness cannot be achieved except by boycott, we must boycott them. American goods, exactly like "Israeli" goods, are forbidden. It is also forbidden to advertise these goods. America today is a second Israel. It totally supports the Zionist entity. The usurper could not do this without the support of America. "Israel's" unjustified destruction and vandalism of everything has been using American money, American weapons, and the American veto. America has done this for decades without suffering the consequences of any punishment or protests about their oppressive and prejudiced position from the Islamic world. The time has come for the Islamic Ummah to say "NO" to America, "NO" to its companies, and "NO" to its goods, which swamp our markets. We are eating, drinking, wearing and riding whatever America produces. `Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "You have three enemies; your enemy, the friend of your enemy, and the enemy of your friend". The USA today is more than friends to our enemy; they would destroy themselves for Israel. The world wide Muslim Ummah numbering 1.3 billion, could cause pain to the USA and its companies by boycotting them. This is an obligation of our religion, and the way of Allah. Every Muslim that buys "Israeli" or American goods, when there is an alternative from other countries is committing a haram act. They are clearly committing a major sin, which is a crime against Allah's law, which invokes punishment from Allah, and the contempt of the people. Our brothers in "Israel" and America are forced to deal with them and buy their products. Allah does not ask you to do what you can't do; only what you can. Allah says: "Fear Allah as much as you are able." (Qur'an, 64:16). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If I order you to do something, do however much you can". Muslims in America must work with companies who are least hostile to Muslims, least allied to the Zionists. Boycott Zionist companies as much as you can. palestine Land and Borders: Palestine, currently under occupation, is located on the East coast of the Miditerannean Sea, West of Jordan and to the south of Lebanon. The territory of Palestine covers around 10,435 square miles (almost same size as the state of Vermont in the USA - that is, pretty small.) [1] Out of this territory, there are 10,163 square miles of land area. The rest is water: half of the area of the Dead Sea (al-BaHr al-Mayyit), Huleh Lake (BuHayrat al-Huuleh) which was dried by the occupation and Tiberias Lake (BuHayrat Tabariyyah) which is also known as the Sea of Galilee (BaHr al-jaliil). Topography and Terrain: Palestine can be divided into four main distinct regions: * Coastal and Inner Plains: These are among the best fertile land in Palestine and elsewhere, with adequate resources of irrigation (from rainfall and underground water). They are where most of the Palestinian citrus groves used to stand. The coastal stretch is divided by Jabal al-Karmel (Mount Carmel) into the plain of Akka (Acre) and the plain of Palestine (also called Saruunah). The inner part consists, largely, of Marj bin 3aamir. This one is triangular in shape, with Jenin and Nazareth (An-NaaSirah) as its base and the SE edge of the Akka plain as its sharp corner. * The Mountains and Hills: This part is largely rocky but has terraces which make it suitable for a number of trees. Olives is one of the most planted trees in these regions. There are almonds, apples and others. Also, there are patches of plains scattered around in this region and these are fully utilized: they are planted wheat, barely, lentils .. in Winter and vegetables during the Summer (mostly tomatoes, melons, maize and other vegetation that stands the hot weather). Mountains are located in al-Jaliil (Galilee), al-Karmel, Nablus and Hebron areas. * The Jordan Valley and Ghawr: This is well below sea level, hence the name ghawr, with very good soil but very little water resources. Agriculture there depends on irrigation either from local streams or the Jordan River. Due to its climate, that region used to produce summer vegetables in late Winter stretching the availability of fresh produce before electricity and refregerators. The two lakes are at the northern edge of this region. * The Southern Desert: This region comprises almost half of the land of Palestine. It is also triangular in shape. The base is fertile and the rest, with its apex near the town of Aqaba, is poor with scattered patches of regions suitable for cultivation. Bi'r as-Sab' (renamed Beersheba by the occupation) is the main town in that region.[2] Population: There has never been an accurate official census in Palestine since the roots of the recent aggression. Hadawi states that at the end of 1918 (WW1), there were 700,000 people living in Palestine. These were divided into 574,000 Muslims, 70,000 Christians and 56,000 Jews. Almost all the Palestinian Christians are Arabs and most of the Jews as well (up to around 1900 AD). These numbers check positively with the estimate that only 6% to 7% of the total Palestinian population was Jewish right after the first Zionist congress in Basel. It is also consistent with what David Newman's statement [3] that: between 1800 and 1945, The Jewish Population of Palestine increased from approximately 25,000 to 600,000, eventually comprising some 33 per cent of the country's population. Inside Gaza - Israel/Palestine Oct 2007 With Fatah and Hamas so divided, will the recent peace talks achieve anything? There are warnings Hamas will attempt to disrupt the summit by stepping up rocket attacks. From a wooded valley in Gaza, Al Aqsa fighters light a rocket fuse. Everyone runs for their lives as the rocket shoots off into Israel. Later, safe in his office, Al Aqsa's commander shows us how he selects targets in Israel. "We obtain details from Google Earth and check them against our maps". For Gaza's residents, life seems to get harder by the day. Supplies are dwindling thanks to an economic blockade. Fatah claims Hamas is turning Gaza into a brutal police state. It has ordered all medical staff to go on strike. But for the sick, denying them medical care is a step too far. Gaza Under Siege - Israel/Palestine February 2001 One of the most densely populated places on earth, the Gaza Strip is home to over a million Palestinians - and is a virtual prison. Just 43 kilometres long and 10 kilometres wide, most of its residents are refugees who've lived in camps since 1948. Since the Palestinian uprising - the second Intifada - began in September 2000, none of Gaza's 40,000 day labourers have been able to cross the border to Israel. The checkpoint is also closed to all goods and medical supplies coming in from Israel and the West Bank. Local Gazans bear the brunt of Israel's determination to quash the uprising. Some 135 Palestinian children under the age of 15 have been killed by Israel's soldiers - for throwing stones at checkpoints near Israeli settlements. Australian in Palestine account of children suicide bombers Daryl Jones is an australian volunteer aid worker duped by Palestinian propaganda propaganda to come to their aid but later realized that they were engaged in a bloodlust game to destroy the lives of children. She recounts how Palestinians displayed photos of bodies, "gouged and pitted, torn. We were told this is from torture from the Israelis." Later, when she saw a Palestinian child blow up in front of her face, she realized that the ripped apart bodies were the result of human booby traps that the Palestinians used against the Israelis. The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by Dr. Ilan Pappe - Part 1 http://www.ilanpappe.org The present dismal reality unfolding in the Middle East has clear historical roots and a journey into the past may help to illuminate what lies behind the destructive policies of Israel in both Palestine and Lebanon. Zionism arrived in Palestine in the late 19th as a colonialist movement motivated by national impulses. The colonisation of Palestine fitted well the interests and policies of the British Empire on the eve of the First World War. With the backing of Britain, the colonisation project expanded, and became a solid presence on the land after the war and with the establishment of the British mandate in Palestine (which lasted between 1918 and 1948). While this consolidation took place, the indigenous society underwent, like other societies in the rest of the Arab world, a steady process of establishing a national identity. But with one difference. While the rest of the Arab world was shaping its political identity through the struggle against European colonialism, in Palestine nationalism meant asserting your collective identity against both an exploitative British colonialism and expansionist Zionism. Thus, the conflict with Zionism was an additional burden. The pro-Zionist policy of the British mandate there naturally strained the relationship between Britain and the local Palestinian society. This climaxed in a revolt in 1936 against both London and the expanding Zionist colonisation project. At the end of November 1947, the UN offered to divide Palestine into two states almost equal in their territorial space. The Jews were only one third of the population by 1947 and most of them had arrived in Palestine only a few years earlier. The categorical Palestinian refusal to go along with this deal, backed by the Arab League, allowed the Zionist leadership to plan carefully the next step. Between February 1947 and March 1948, a final plan for ethnic cleansing was prepared. The Zionist leadership defined 80 percent of Palestine (Israel today without the West Bank) as the space for the future state. This was an area in which one million Palestinians lived next to 600,000 Jews. The idea was to uproot as many Palestinians as possible. From March 1948 until the end of that year the plan was implemented despite the attempt by some Arab states to oppose it, which failed. Some 750,000 Palestinians were expelled, 531 villages were destroyed and 11 urban neighbourhoods demolished. Half of Palestine's population was uprooted and half of its villages destroyed. The state of Israel was established in over 80 percent of Palestine, turning Palestinian villages into Jewish settlements and recreation parks, but allowing a small number of Palestinian to remain citizens in it. The June 1967 war allowed Israel to take the remaining 20 percent of Palestine. This seizure defeated in a way the ethnic ideology of the Zionist movement. Israel encompassed 100 percent of Palestine, but the state incorporated a large number of Palestinians, the people who Zionists made such an effort to expel in 1948. The fact that Israel was let off easily in 1948, and not condemned for the ethnic cleansing it committed, encouraged it to ethnically cleanse a further 300,000 Palestinians from the West Bank and the Gaza strip.
