Gay Nigerian Activist Davis Mac-Iyalla African An Evening with Gay Nigerian Activist Mac-Iyalla Hosted by Trinity Episcopal Cathedral June 27th, 2007. Davis Mac-Iyalla, 35, is founder and director of the country's only gay-rights organization, Changing Attitude-Nigeria, which advocates for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in the Anglican Church and elsewhere in Nigeria. The Episcopal Church is the American wing of the worldwide Anglican Communion, which includes 80 million members in 154 countries. In 2003, the Episcopal Church consecrated the Rev. V. Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop. Nigerian Archbishop Peter Akinola has been a leading critic against the ordination of gay bishops and the inclusion of GLBT persons in the life of the church. Mac-Iyalla is a leading voice fighting a proposed bill in his country that would make it illegal for gays to organize, meet in public, or even visit a GLBT website. He has received numerous death threats for his activism, has been fired from his job as a school principal, and forced to live in exile in a neighboring country in West Africa. Prior to declaring his homosexuality, he was an active member of the Anglican Church of Nigeria. In May 2007, he convened a meeting of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender activists from seven West African countries, for the first regional conference of its kind. His recent tour of the U.S. has taken him to 20 cities, and he has addressed the executive council of the Episcopal Church about the dangers faced by GLBT Nigerians. An Activist Silenced - Indonesia May 1997 Increasing numbers of Indonesians are daring to oppose the government despite the harsh penalties. 27 year old Budiman Sudjatmlko's story epitomises the growing opposition to Surharto's rule as well as the fate which awaits those who speak out. In his final courtroom appearance Budiman gives a dramatic and colourful performance to a packed gallery of family and supporters. Handing out flowers to the judges of his case, he announces his lack of faith in the Indonesian justice system. Members of his PRD party clap and cheer shouting "Democracy or Death". Budiman's parents watch from the public gallery as, instead of making a plea, Budiman reads a four hour critique of the government. Only the judges, in danger of falling asleep, and the prosecution remain unmoved. Back in court to hear his sentence he refuses to stay to hear the verdict. In the crush his mother rushes to embrace her son for the last time. Outside he climbs onto a vehicle in a defiant show of bravado. Riot scenes on the streets show not only the radicals are fed up. Glenn Beck: Activist Judge Strikes Down Hazelton Ordinance Superior Court Judge James Munley is a disgrace to his position as an objective determinor of laws. In his ruling against Hazelton's illegal immigration ordinance, he refused to use the legal term "illegal aliens". Instead Munley referring to foreign nationals unlawfuly in the U.S. as "undocumented workers". A term that he believes also applies to illegal alien welfare mothers, drug traffickers, and MS-13 members. Then Munley insisted that communities be forced to get permission from the Mexican government before the U.S. deport anyone. Are you seeing where this is going? Munley, a pathetic hack for the ACLU, has made it illegal for communities to enforce loitering laws, control unlicensed contractors, or deny benefits to illegal aliens. By definition, Munley is an activist judge. Expect Hazelton to appeal. Visit www.pesosforcongress.org, and support LEGAL immigration.
