Google Developer Day Sydney - James Macgill Mapplets: Making Maps Mashups Discoverable Presented by James Macgill Thousands of Google Maps mashups have been created in the two years since we released the Google Maps API, but most of these sites are islands of information and few users know that they exist. We will discuss an approach to make these sites more discoverable by users around the world. More details will be provided at Developer Day. James Macgill holds a PhD from the University of Leeds in the UK where he worked on innovative spatial analysis techniques. James subsequently worked as deputy director of the Centre for Computational Geography at Leeds on a variety of geospatial research initiatives. Among those was the foundation of the open source GeoTools library, a Java GIS toolkit for developing standards compliant solutions which now powers a number of other open source geospatial projects including GeoServer and uDIG. Before moving to Google in 2005, James was a Senior Researcher at the Penn State GeoVISTA Center, working on research in geovisualization methods and tools. Sydney 2000 OC - Cathy Freeman Lights The Olympic Cauldron The biggest moment of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games opening ceremony. An innovative way of lighting the Olympic Flame to the cauldron by Atlanta 1996 Olympic silver medalist in the women's 400m event at the time: Cathy Freeman. She went on to win the Olympic gold medal in these Games in the same women's 400m event. Note: Very sorry for the poor quality of the picture near the end of this clip. The VCR tape I had this recorded on was showing its age and I was concerned that I was going to lose this entire show because of that. I know that there is other YouTube uploads of this scene. You may want to look them up for better quality than this clip. At the end of this clip, fireworks go off at one of Stadium Australia, as the cauldron itself was assisted mechanically, to officially conclude the opening ceremony of these Games. Google Developer Day Sydney - Aaron Boodman Google Gears: Building Better AJAX applications Presented by Aaron Boodman AJAX applications are at the core of web development, providing both opportunities and challenges. We'll be discussing some of the ways we can address those challenges in this session. More details will be provided at Developer Day. Aaron Boodman started life as a musician, a mistake he rectified early to the delight of his teachers and dormmates. Suddenly finding himself with more time on his hands, he taught himself to program and began experimenting with and writing about the collection of technologies that became known as "AJAX" many years later. His work from 2000-2001 continues to be referenced and reused today in modern JavaScript toolkits. More recently, he is the creator of Greasemonkey, a popular browser extension that allows people to "mash up" websites using JavaScript. At Google he works on experimental web technology, and occasionally lends a hand on UI for products like Gmail, Reader, and Blogger. Tags: gdd07au gdd07 google developer speaker aaron boodman ajax |

Coldplay - Yellow Live in Sydney 2003 Coldplay - Yellow Live in Sydney 2003 Early performance without yellow balloon, but it's cant deny it as a great show. information on allmusic.com Live 2003 celebrates Coldplay's worldwide tour in support of their stunning second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head. The band impressed the masses this time out, and once again it delivers a resilient, bright package of glorious rock & roll. Capturing an evening at Sydney's Horden Pavillion, the momentum and passion behind such songs as "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" and "Politik" confirm Coldplay's place in music while also illustrating their power as a live act. Live 2003 is clean-cut and solid from start to finish. The meticulous production of the dozen-song set list itself is exemplary of the band's first two efforts; therefore doing a live album such as this proves Coldplay's brilliance. From the sonic richness of B-side "One I Love" to the band's more merry singles like "Yellow" and "Clocks," Live 2003 is a delightful listening experience. Tags: Coldplay Yellow Live in Sydney 2003 |

Men's 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay Sydney Olympics 2000 The greatest swimming race in history. Going into the 2000 Olympics the Americans had never lost the event and anchor leg swimmer Gary Hall Jr predicted before the games that the Australians would be 'smashed like guitars'. Flight Simulator X - Sydney To Los Angeles - 12 Hour Flight PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE COMMENTING: One of my longest flights so far, this is a Qantas Boeing 747 flying 6,500 miles from Kingsford Smith International (YSSY) to Los Angeles International (KLAX). I started very early in the morning and got to LAX around 1:00 or so in the morning. On the way there, I reached some islands, but most was over water. I recorded it with Fraps. And unfortunately I forgot the landing lights... I have no clue why... And yes... I did actually fly all 12 hours, but I wasn't sitting at the computer all the time. I was gone most of it unless I had to record or fix my flight path. It did actually take 12 hours to fly this flight.. I don't know why I'm getting so many people asking me if it really takes that long... so yes, it does. For the clip with the "sped up 16x" I filmed the clips at real time and then later sped them up in Windows Movie Maker. And yes, I spelled Los Angeles wrong as well as put the Cruise Altitude as 34,00 Ft instead of 34,000 Ft in the beginning of the video... can't really change that now though, sorry. This is the Deluxe Edition of FSX, although it does not really effect anything because the Deluxe Edition only comes with a few more planes and missions. You can get Flight Simulator X from pretty much any electronics store like Best Buy and I think you might even be able to download it. The island, or archipelago as it's actually called at 5:00 was just randomly recorded because I thought it looked cool. I didn't know anything about it nor did I care, but after everyone asked me about it I researched it and I found that it is most likely the archipelago of Tuvalu or at least something near there. The music is "Children of the Sandstorm". Tell me if you have any other questions, and I'll most likely answer them. Enjoy! Hey everybody... I had no clue that THIS video would be the most popular of my fsx videos... but I guess it was... This isn't even my favorite, though. Here are some of my newer ones: New York to Hong Kong: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QTQpCqrtmw Sydney to Singapore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u41lOxMlqPw Washington DC to Los Angeles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoCkiLSB3b4 Toulouse to New Delhi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8ivxmpEATM And if you want to learn how to download planes (onto Windows XP), go to this vid I made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Uuf3_OitR4 Tags: FSX X-Plane Sydney Los Angeles Airport Flying Crash Plane Qantas 747 Big Fast 34000 Cruise Altitude Landing Land Takeoff |
