Satori: Congolese Tilapia Fillet In this Congolese cuisine satori, an attempt at duplicating a famous dish of the Lokele fishermen of Kisangani, I used the following ingredients: 0.86 lb of farm raised Tilapia Fillet (this would serve at the most 2 people; and before anything, fry the fish--after rubbing it with the HerbSalt mentioned below--and put it in a container, while saving the oil used for the main cooking event) Olive oil (I can't find palm oil); Chopped onions, fresh red and green peppers; Tomato paste; One Plantain (you could also get a manioc at the nearest tropical food store); Chopped carrots and mushrooms; Pepitas seeds (to pan-fry and ground to flour in a small marble mortar; this is the closest you can get to gourd seeds unavailable in the U.S., to my knowledge); HerbSalt blend for Seafood and Vegetables (to rub on the fish before frying it: having used it, you don't need to add salt); Crushed Red Pepper; Thyme; Garlic Herb; Marjoram. This is all the stuff you need. I also showed a tube of precooked Polenta, which in the USA, is as close as you can get to the Congolese Chikwangue (just slice the Polenta and microwave it for 1 minute to obtain a good ersatz of our beloved Kwanga). Oh, I forgot: you first need to get a connection to Radio Okapi on the net, then hook it up onto your stereo system, and let good Congolese music blast through while you start your operations as Zika looks on. This dish is best consumed with a cold beer, here a Samuel Adams would do as subsitute for cold Primus or Skol. A caveat for Kenyan cooks: please try and follow the self-explanatory clip: while people are great in Nairobi, the food sucks! In Kinshasa, men are so sexist they don't even go near the kitchen area: grow up! And experience this satori! By the way: let's give this dish a pedantic Frenchie gourmet name: Pan-fried and broiled Tilapia Fillet on a Bed of Pepitas seeds, Plantain, Mushrom and Carrots. Congolese Warlord Arrested CHAN: And a Congolese former rebel warlord was arrested by Belgian authorities in Brussels last Saturday. The international Criminal Court (ICC) had a warrant out for his arrest. [Leo de Bock, Belgian Justice Ministry]: "The concrete facts of which he is being accused happened in the Central African Republic in 2002-2003. They include systematic rape, looting, torture, violence." The ICC, based in The Hague started work in 2002 as the world's first permanent war crimes court. The ex-rebel chief is the first person arrested under an ICC investigation into the Central African Republic. [Karel De Gucht, Belgian Foreign Minister]: "The arrest was made on a request made under the international penal code and we have an obligation to accede to the request...It has nothing to do with the current discussions about the Congo - the two matters are unrelated, which happen to coincide, but they are not connected." The ICC is continuing its inquiries into what it says was a widespread and systematic attack against Central African Republic's civilian population by Bemba's MLC rebels. The Congolese Genocide The world silent over the Congolese Genocide is beyond belief. 6 millions of the Congolese has been killed from the war launched by Rwanda and Uganda since 1998. 2 millions of people have been displaced from their home and still homeless. This genocide have seen less actions from USA leaders compare to the support brought to people in Darfur-Sudan or in Rwanda. We understand, the Congolese Genocide is less spectacular due to the country's size (Western Europe) and the lack of interest in the case may be explained by the French language barrier. Any way, this genocide is ongoing now and needs USA leaders' actions to stop the warlord, Laurent Nkunda from killing, assassinating, raping and spoiling the DRC minerals. Only a strong leadership from USA can lead action to arrest this warlord and bring him to justice. DRCongo has been a very long time USA partner since world war II and the cold war, is there any possibility to foresee a Marshall plan to rebuild this country when other development approach are offered to the DRC from new developing country like China? A sculpture is just in one piece, in a body as it were... Here we have the intricacies of a primeval forest: hills, pits (if not abysses: with this word, the sea, the bottom of the ocean, which is also a jungle, comes to mind... ain't it crazy, the way this painting reads like a Rorschach test?)... this thing is quite unfathomable, like an elusive Kinoise! Not a diamond either, a diamond is rigidly stupid... there's some milky softness oozing somewhere... a mask too... never mind, I'm just raving! And a big question mark: how could people so scarred by the mayhem of war come up with such beauties--as this piece or as a tune by Koffi Olomide?
