Elliott Yamin - Somebody To Love Elliott's voice has 'Umph.' It has 'grit.' It has 'Soul.' A song like this is BIG. It's Gospel-y and full of passion. NONE of the contestants could've pulled this song off. I love Chris, Paris, and Katharine, but they would've been out of their element. This is the kind of music Elliott was made for. It's big and expressive and so... AMAZING. I LOVE QUEEN. Doesn't everybody? And this is one trip of a song. Elliott Yamin - If I Can Dream Covers aren't received well by die-hard fans of anybody. They get brainwashed into thinking a certain song is supposed to be sung a 'certain' way. I wasn't sure if I was going to like ANY of these Elvis renditions because, well, damn it, it's Elvis. Katharine did alright. Chris did good. Taylor was awful, but that was to be expected. But, out of all the performers that night, I was highly impressed with Elliott. Chris gets bashed because he took on 'I Walk the Line'. He sang the song well but, of course, Cash lover's hate him for attempting it. Did he attempt to replace the original? No, absolutely not. Did he think it was better than the original? No, absolutely not. Is the song so sacred, that only one person in the world can sing it, and everything else is garbage? No, absolutely not. Elliott Yamin - Open Arms Elliott Yamin was the best MALE vocalist in American Idol history. Bo was good. Chris Daughtry was good. Elliot was GREAT. (And you guys keep mentioning Clay, but darn it, I haven't finished Season 2 yet! Let American Idol Rewind get there.) I always root for the underdogs because I see a little of myself in them; a struggling genuine who's trying to go beyond the rest. I don't get what Simon means by 'lack of stage presence.' Elliott was always the best guy. Is it lackluster because he didn't let a gimmicky hairstyle like the PonyHawk take him places? Should he have had a southern twang, made pouty faces, or have been prematurely Grey to win? Is it boring when a singer doesn't flail around like a headless chicken? Is it a bad performance when a singer doesn't have a harmonica in his ass pocket, ready to whip it out when he runs out of repetitve 'Oh Yeahs!!' ? I guess it is. Because America let a good one go. Elliott Yamin - Trouble As the contestants on Idol get whittled down every week, weaknesses begin to show. The favorites may have an off night and in those 2 minutes lose 1/4 of their fanbase. The 'Not-So-Greats' may have a good night and gain a cult-like following. Did Elliott ever have an off night? NO!!! How did anything Elliott sang during the competition NOT sound like a ready-to-be-released single?? His voice is hypnotic. He made every performance feel as if it were 'his' own song he was singing. It just wrapped around me like a blanket. Of all the Idol performances I have on my iPod, Elliott holds the most spots on my playlist. But winning isn't everything. Elliott Yamin - Moody's Mood For Love I wish i could sing this song as awesome as Elliott did. Best rendition of the song I've ever heard (I still like the original, but this one is amazing). Elliott is one of those contestants that when Idol ends (which, rumor has it, will be after Season 10), will be remembered for taking a song and singing the heck out of it. There are quite of few of those speckled in every season; unfortunately they don't always win. But as proven time and time again, winning (especially on Idol) isn't always everything (Look at Ruben and Taylor, for example). I think if you're going to enter Idol you should concentrate more on trying to make an impact rather then trying to actually 'win.' Sanjaya wasn't a good singer, but he was one of the memorable ones of the season because he chose to stand out. And almost everybody who get's into the Top 12 gets signed and makes an album. The one with the most fans will make the charts. The one who'll fail is the joke. All I gotta say is even the 12th runner up is getting some minor hype for her album.
