Artistic Director, Mme. Altynay Asylmuratova, formerly prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Ballet (Kirov) introduces the class by highlighting the strong influence that Ballet Mistress Agrippina Vaganova produced in the Dance Method utilized by the greatest dancers in Ballet History. The class is performed in the classroom where Agrippina Vaganova taught and Marius Petipa created his most magnificent ballets. This DVD is not interactive but rather a video stream with no chapters. It is subtitled and filmed in Russia in a documentary style. The only choreography created by Vaganova, a pas de deux for the ballet "Diana & Actaeon" is presented at the end of the film. Part 10 Kirov Vaganova Gala Lopatkina Lil Humped Back Horse Uliana Lopatkina is the second girl to dance in this Pas De Qautre from the Marius Petipa choreographed ballet, The Little Humped Back Horse. The music is by the Russian composer, Pugni, who was used several times by Petipa for his ballets. All four ballerinas in this performance were 6th year students of the Vaganova School and their teacher was Natalia Dudinskaya, one the most famous ballerinas in Kirov hostory and wife of Konstantin Segeyev, who had been director of both the ballet company and the Vaganova School. 1989 Live Performance at Kirov Theatre. Part 15 Kirov Vaganova School Gala Act 3 Paquita 1 of 4 This is the third and last act of the 1989 Vaganova School Gala Live Performance at Kirov Theatre. This Paquita starts with the entrance of young boy and girl students. At the conclusion of their dance, one of the girls in the middle center is Maya Dumchenko, one of the current Kirov stars. In this perfromance, Dumchenko was a second year student at the Vaganova School, under the direction of her teacher, Novitskaya. After the younger students depart, the middle aged and older students enter. The leading ballerina is Olga Bolobueva. Her male partner is Ananyan. The first soloist is Zhanna Sinitsina. Part 1 of 12 Vaganova School Ninel Kurgapkina 8th year class Vaganova Academy School in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) with Nureyev's former Kirov partner, Ninel Kurgapkina, teaching the upcoming graduate students. 6 of these girls were promoted to the Kirov ballet. The girl to the right of Vaganova's picture is Anna Polikarpova, the star in the Kirov Stone Flower video. *** These are the girls of consequence in this class and what I know about them. The first girl on the right side is Larissa Ponomarenko, who currently is principal ballerina at the Boston Ballet. The third girl on the right side is Olga Melnikova, who is currently principal ballerina at Dresden Semper Opera & Ballet. The girl at the right side of the center bar is Anna Polikarpova, who is the star of the Kirov video of the Stone Flower. The girl in the center is Bolobueva (I do not know her first name), but I believe that she is still with the Kirov. Bolobueva played the leading role in Paquita, performed by the Vaganova school, and you can see her perfromance in that role in my videos. The girl on the left side of the center bar is Zhanna Sinitsina. Her first or second year with the Kirov, she made her debut as Odette/ Odile in Swan Lake. After her second year with the Kirov, she seeked asylum in the USA and I cannot find out what she is doing.
