Frank Zappa's Last Interview (TRANSCRIBED IN INFO BOX) Frank Zappa's last television interview. He is talking about his friend Nicolas Slonimsky, 1993. Sorry about the poor quality. Some of you have commented that you find it difficult to hear what is being said. Here's what Frank says: "He's just a brilliant mind. And a very warm-hearted spirit. And these are qualities not often found linked together in human beings. And... I just liked him. One of the things I really liked about him was his wardrobe. I always was impressed with his wardrobe from the first time he came over, because he had that look. He had the look of a real guy from that era, you know what I mean? The right kind of shoes, the right kind of tweed, rumple, worn for a thousand years. Kinda... sport coat, pants too short. He was wonderful. He was a fully developed character." Nicolas Slonimsky (1894-1995) was a musicologist, conductor, composer, author and much more. Check out his lectures on archive.org or simply do a google search. DN/SR: It's cool cause a lot of our fans are ... rap music, a lot of our fans are like graphic rap artists,... so it like reaches out to a more bigger audience than like most rap people try to get to. Our audience I think is a lot funner, it's not like serious rappers we're just partying and having fun and when it comes down to it, I think people just want to have fun DV: I'm fun los angeles myself, how do you feel like the element of like bringing southern California out to like big cities? DN/SR: Yeah the people like everybody kinda has this fascination with L.A. you know Like Hollywood and everything so ... I think that's why also I think our music definitely paints a picture of Hollywood so I think it's cool to bring (inaudible) you know the Hollywood scene, so what we bring is the Hollywood scene by way of rapping as a (formal or familiar) way you know you know to talk of (you know what I mean) talking to just in a different format you know DV: Were you part of the creative process, making the stuff DN/SR: Yeah Yeah we all write together I produce the beats like on "My Dick" It all started off, when I met Andre and Mickey 6 years ago and I produce the beats and did some rapping just for fun and they said did you want to join the band and rap in the band and I said okay, cause I never (inaudible) I was just the producer you know and now I'm just having fun. DV: So what's next for you guys? DN/SR: (exhales cigarette) Just the rest of the tour we just (go) with the Chili Peppers in Europe which is huge for me cause I think we got like 5 shows with the chili Peppers and now we're just going to do our tour and just keep doing our shows and uh whatever happens, I'm just enjoying the ride.
