1996: Michael Jordan, Chicago Bulls vs. Toronto Raptors I usually like to leave game recaps up to Hoopsencyclopedia because he's "the man" for it, but I've taken it upon myself to cover a game that on the surface may not mean a lot, but underneath went on to hold it's own high-value for multiple reasons. To many young fans today, this isn't exactly a historical game - and for good reason. In the context of basketball history, not many regular season games are truly memorable, classic, or historical. But many also become classics in their own right, for records made, or for final meetings. This one has a little mix of everything - including Toronto's largest ever crowd of over 36,000 fans at the Sky Dome. In their previous meeting of the '95-'96 season Michael was the acclaimed "Raptor killer", sinking the Raptors and posting 14 fourth quarter points. In this game, he posts 36 points on 63.6% shooting (14-22) with 15 in the fourth quarter. Amazingly, 13 of his 15 fourth quarter points come in the last 4 minutes and 20 seconds of playing time. These were the games of his post-baseball career (seemingly happened a lot in 95-96) that made you wish his team wasn't as great as it was, just so you could see him continue to light it up all game long. Unfortunately, Michael never did anything that wasn't necessary. The expansion team, Toronto Raptors, face off against Michael Jordan and a Bulls team that went on to win an all time NBA record of 72 regular season wins. But what the 36,131 fans that packed the Sky Dome on this night may not realise, is that they were watching a story filled with subplots unfold upon the hardwood of a basketball court. Michael Jordan. Alvin Robertson. Damon Stoudamire. Chicago Bulls. Toronto Raptors. 72. 8. What people don't realise, though, is that the Raptors that year were actually stacked with talent that could do harm in any league of any era had they have had the correct team chemistry, confidence, and playing time required to do so. Damon Stoudamire was a rookie, who, in my opinion is one of the most underrated PG talents of our generation. In the 95-96 season, he went on to win ROY and set multiple records including a then record 133 3PT FG's for a rookie. He was also chasing second place for most assists by a rookie, on the tail of Oscar Robertson. He went on to post 19.0ppg and 9.3apg (something that the top PGs of the league today fail to do), while setting multiple franchise records for the Toronto Raptors that still stand today, including most assists by a player (19). In this game, he seemed to be having a shoot out with Steve Kerr and Michael Jordan. Damon posted 30 points, 11 assists and went 6-8 from three point land. Then there's the subplot of Michael vs. Robertson. Great friends, old team mates ('84 olympics), and fierce competitors. History has it, that this would be the last time either of the old timers would face off against each other in professional competition (Robertson retired after '96). For those of you who don't know much about Alvin Robertson, he's perhaps one of the greatest perimiter, roaming, and lock down defenders to ever play the game. He's 1st all-time in steals per game, and he has an anticipation that many see players such as Bruce Bowen to have today. It's no coincidence or conspiracy that he was named DPOY in '85-'86. While both players here are far past their athletic and statistical prime (Jordan 33, Alvin 34), they don't fail to impress and excite. Alvin plays Jordan's turnarounds like only few could; they battle hard for position and trash talk each other all night long. It's also notable that Alvin averaged 2.2 steals per game this season, which would've been good enough for first place in 06-07. Of course, Michael was no defensive slouch either ;), coincidentally averaging 2.2spg. With far too much already said... I'll leave the game to unfold. Enjoy. Allen Iverson 2001 Playoff vs Raptors (every single point) I have made this video of AI vs Vince Carter the Toronto Raptors in 2001 NBA Playoff. Every single points of Iverson is included from Game 1 to Game 7. Vince Carter versus Allen Iverson is the kind of marquee matchup the NBA has been craving since the days of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. As two of the NBA's most exciting young stars, they are dazzling spectators and TV viewers with limitless creativity and breathtaking moves in the Toronto Raptors-Philadelphia 76ers playoff series. "This matchup is great, and people are getting turned on to it," said NBA deputy commissioner Russ Granik, who was at Philadelphia's First Union Center on Wednesday night, when Iverson scored 54 points to Carter's 28 in the 76ers' 97-92 victory. "For better or worse, fans like it when you get superstars going against each other. People have been hearing about these guys for years now, but they haven't gotten this far before where they met each other at this level. That gets people interested." With the NBA's overall popularity declining and new rules designed to make the game more appealing set to take effect next season, an Iverson-Carter matchup is what the league really needed. "Watching these two kids, I don't think our league is in any trouble," 76ers coach Larry Brown said. "They really are exciting." Toronto coach Lenny Wilkens feels much the same way. "I think you are going to see more great individual matchups as the young kids we have in this league develop," he said. "We are always rushing to fix this and fix that, but maybe there is not always something wrong. The young guys have to be able to grow and make some mistakes. Let them grow up and then see what they can do. In this series, you are seeing two of the best going at each other." It is looking increasingly likely that Michael Jordan will end a three-year retirement next season and return to the NBA as a player. Carter and Iverson will be right there, eagerly awaiting that matchup. "You always want to test yourself against the best, and I would welcome the challenge," Iverson said. Said Carter of Jordan: "He set the standard we are all trying to reach." Jordan, of course, owns six championship rings and 10 scoring titles, while Carter, 24, has won nothing more than a rookie of the year award and a slam-dunk title. But Carter is one of the league's most popular players among fans, the leading vote-getter for the past two NBA All-Star Games. Iverson, 25, won his second scoring title this season and is favored to win this season's most valuable player award, as well. And while Iverson and Carter are going head to head, other young stars such as Milwaukee's Ray Allen, the Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant, San Antonio's Tim Duncan, Dallas' Michael Finley and Dirk Nowitzki and Sacramento's Chris Webber and Peja Stojakovic also are still competing in the playoffs. In addition, the league's most improved player, Orlando's 21 year-old Tracy McGrady, was a major star of the first round even though his team lost. "We try to promote the game and the teams and all the players," Granik said. "There are just certain players who capture people's imaginations. You can't deny that. "We can't go out and create them. It just happens and they're doing it on the court. You can't make superstars, I don't care how good a promotion. It's what they do on the court, and here we have Iverson and Carter. They're doing it most nights on the floor. That's what people see and they love to watch it." The personal similarities between Carter and Iverson are few other than both are mama's boys. Iverson's mother, Ann, attends almost all of her son's games while dressed in a 76ers jersey with "IVERSON'S MOM" emblazoned on it. Carter's mother, Michelle, prefers street clothes at games, but she publicly criticized Oakley when he dared to criticize her baby boy. Though Iverson — with his corn-row hairstyle, multiple tattoos and rap albums — might appeal directly to the hip-hop generation, the more conservative Carter is Mr. Basketball in Canada. One of the Raptors' top priorities is keeping him with the franchise well beyond the 2001-02 season, when his contract expires. They have a window from Aug. 1 to Oct. 31 to re-sign him. If they don't, he will become a free agent after the 2001-02 season. He and team officials prefer not to talk about the future just yet. Meanwhile, he and Iverson downplay their personal rivalry. Carter: "We try to do our thing as a team. I just try to fit in within the team concept and do what I need to do. I see what Allen is doing, but I'm not thinking about trying to outdo him personally." Iverson: "I can't accomplish anything without my teammates. I know that, they know that and everybody knows that. Vince is a great player, but he needs his teammates just like I need mine. The things my teammates do to help us win are just as important as the things I do. Toronto Raptors vs Boston Celtics Dec.16/07 Paul Pierce poured in 18 points to lead Boston 90-77 over Toronto on Sunday, stretching the Celtics' win streak to nine games and ending the Raptors' win streak at four. Kevin Garnett added 16 points and eight rebounds for the league-leading Celtics (20-2). Chris Bosh had 17 points and 13 rebounds to top Toronto (14-11), while Jamario Moon finished with 13 points and Kris Humphries finished with 12. Jose Calderon and Jason Kapono added eight points apiece. The Raptors played their third straight game without guard T.J. Ford, injured in a frightening fall Tuesday at Atlanta. The Celtics were missing Ray Allen (sore ankle), but turns out they didn't need their all-star guard. Boston led from the outset, thanks in large part to Toronto's woeful shooting. The Raptors shot just 29 per cent in the first half and 39 per cent on the afternoon and trailed by as many as 21 points in the second quarter. When Juan Dixon launched an airball midway through the second quarter, boos rained down from the Air Canada Centre crowd. The Celtics took a 71-54 lead into the fourth quarter. The Raptors opened the fourth with a 7-0 run, with a basket by Joey Graham pulling Toronto within 10 points and bringing the Air Canada Centre crowd to its feet. But the Celtics forced the fans back to their seats in a hurry with a 15-4 run, a three by Eddie House putting Boston back up by 21 points with just under four minutes left in the game, and the Celtics cruised to victory, marking their first nine-game win streak since March 16-31, 1993. The game was played while a snowstorm raged outside, and while the crowd was announced as a sellout at 19,800, numerous empty seats dotted the arena. The start of the second half was delayed 14 minutes due to a leak in the ACC roof. The Celtics, who are riding a remarkable turnaround after adding Garnett and Allen in the off-season, shot 49 per cent on the night. Toronto outrebounded the Celtics 42-35. Toronto's troubles started early Sunday. They shot just 24 per cent in the first quarter, and a three-pointer by James Posey with 37 seconds left gave the Celtics a 27-17 lead heading into the second. A three by Tony Allen stretched Boston's advantage to 21 points early in the second. But Toronto fought back, and when Bosh converted a free throw after a basket with five seconds left in the half, it cut the Celtics' lead to 50-36 at the break. Boston went on a 15-4 run in the third to take a 69-46 lead with 1:21 left in the quarter, and led 71-54 with one quarter left. NOTES: Boston has won all three matchups against Toronto this season. ... The Raptors don't play at home again until they host Detroit on Jan. 4. They play their next seven games on the road, including a gruelling stretch of four games in five nights. ... Gord Downie of Tragically Hip was at the game. AI 28 Blowout vs Raptors March 14, 2008 Denver 137, Toronto 105 DENVER, March 14 (AP) - Allen Iverson doesn't expect his fractured right ring finger to feel better anytime soon. Taking time off down the stretch, with the Denver Nuggets fighting for a playoff spot, simply isn't an option. So, he's learned to accept the pain. Not that the finger affected him Friday night. Iverson scored 28 points, going 9-of-12 from the floor, as the Nuggets blew out the Toronto Raptors 137-105 for their fifth straight win at home. The Denver guard hit seven straight attempts before missing a 3-pointer early in the third quarter. He also made all 10 of his free throws. "It felt OK before the game,'' Iverson said. "Now, it feels that much worse. It's throbbing like a heartbeat.'' Iverson, who hurt his finger against San Antonio a week ago, slips on a brace after every game per doctors orders. "If I didn't wear this brace to keep it straight after every game, there's a chance it will get worse and I'll have to get a pin,'' he said. Yet he refuses to wear anything on the finger in a game. "I'm just real superstitious,'' Iverson said. Nuggets coach George Karl would like to get Iverson some rest, but there's no time, not with the Nuggets currently on the outside glancing into the playoffs. They trail Golden State for the last spot. "I don't think we can lose a (player) because of an injury the rest of the way,'' Karl said. "It's the time of year where we have to play like it's a playoff circumstance. Everybody is hurting a little bit - A.I. is probably at the top of the list.'' The Nuggets' 137-point output is the second-most points the team has scored this season. They still have the NBA high mark for the season with a 138-point performance in a win at Seattle on Feb. 27. But Iverson was more impressed with Denver's defensive performance on Friday. The Nuggets held the Raptors to just 3-of-12 shooting from 3-point range. Toronto came in with the top percentage in the league at 41 percent. "If we come in and do what we what we got to do defensively, nine times out of 10 we're going to take care of business,'' Iverson said. "We weren't trying to beat them by 30, we just wanted to beat them convincingly.'' The Nuggets got their point across. "Last two games, we're not guarding anybody,'' said Sam Mitchell, whose team has now dropped three straight to start a five-game road trip. "We're not guarding anybody, and if you're not guarding anybody, you're going to come out of the game.'' Carmelo Anthony finished with 22 points, and Marcus Camby had 17 points and 10 rebounds for his 24th double-double of the season. Chucky Atkins came off the bench to finish with 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Atkins has missed a majority of the season after surgery to repair a right groin/abdominal strain. The Nuggets are trying to work him into the rotation. "He's a pro,'' Karl said. "He knows how to play, has a sense for the game.'' With a 30-point lead heading into final quarter, the starters were given the rest of the night off - except Iverson. He played moments into the quarter before being subbed out. The break would've been nice, but he doesn't think his finger will fully heal until this summer. "It's going to continue to bother me,'' he said. "But I'm not going to make any excuses, whether I play good or bad. I won't blame it on the finger.'' The Raptors were without star Chris Bosh, who missed his eighth straight game with a sore right knee. Anthony Parker scored 19 points and reserve Carlos Delfino added 16. "We were nonexistent today and Denver did whatever they wanted offensively,'' Parker said. The Nuggets scored 79 points in the first half, the most Toronto has allowed for a half in franchise history. The previous high was 78 which the Los Angeles Clippers scored on the Raptors in the second half on March 13, 1998. The Raptors also allowed a team-record 44 points in the first quarter. "This game was fun,'' said Camby, a former Raptors player. "You always want to beat your former teams, and the guys did a great job.'' Notes: The Nuggets are 13-2 against the Eastern Conference at the Pepsi Center this season. ... Before the game, Toronto announced it had filed a statement of claim against the Spanish Basketball Federation for nonpayment of insurance related Jorge Garbajosa's injury. Garbajosa underwent more surgery on his left leg and ankle on Dec. 11 in Baltimore. Tags: AI Allen Iverson Denver Nuggets Toronto Raptors Blowout NBA Crossover The Answer Carmelo Anthony Slam Dunk |

Toronto Raptors vs Milwaukee Bucks Nov.6/07 MILWAUKEE, Nov. 6 (AP) -- The Milwaukee Bucks didn't seem to miss their coach very much Tuesday night. Actually, they didn't miss much of anything. Even Desmond Mason's unorthodox jump hook shots were falling on a scalding shooting night for the Bucks, who shot 60.3 percent from the field in a runaway 112-85 victory over the Toronto Raptors. Mason finished 10-for-10 and had 21 points. "I got fouled on two of them and still made them,'' said Mason, who returned to Milwaukee as a free agent in the offseason. "Those were some lucky ones.'' The Bucks' offensive outburst came despite the absence of coach Larry Krystkowiak, who went to the hospital after his wife, Jan, went into labor with twins Tuesday afternoon. Krystkowiak, in his first full year as the Bucks' head coach after replacing Terry Stotts in the middle of last season, was there for the birth of healthy twin daughters at 7:42 p.m. By then, the Bucks had the game under control. "He got twins and a 30-point win,'' Bucks guard Mo Williams said. "What else can you ask for?'' Bucks assistant Tony Brown coached the team in Krystkowiak's absence, presiding over a steady stream of scoring that started early and never really let up. On defense, the Bucks held Toronto star Chris Bosh to one point and the Raptors' starting five to a total of 28. Bosh, who nursed a nagging left knee injury through the preseason, wasn't willing to chalk his struggles up to conditioning. "I am healthy enough to play basketball,'' Bosh said. "If I'm on the court, there is no excuse. I just have to keep playing.'' A team official offered Bosh a stat sheet after the game, but Bosh said he didn't need it. Raptors coach Sam Mitchell wasn't willing to nitpick Bosh's play. "I am not going to talk about an individual guy,'' Mitchell said. "It was a whole team effort, not just one guy.'' Juan Dixon led the Raptors with 20 points on a night that, combined with an overtime loss to Boston on Sunday, added up to a significant letdown from their 106-69 victory over New Jersey last Friday. "I told our guys we proved two things: We're good enough to win by 30, but we're also good enough to lose by 30,'' Mitchell said. "We have got to come out ready to play. Hopefully it was just one of those nights.'' For a while, it looked like the Bucks were going to have their best shooting night in more than two decades. Milwaukee was shooting over 65 percent with 5 minutes left in the game, but got sloppy at the end. Milwaukee hasn't shot 65 percent or higher for a game since a victory over Sacramento on Dec. 15, 1985. With Bosh limited to 10 minutes in the first half after committing two early fouls, the Bucks took their first double-figure lead with a 14-0 run late in the first quarter. Milwaukee led 59-39 after a three-point play by Andrew Bogut with 2:36 left in the second quarter. Toronto then went on a 9-2 run to close within 13, but Williams hit a jumper at the horn to give the Bucks a 63-48 lead. Milwaukee shot 67.5 from the field in the first half, including 76.2 percent in the first quarter. Bosh's only point came on a free throw with 5:22 left in the second quarter. He playing sparingly in the second half. Milwaukee went on a 17-3 run in the third quarter that included six points by Bucks rookie Yi Jianlian and was capped by Mason's 10th straight field goal attempt without a miss. Mitchell wished his team's defense had made life a little harder on Mason, but admitted that some of the shots were spectacular. "Some of the shots he hit - the fadeaway, one-handed jump shot, hook shot - you have got to give him credit,'' Mitchell said. Michael Redd added 17 points for the Bucks, while Williams scored 13, Yi and Bogut both had 12 and Bobby Simmons added 11. Bogut had 11 rebounds. Notes: Milwaukee G Charlie Bell bruised his right quadriceps in the second quarter but was able to return. ... The Raptors became the first team in NBA history to hit at least one 3-pointer in 700 straight games. They set the NBA record when the streak reached 595 in 2006. ... Vin Baker holds the Bucks' franchise record with a 13-for-13 shooting game in 1997. ... In a text message to the Bucks' PR staff, Krystkowiak said his wife and daughters were doing well after her delivery. Tags: Toronto Raptors vs Milwaukee Bucks Nov.6/07 |

Owls have at least two adaptations that aid them in achieving stealth. First, the dull coloration of an owl's feathers can render them almost invisible under certain conditions. Secondly, serrated edges on the leading edge of the owl's remiges, muffle the owl's wingbeats and allowing its flight to be practically silent. Some fish-eating owls, where this silence is of no evolutionary advantage, lack this adaptation. Elf owls also lack the feathers for silent flying. The Accipitrinae is the subfamily of the Accipitridae often known as the "true" hawks, including all members of Accipiter and the closely related genera Melierax, Urotriorchis, Erythrotriorchis and Megatriorchis. The large and widespread genus Accipiter includes goshawks, sparrowhawks, the Sharp-shinned Hawk and others. They are primarily woodland birds that hunt by sudden dashes from a concealed perch, with long tails, broad wings and high visual acuity facilitating this lifestyle. In light of recent genetic research, the kites of the traditional subfamily Milvinae may also belong to this group. Tags: Raptors barn owl red tail hawk goshawk snowy turkey vulture |

07-08 Preseason Toronto Raptors vs Chicago Bulls 18/10/07 Andrea Bargnani scored 19 points to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 92-82 pre-season victory over the Chicago Bulls on Friday. Juan Dixon added 17 points, while Rasho Nesterovic finished with 12, and newcomer Jamario Moon finished with 10, as the Raptors (3-2) played just their second game of this exhibition season against an NBA opponent. Aaron Gray scored 14 points to top the Bulls (2-2), while Andres Nocioni added 12. E-mail photo | Buy photos Jamario Moon had 10 points off the bench for the Raptors. (Ron Turenne/NBAE/Getty Images) The Raptors led by as much as 20 points Friday, and took a 71-54 lead into the fourth quarter at the Air Canada Centre. The Bulls rallied in the final frame and a basket by Viktor Khryapa cut Toronto's lead to 87-78 with 2:09 left to play. But a pair of free throws from Darrick Martin, then a three by Dixon with 29 seconds left secured the victory for Toronto. With only two pre-season games left to gauge his roster, head coach Sam Mitchell rested his starters for much of the night, and gave newcomers Moon and Carlos Delfino significant playing time. Moon, who's been toiling in the minor leagues for most of his career, most recently with the Albany Patroons of the Continental Basketball Association, displayed the athleticism he's known for. In a brief burst in the second quarter, Moon, who'd played just 15 minutes in the four previous exhibition games, scored first on a huge alley-oop dunk from Martin then on a driving layup, then went up for a big block on Tyrus Thomas. Delfino didn't fare as well, finishing with four points, four assists and three points on 1-for-7 shooting. The Raptors have 16 players in camp and have until the Oct. 29 deadline (6 p.m. ET) to set their roster of 15. Bargnani looked solid, three of his baskets coming from long range on a 7-for-12 shooting night. The sophomore forward has shot 54 per cent over five pre-season games, up considerably from the 43 per cent he shot in his rookie season. Raptors all-star forward Chris Bosh sat his third straight pre-season with a nagging left knee injury, while Jorge Garbajosa, who missed the tailend of last season with a devastating ankle injury, dressed but didn't play (Raptors medical staff said he was fine). Bulls guard Ben Gordon sat out with a sprained ankle, while forward Ben Wallace was listed as inactive. Bargnani connected on a trio of threes in the first quarter and the Raptors shot 59 per cent in the frame to race out to a 10-point lead. Toronto was up 28-19 heading into the second. With both teams going to their bench in the second quarter, the Raptors stretched their lead to 17-points with five minutes left on a layup by Moon, and led 47-33 at halftime. A basket by Dixon with just over four minutes left in the third put Toronto up by 20 and they held on to lead 71-54 with a quarter to go in the game. Toronto Raptors vs Houston Rockets Dec.9/07 The game was just 14 seconds old when Chris Bosh took flight Sunday to swat away a shot by Houston guard Steve Francis. Bosh made his presence felt early in his first appearance in six games, and went on to finish with 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead Toronto to a 93-80 win over the Rockets _ a reminder of how much the Raptors missed their all-star forward. ``It feels good,'' said Bosh, who played 41 minutes after missing five games with a strained groin. ``I wanted to come back when the time was right and I felt the time was right today. It was a big game, a game at home most importantly, and the past two days have been pretty good, my workouts.'' Kris Humphries added 16 points and nine boards for Toronto (11-10), while Carlos Delfino finished with 12 points, Anthony Parker had 11 and Jason Kapono finished with 10. Former Raptor Tracy McGrady topped the Rockets (11-10) with 23 points, while Yao Ming added 15. The Raptors' first-half shooting wasn't pretty Sunday, as they trailed by as many as 14 points and looked to be headed for their third consecutive loss. But Toronto tightened up on the defensive end, and then poured it on in the third quarter, outscoring the Rockets 28-11 in the frame and taking a 62-56 lead into the fourth. ``We just weren't knocking down shots, but the thing I love about this team is we stay with it. We continue to try, playing defence and keep taking those shots,'' said Bosh. ``We just have to continue to pat each other on the back when we miss a shot because if it's open, you miss it, so what? Let's play defence.'' Humphries led the way with 10 points in the final quarter in front of a capacity crowd of 19,800 at the Air Canada Centre, his basket with 4:29 left giving Toronto an 86-69 lead, their biggest of the game. On the previous play, Steve Francis was slapped with a flagrant foul after tackling Delfino in midair on a layup. The guard tried to cushion the blow for Delfino as the two players crashed to the court. The Rockets tried to rally in the final couple of minutes, but Bosh blocked a McGrady shot with 1:54 left, then scored on a turnaround jumper 30 seconds later to put the Raptors up by 14 and they held on to win, a decent result against the Texas team that had won five of its previous seven outings before arriving in Toronto. ``We came out (in the second half) and it was just a fight,'' Humphries said. ``We knew we had to come back and play the way we can play.'' Bosh missed five games with a strained groin, and his return was big for the Raptors, who went 2-3 without their all-star forward, the team leader in scoring and rebounding. ``Just his presence when he catches the ball and his no-look fake,'' said Raptors coach Sam Mitchell. ``It took (Bosh) awhile to figure it out, but once he got into the game, he was a big part of their run,'' said Houston's Shane Battier. The 6-10 forward would finish with four blocks and two steals. And while he looked rusty on the offensive end in the first half with just one field goal, he had a better second half and finished shooting 7-for-17. ``We feed off (Bosh's) energy and just him coming in, being aggressive, giving us that many minutes after having not played, it's great,'' Humphries said. The Raptors were still without sophomore forward Andrea Bargnani, who missed his fourth game in a row Sunday with a hyperextended knee. Despite their woeful shooting in the first quarter Sunday, they finished the afternoon shooting 42 per cent to Houston's 40 per cent. Toronto also outrebounded Houston 48-35. The Raptors did a decent job of containing Yao and McGrady, with Delfino and Anthony Parker pestering McGrady all game long. ``Carlos has been doing an excellent job on defence, he's a big body, he's bigger than he looks and he can really move his feet,'' Bosh said. The Raptors came out firing blanks Sunday, making just one of their first 10 field goals and quickly digging themselves a 16-2 deficit. Toronto finished the first quarter on a 14-6 run to cut Houston's advantage to 22-16 heading into the second. The Rockets opened the second quarter with a 12-6 run, a running jump shot from former Raptor Mike James giving Houston a 34-22 lead. The Rockets were up 45-34 at the break. A McGrady jump shot gave Houston a 12-point lead early in the third quarter, but Toronto rallied from that point, leading 62-56 with a quarter left to play. NOTES: The Raptors are at Atlanta to face the Hawks on Tuesday then return home to host the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. . . . Houston guard and former Raptor Rafer Alston missed his first game this season with a strained groin. . . . Retired NHL star Darryl Sittler was at the game. Preseason Toronto Raptors vs Washington Wizards 26/10/07 TORONTO, Oct. 26 (AP) -- Andrea Bargnani had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 98-64 rout of the Washington Wizards in the final preseason game for both teams Friday night. Jason Kapono scored 12 points for Toronto, while Juan Dixon and Carlos Delfino finished with 10 apiece. DeShawn Stevenson had 12 points for the Wizards. The Raptors led from the outset Friday, making it look easy against a sloppy Wizards squad, and took a 29-point lead into the fourth quarter. With a collection of bench players for both teams on the court for the final few minutes, the athletic Jamario Moon scored on an alley-oop dunk that brought the crowd to its feet with just under two minutes to play. Luke Jackson sunk a 3-pointer the next time down the floor to make it 96-64 for Toronto, and the Raptors cruised to an easy win to finish their exhibition schedule 5-2. The Wizards dropped to 4-4. Toronto has looked solid in its past two games, and has plenty of reason to be optimistic about the regular season, which starts Wednesday when the Raptors host the Philadelphia 76ers in their opener. Toronto shot 49 percent and held Washington to 37 percent shooting. The Raptors outrebounded the Wizards 47-30. Tags: Preseason Toronto Raptors vs Washington Wizards 26/10/07 |

Toronto Raptors vs Miami Heats Feb.4/08 Just when the Miami Heat thought they finally hit rock bottom, along came more indignity. Chris Bosh scored 24 points, Andrea Bargnani added 22 and the Toronto Raptors handed the hapless Heat their biggest loss of the season Monday night, a 114-82 debacle that was never a contest. The Raptors shot 66 per cent through the first three quarters, jumped out to a 23-point lead in the first quarter and wound up leading by as many as 39 in the final minutes. ``It would be hard for us to play much better,'' Toronto coach Sam Mitchell said. In the other locker room, the opposite sentiment existed. Dorell Wright scored 17 points, while Mark Blount and Dwyane Wade each added 12 for Miami, which has lost 19 of its past 20 overall, 10 of its past 11 at home. Not that many were around to see it; the arena that hosts the team with the NBA's worst record (9-37) had thousands of empty seats. ``Like my rookie year,'' Wade said. Chris Quinn scored 11 points and Alexander Johnson had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Miami, which committed 21 turnovers that led to 30 Toronto points. And afterward, Heat coach Pat Riley simply seemed at a loss for answers. ``We're going to have to do some evaluation here,'' Riley said. Anthony Parker scored 18 points for the Raptors. Jose Calderon had 11 points and 10 assists for Toronto, and Jason Kapono _ in his first trip back to Miami after the Heat chose not to re-sign him in the off-season _ scored 13 points on 6-for-10 shooting. Not only did the Raptors get a win, they also got guard T.J. Ford back. Ford, who hadn't played since colliding with Atlanta rookie Al Horford on Dec. 11, entered with 9:55 left in the second quarter. He finished with four points and four assists in 18 minutes, a driving dunk capping his night with 38.1 seconds left. ``I don't think people expected me to come in and do the things that I normally do,'' Ford said. The Raptors led 89-62 after three quarters, went up 100-66 on Kris Humphries' short hook with 9:13 left, and flirted with the Los Angeles Lakers' NBA-season-best mark of shooting 66.2 per cent from the floor until their reserves clanged a few shots down the stretch. ``We executed offensively, hit some shots,'' Parker said. ``Defensively we did a decent job in the first quarter and from there we just kept the pressure on them.'' During a stoppage in play late in the first quarter, Heat owner Micky Arison and his son Nicholas, sitting in their customary centre-court seats, were both laughing. Must have been one heck of a joke. They can't be finding humour in the on-court product. Miami's 23-point first-quarter deficit was a season-low, as the Raptors came out and hit 12 of their first 15 shots on the way to a 33-10 early lead. Bosh had 12 points in the quarter, matching Miami's team total, and the Raptors wound up taking a 21-point edge into the second. ``Too quick, too efficient, too ready, too good,'' Riley said. ``That was Toronto in the first quarter. An absolute clinic.'' Miami got within 53-41 when Wade found Ricky Davis for a layup with 2:26 left in the half, before the Raptors closed the period on a 6-0 spurt. And in the third, all comeback hopes ended. Bargnani and Parker combined to shoot 6-for-9 in the third, Toronto outscored Miami 30-21 in the period to take an 89-62 lead into the fourth. Wade got the rest of the night off, and the Raptors kept pouring it on. ``Terrible basketball,'' Wade said. ``Maybe it's getting away.'' Notes: Kapono made his first four shots. ... The Heat were without Montreal native Joel Anthony and ex-Raptor Luke Jackson (both with flu), while Shaquille O'Neal (hip) and Udonis Haslem (ankle) both remained out with injuries. Haslem won't travel on Miami's trip to Detroit and Philadelphia later this week. ... Wade's oldest son, Zaire, turned 6 Monday. Tags: Toronto Raptors vs Miami Heats Feb.4/08 |

Toronto Raptors vs Atlanta Hawks Jan.19/08 Chris Bosh believes he's playing the best basketball of his career right now. With yet another superb performance Friday night, it's tough to argue. Bosh poured in 35 points and added nine rebounds to lead the Toronto Raptors to their third straight victory at the Air Canada Centre on Friday, with a 89-78 win over the Atlanta Hawks. The Raptors all-star said his confidence is at the point now where he believes he can score every time he has the ball. ``I feel like that. I've been saying that for two days now. . . well, three or four or five days now,'' Bosh said with a laugh. ``I'm feeling good, I feel very confident, I think everything is just opening up for me. I'm finally at 100 per cent.'' Anthony Parker finished with 18 points in the game that marked the first meeting between the two teams since T.J. Ford suffered a neck injury in Atlanta on Dec. 11. Jose Calderon added 13 points and nine assists for the Raptors (22-18), who won for the fifth time in the last six games. The Raptors took a 67-60 advantage into the fourth quarter of the back-and-forth affair, but broke the game open with a solid performance in the final few minutes, holding off a brief Hawks rally. The young Hawks pulled to within two points with just over five minutes left in the game after a three-pointer by Tyronn Lue. Parker responded with a three _ one of four he had on the night _ and Jamario Moon followed followed with a slam dunk to stretch Toronto's lead back to seven. ``They made some tough shots,'' said Joe Johnson, who topped the Hawks with 25 points. ``I think pretty much every three they hit in the fourth had a hand in their face. I thought we played pretty good defence, they just made tough shots.'' Moon had a huge block on a shot by Johnson the next time down the court, and then Bosh was fouled on a layup and connected on the free throw to put Toronto up by 10 with 3:30 to go. It was all Raptors to the final buzzer, as Calderon had two baskets and Bosh added a layup to pad the lead in front of a capacity crowd of 19,800 at the Air Canada Centre. Josh Smith added 24 points for Atlanta (17-19). The night was yet another in a string of solid performances by Bosh, who has been improving every game out after his early-season struggles _ the product of a foot and knee injury. Bosh shot 12-for-18 on Friday, and went 11-for-14 from the free throw line. Mitchell joked that he didn't want to talk about how well Bosh is playing for fear of jinxing it. But Parker would. ``I'm voting for him for the all-star game. I got a T-shirt ready, I'm going to bring it out,'' Parker said. ``It was one of those games when I looked at the end of the game and he had 35 points. He does so many things out there, and he exerts so much energy. ``He's just put us on his back the last couple of weeks not, and that's a huge reason why we've been able to string a couple of wins together.'' What pleases Mitchell most about Bosh's play is his ability to find his teammates when he draws a double-team. ``Chris does not have to score the ball, he just has to command a double-team,'' Mitchell said. ``Chris is just trusting his teammates and getting the ball out.'' Toronto Raptors vs Portland Trailblazers Dec.19/07 Brandon Roy wasn't going to let a bout with the flu mess with the streak. Roy was ailing, but didn't play like it. He had 25 points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead the Portland Trail Blazers to their ninth straight win, a 101-96 victory over the Toronto Raptors Wednesday night. "I was hurting a little bit, but we're doing something special right now so I didn't want that to get in the way,'' Roy said. Roy, the Western Conference player of the week for the past two weeks, was taking little time to savour the win, let alone ponder his health. "Nine is great but we're looking forward to 10,'' Roy said. Roy and the Blazers will get their chance on Friday when they host the Denver Nuggets. Portland, 11-3 at home and 14-12 overall, has won nine straight games for the first time since they won 12 in a row during the 2001-02 season. It was Roy's eighth game during the streak with 20 or more points. "He's not just having a hot streak,'' coach Nate McMillan said. "What we're seeing out of him is what he is capable of doing.'' After trailing the entire second half, the Blazers evened it at 87 on Travis Outlaw's free throws with 6:08 to go. Roy followed up with a layup to put Portland ahead. The Blazers held on to the slim lead, but Toronto appeared to gain momentum when Jose Calderon's layup narrowed it to 97-93 with 1:47 left. The Blazers deliberately slowed the pace with the lead, and went up 99-94 on James Jones' free throws when he was fouled by Jason Kapono with 11.7 seconds left. Chris Bosh's dunk got Toronto closer, but Jones was again fouled and made both of his shots for the final margin with 8.4 seconds to go. LaMarcus Aldridge, the Blazers' leading scorer and rebounder, returned after missing the last five games because of a heel injury. He had 15 points and seven rebounds, and Martell Webster also scored 15 points. Portland outscored Toronto 25-13 in the third quarter. Calderon had 18 points and nine assists for the Raptors, while Chris Bosh added 18 points and 11 rebounds. The Blazers beat visiting New Orleans 88-76 on Monday. The Raptors were coming off an 80-77 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night, the first of a seven-game road trip. "We didn't play the best game and we were on a second game of a back-to-back,'' Calderon said. "But we have to look at the positive side and try to work on that.'' The Raptors, winners of five of their previous six games, threatened several times in the first half to pull away, but couldn't extend the lead to more than double digits. The main obstacle was Roy, who was 6-for-7 from the field for 16 first-half points. Anthony Parker's three-pointer with 3:26 to go before the break put Toronto ahead 50-42, but Aldridge's jumper and Roy's three-pointer narrowed it again for the Blazers. Toronto stayed in front to lead 56-51 at the half. The Blazers were able to keep it close through the third quarter, and came within 76-74 on Webster's slam dunk. But then Toronto began to pull away, Parker hit a three-pointer before Kris Humphries added a hook shot and a layup to make it 83-76. Roy didn't practice Tuesday because of the flu. Over the course of the streak, he is averaging 24.2 points. "Brandon's playing at a level that probably only 10 other people in the league are playing at right now,'' Blazers' general manager Kevin Pritchard said. Notes: Toronto's T.J. Ford missed his fifth straight game because of a head injury sustained Dec. 11 against Atlanta. ... Several members of the Oregon State Beavers football team attended the game. The Beavers are preparing to play Maryland in the Emerald Bowl on Dec. 28. ... Also at the game was Boston Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, who is from Madras, Ore., and attended Oregon State. ... Toronto Raptors vs Charlotte Bobcats Mar.2/08 hris Bosh, in his nice-looking suit on the bench, had as many second-chance points as his Toronto Raptors teammates. Zero. In a listless performance against one of the NBA's worst teams, the Bosh-less Raptors gave up 30 points to Charlotte's Jason Richardson, and allowed the Bobcats to dominate the glass in a 110-98 win on Sunday. With their top scorer and rebounder sidelined for perhaps a week with a sore right knee, the Raptors gave up 32 second-chance points. The Bobcats had a 50-37 rebounding advantage in snapping a five-game losing streak. Toronto hardly looked like a team trying to secure home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. ``We didn't take the team lightly, because if we took them lightly they wouldn't have shot 43 per cent,'' Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. ``The tough things, we didn't do them. We didn't box out. They beat us up on the glass. There's nothing else to say.'' Richardson, taking over the brunt of the scoring with Gerald Wallace out indefinitely following a severe concussion, hit 10 of 24 shots and all seven free throws. Rookie Jared Dudley added a career-high 17 points and 10 rebounds for Charlotte, which won for only the second time in 14 games. ``We're going to continue to fight,'' coach Sam Vincent said. Anthony Parker scored 24 points and Bosh's fill-in, Rasho Nesterovic, added 16 points, but 13 came in the first quarter. Andrea Bargnani also failed to step up his game with Toronto's three-time All-Star in street clothes, finishing with six points and five rebounds on 2-of-8 shooting. ``I think we were soft tonight, very soft,'' centre Primoz Brezec said. ``We've got to man up a little bit. Our focus was not there.'' The Bobcats, who essentially acknowledged they are no longer in the playoff hunt when they waived veteran guard Jeff McInnis on Friday, used a young lineup to dominate the second half. Dudley played 36 minutes and his three-pointer with 3:43 left ended Toronto's comeback hopes. Matt Carroll, starting for Wallace, scored 15 points. Even second-round pick Jermareo Davidson had four points in 15 minutes. ``We're just playing out there,'' Richardson said of the Bobcats' carefree attitude. ``We're undermanned, so we're just going out there and playing for pride right now.'' It was an embarrassing night for the Raptors, two nights after Bosh limped off the floor in the fourth quarter of Friday's loss to Indiana. The Raptors didn't appear to miss him in building an 11-point first-half lead, only to implode after halftime. Charlotte had an 18-2 run and outscored the Raptors 34-21 in the third quarter. Raymond Felton, back as the primary point guard with McInnis jettisoned, added 17 points, eight assists and one turnover. ``Ray was really aggressive of getting the ball and pushing it in transition,'' Vincent said. ``That really created some real nice buckets for us.'' The Bobcats built the lead to 84-70 in the first minute of the fourth quarter. They held on thanks to the rebounding domination, led by Emeka Okafor's 15 boards to go with 14 points. ``It's not the first time this has happened,'' Mitchell said of the rebounding discrepancy. ``It's happened to us too often. I understand that's a weakness of our basketball team. But that's no excuse. ``You've got to put a body and you've got to go and get the basketball.'' Notes: Wallace watched from the bench, the first time he was around the team since he was knocked unconscious against Sacramento on Feb. 22. Coach Sam Vincent said Wallace is scheduled to undergo more tests this week and hopes he'll be cleared to play soon. ... Vincent said there was no urgency to fill McInnis' roster spot. ... Raptors C Primoz Brezec, who criticized Vincent before the game for not using him properly, had four points and four fouls in 11 minutes against his former team. Toronto Raptors vs New Jersey Nets Apr.11/08 Carlos Delfino had 24 points to lead the Toronto Raptors 113-85 over New Jersey on Friday, officially knocking the Nets out of post-season contention. Chris Bosh added 21 points and nine rebounds for the Raptors (40-39), who nabbed the No. 6 spot in the Eastern Conference with the win, the team's second in a row. [ ] T.J. Ford and Andrea Bargnani added 14 points apiece, while Jose Calderon had 11 points and 10 assists, and Rasho Nesterovic, Anthony Parker and Jose Calderon pitched in with 10 points each. Former Raptor Vince Carter scored 21 points to top the Nets (32-47), who will sit out the playoffs for the first time since 2001. With three games to go in the regular season, and on the tailend of a dreadful few weeks, the Raptors were eyeing the No. 6 spot in the East to avoid facing Detroit in the first round of the playoffs, plus looking to head into the post-season with some precious momentum. Toronto went into Friday one game behind Philadelphia, which lost 85-76 to Philadelphia, for the No. 6 seed. If the season ended now, the Raptors would face Orlando in the opening round. The Nets led for as much as 13 points in an ugly first quarter for Toronto, but the Raptors tightened up their defence and had pulled to within two points by the break, and then busted the game open with a superb third quarter. Ford contributed 12 points in the frame as the Raptors poured in 37 points and headed into the fourth with an 83-67 lead. The Nets managed to pull within 13 points in the fourth, but that was as close as they would get. The Raptors killed any glimmering hope for the Nets with an offensive outpouring, a reverse layup by Calderon with 4:23 left giving Toronto a 25-point lead, bringing the capacity crowd of 19,800 to its feet. They would lead by as much as 27 points before the final whistle blew. The game came two days after Bosh called out the crowd for being too quiet, and posted a video on YouTube imploring the fans to get behind the team. He needn't have said anything _ for this game at least. The crowd is never quiet when Carter is in town, and Friday was no different. Carter, who spent the first six years of his career in Toronto before requesting a trade during the 2004-05 season, was booed during introductions, and whenever he handled the ball. He appeared perturbed by the jeering as the game went on and when the crowd chanted ``V.C. sucks'' as he drained a pair of free throws in the third quarter, he blew the fans a kiss as he ran back up the court. Toronto had lost to the Nets 99-90 in New Jersey last week, part of a three-game losing streak that the Raptors snapped Wednesday with a win over Milwaukee. Bosh shot 7-for-12 on the night, and played with plenty of passion, while Delfino had the hot hand, connecting on five three-pointers. The Raptors shot 49 per cent, and outrebounded the Nets 47-39. The first quarter was ugly for the Raptors, who allowed the Nets to shoot 61 per cent and take a 13-point lead. New Jersey led 30-18 heading into the second. The Raptors fell behind by 14 points early in the second, but Delfino drained a three-pointer that sparked a 14-2 run that pulled Toronto to within a point. The Nets led 48-46 at the break. New Jersey trailed by just a point midway through the third, but the Raptors outscored the visitors 19-5 to the end of the quarter to lead 83-67 with one quarter left. NOTES: The Raptors are in Detroit to face the Pistons on Sunday in a possible playoff preview, then head home to host Miami on Monday before wrapping up the regular season Wednesday at Chicago. . . Rasho Nesterovic has scored in double figures in 16 consecutive games. . . Carter had scored a total of 44 points his previous three visits to the ACC _ all of them losses. Toronto Raptors vs New Jersey Nets Feb.13/08 All-star Chris Bosh had 27 points and Jose Calderon added 22 points and 12 assists as the Toronto Raptors entered the all-star break on a high, trouncing the undermanned New Jersey Nets 109-91 Wednesday night. Jamario Moon scored 15 points and Andrea Bargnani 14 as Toronto (28-23) ended a three-game home losing streak. Bosh, Moon, Jason Kapono and Bargnani will represent the Raptors during this weekend's all-star festivities in New Orleans. Richard Jefferson and former Raptors superstar Vince Carter scored 15 points apiece as New Jersey (23-30) saw its three-game winning streak come to an end. The Raptors showed little mercy in the Nets' first game without all-star point guard Jason Kidd, who was on the verge of being traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a blockbuster deal that would send the 34-year-old back to the city where he began his career. Kidd was in Toronto with the team but didn't speak to reporters before the game. Carter gave the Air Canada Centre crowd plenty to jeer about in an uninspiring 5-for-15 shooting performance. In what has become an ACC tradition, the once-beloved, now-reviled swingman was booed lustily every time he touched the ball. The largest cheer of the night came late in the second quarter, when Carter fouled Andrea Bargnani beyond the three-point line and was given a technical foul for arguing the call. The Raptors built a 13-point cushion through one quarter and were never seriously challenged all night as they posted their second lopsided win of the season over the Nets. Toronto, which fell to New Jersey in six games in the opening round of last year's playoffs, has outscored the Nets by 56 points in two games this year. Matched up against backup point guard Marcus Williams, Calderon controlled the tempo from the start. Six of his eight first-quarter points came on layups, and he added three assists _ highlighted by alley-oop gems to Moon and Bosh _ as Toronto built a double-digit lead less than eight minutes in. Bosh had a game-high 10 points, Moon added seven and the Raptors shot 50 per cent to take a 30-17 advantage through one quarter. New Jersey closed to within eight after Darrell Armstrong stole an inbounds pass and hit a three-pointer, but Toronto promptly restored its double-digit cushion on a Bargnani three and back-to-back layups by Calderon. Bosh finished the half 7-for-8 for 18 points and Calderon chipped in with 16 as the Raptors led 62-41 at the break. Moon provided some electricity in what was an otherwise humdrum second half, converting an alley-oop pass from Calderon and adding an emphatic dunk moments later in a possible warmup for Saturday night's slam dunk contest. Moon had eight points in the quarter, and the Raptors held a 92-63 lead through three. Notes: The trade, when finalized, will send Kidd, swingman Antoine Wright and forward Malik Allen to the Mavericks for point guard Devin Harris, veteran Jerry Stackhouse and reserves DeSagana Diop, Devean George and Maurice Ager. ... Raptors vs Magic Playoff Round1 Game3 Apr.24/08 With a quick start and quality point guard play, the Toronto Raptors turned the tables on the Orlando Magic. T.J. Ford scored 21 points, Jose Calderon had 18 points and 13 assists, and the Raptors beat the Magic 108-94 on Thursday night, cutting Orlando's lead to 2-1 in their first-round playoff series. "That was the most important game of the season so far and we played like it," Chris Bosh said. "We stepped up to the challenge." Ford shot 2-for-17 in the first two games of the series, but looked confident and comfortable in this one, splitting time almost equally with Calderon. "The way those guys played reminded me of just how good those two can be when they're both on their game," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. Dwight Howard had 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Magic, while Hedo Turkoglu added 26 points and Rashard Lewis scored 19. "Right from the get-go, the Raptors were outstanding," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "Their point guard play was phenomenal and probably the key to the game for them." Jamario Moon had 11 points and 10 rebounds in his return to the starting lineup for Toronto, while Bosh and Jason Kapono each scored 15 points and Anthony Parker 10. The Raptors finished 12-for-34 from 3-point range and set playoff highs for points in a game and a half (61). Game 4 is Saturday afternoon in Toronto. "We're halfway to our goal, which is to get back to 2-2," Ford said. "We have to take care of business again on Saturday." Keith Bogans scored 12 for the Magic, who trailed by as many as 23. Orlando guard Jameer Nelson collapsed with back spasms as he was walking back the locker room after the game and was seen writhing on the floor in pain. "He got hit in the back defending a pick-and-roll," Van Gundy said. "He kept playing, but as he walked off the court, he got a back spasm and a bad one." Van Gundy said Nelson was up and walking again minutes after the incident. Hampered by foul trouble, Nelson went 2-for-8 and scored six points, all in the fourth quarter. Toronto was unable to overcome double-digit deficits in the first quarter of Games 1 and 2, and was determined to start better up north. With Moon back in the starting lineup in place of Rasho Nesterovic, the Raptors had the energy they needed. Down 6-2 early, Toronto responded with a 16-3 run over the next four minutes. Moon capped it with a breakaway dunk, forcing Orlando to call a timeout trailing 18-9. "Just like I've been doing all season, I wanted to come out and be aggressive and try to bring energy to my teammates," Moon said. "I wanted to come out and get on the glass and get my hands on any ball that I could and make it tough on the guy I was guarding." With his teammates struggling, Howard's inside dominance kept Orlando close. He had 13 points and five rebounds in the opening frame, but Toronto led 28-20 after 12 minutes. Besides Howard, the Magic shot 3-for-15 in the opening quarter. The Raptors pulled further away in the second, holding Howard to just two points and finishing the half with a flurry sparked by Ford. "He's a very, very good player and he played like it today," Bosh said of Ford. The diminutive guard was on the court for just 3 1/2 minutes in the second but made the most of them, scoring 11 points. Ford drained jumpers on three straight trips and Bargnani added a 3-pointer as the Raptors reeled off a 9-0 run, pushing their lead to 56-35. Bosh didn't make his first field goal until a breakaway dunk with 12 seconds left in the first half, putting Toronto up 61-38. Carlos Arroyo replied with a layup to make it 61-40 at the break. "The game was pretty well decided at halftime," Van Gundy said. Lewis opened the third with back-to-back 3-pointers and had 12 points in the quarter as Orlando outscored Toronto 29-19, cutting the gap to 80-69 heading into the fourth. Toronto Raptors vs Minnesota Timberwolves Feb.10/08 he Toronto Raptors learned their lesson about overlooking so-called lesser teams. Two nights after allowing the last-place Los Angeles Clippers to rally and win in Toronto, the Raptors clearly didn't overlook the Minnesota Timberwolves. Andrea Bargnani scored 16 points and Jose Calderon had 15 points and 10 assists for his second consecutive double-double to help the Raptors beat the Wolves 105-82 on Sunday night. ``We can't just show up and expect to win,'' all-star Chris Bosh said. ``Sometimes you look at some teams' records and you just think you are going to show up and get crowned the winner. It doesn't work like that.'' With five Raptors in double figures and their top two point guards combining for 23 assists, Toronto was a model of offensive efficiency. The Raptors drained the life out of the Wolves and their fans with a perimeter-oriented offence _ their swishes amplified through the building by the backboard microphone. ``(Friday) was a tough game,'' Bargnani said. ``We played good almost the whole game, then lost at the end on very bad luck. We did a good job to stay focused as they came back today.'' Calderon _ who's had at least 10 assists in five of his last six games _ and T.J. Ford combined for more assists than the Timberwolves as a whole. Bosh added 14 points for the Raptors, and Ford had seven points and 13 assists, his highest totals since returning to the lineup from injury Feb. 4. ``We just tried to get everyone involved,'' said Calderon, who has 19 double-doubles this season. ``We just tried to find the wide open guys and not force it. ... Everybody made the extra pass, that's how we beat this team tonight.'' As in Friday's loss, the Raptors built an early lead before allowing the Wolves to pull even in the second quarter. This time, though, Toronto responded with timely buckets and aggressive defence. Antoine Walker's three-pointer with 1:18 to play in the second quarter tied it at 45. But Calderon answered with two threes to swing the momentum that Toronto carried into the next half. ``Calderon knocking down shots like that is a big momentum changer for them,'' Corey Brewer said. ``They just kept adding it; kept getting momentum and knocking shots down.'' Al Jefferson scored 18 points for Minnesota, which has played well as of late despite owning the league's second-worst record. Jefferson entered the game averaging 30.2 points and 15 rebounds in his last six games in Minneapolis. But Toronto threw multiple defenders at Minnesota's big man, and the Wolves offence sputtered two nights after taking league-leading Boston down to the final seconds. Jefferson and Marko Jaric were 13-for-22 from the floor, but the rest of the Wolves went 19-for-56. ``I didn't see this coming,'' Wolves coach Randy Wittman said. ``I thought our guys would respond after even a tough loss like that.'' The Raptors shot just over 50 per cent from the floor. They have shot at least 50 per cent in their last four wins since Jan. 25. In their three losses, they've shot under 44 per cent. After trading big runs in the first half, Toronto established control in the third quarter, outscoring Minnesota 20-8 to build a comfortable lead that the Wolves never threatened the rest of the way. Notes: Timberwolves G Rashad McCants left in the second quarter with a sprained right ankle and is day-to-day. ... Toronto is 12-2 when shooting better than 50 per cent. ... The Raptors have won seven consecutive games against Minnesota dating back to 2005, representing their longest current win streak against an opponent. ... Former Timberwolves C Rasho Nesterovic scored eight points for Toronto. Nesterovic, who Minnesota drafted with the 17th pick in the 1998 draft, will play a back-to-back against his other former team _ San Antonio _ on Monday. Toronto Raptors vs LA Clippers Feb.08/08 The Toronto Raptors' game Friday had all the makings of an entertaining affair _ the Raptors were playing their 1,000th regular-season game in franchise history, T.J. Ford was making his triumphant return to the Air Canada Centre, and the Raptors were facing a seemingly weaker opponent in the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers thought otherwise. Corey Maggette scored 35 points to lead Los Angeles to a 102-98 win over Toronto, spoiling the Raptors' celebration of their milestone game, plus Ford's first game back at the ACC after missing eight weeks. "They just beat us," said Raptors coach Sam Mitchell. "They just beat us, they deserved to win and we did not deserve to win. We are not good enough to just look at team's records and show up and play." Chris Bosh had 29 points and 12 rebounds before fouling out with 17 seconds left to top Toronto (26-22), while Jamario Moon finished with 16 points, and Andrea Bargnani and Carlos Delfino had 14 apiece. Jose Calderon had 11 points and 14 assists. Ford, who was welcomed back with a standing ovation from the ACC crowd when he entered the game to start the second quarter, finished with two points and six assists in 13 minutes. "It definitely felt good," Ford said of the warm welcome. "I was just excited to be able to play in front of our fans, it definitely made me feel good inside to know I'm appreciated, and I just wanted to come out and give them as much excitement as I could and show them I'm back to myself." The popular point guard played Monday in Miami in his first appearance after missing 24 games with a neck injury suffered in a frightening crash than left him questioning his future in the game. The return of Ford, though, was the lone bright spot in an otherwise dismal game. "We just didn't play good defence today, plain and simple," said Bosh. "We can't win many games not playing good defence so we have to take this as a learning experience. Defence wins a lot of games, and I think if we had played just a little better, it really would have helped us out." The matchup seemed a winnable one for the well-rested Raptors, who were coming off a 114-82 romp over the Heat in Miami on Monday, and were facing a struggling Clippers squad that's floundering in fourth last in the Western Conference. The Clippers (16-31) were also missing starting guard Sam Cassell, who was serving a one-game suspension for a flagrant foul against Boston's Rajon Rondo, and played all but the first quarter without forward Tim Thomas, who left the game before the start of the second with a sore lower back. The Raptors led by as many as 12 points in the third quarter and looked headed for victory. But the Clippers rallied late in the quarter and took a 78-77 lead into the fourth. The Clippers sunk their teeth in, holding the Raptors scoreless for more than four minutes to start the fourth, and led 87-77 before Bosh finally connected on a pair of free throws with 7:43 left. Bosh converted a three-point play with 49 seconds left to cut the Clippers' lead to 98-96, but a miss by Calderon and then Parker sealed the victory for Los Angeles. "We didn't do the things we have been doing, we didn't move the baksetball as well as we have been and we doidn't guard," Mitchell said. To make matters worse for Toronto, the Clippers practically gift-wrapped the game for the Raptors, coughing up 29 points on 21 turnovers. "It was a good game for us, our guys played really hard," said Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy. "We turned the ball over a lot, but I think in the second half we did a much better job defensively. We got a big lift from our rookie Al Thornton." Thornton and Cuttino Mobley finished with 19 points each, Thornton scoring nine points in the fourth quarter and beating Bosh a couple of times on drives to the basket.
