Nació como Sheena Shiley Orr, en Belshill, Escocia en 1959. Inspirada a seguir la carrera de cantante tras deslumbrarse con Barbra Streisand en The Way We Were, ingresó a la Academia De Música y Drama de Escocia, mientras hacía sus primeras presentaciones con el grupo Something Else. En 1979 se presentó en un concurso de la BBC, lo que despertó el interés de EMI, con quienes firmó el contrato para su single debut, "Modern Girl" y "9 To 5" los cuales ingresaron directamente al número uno, convirtiéndose en la primera artista femenina en tener dos temas simultáneos en el TopTen. Tras este éxito se edita en 1980 su trabajo debut, "De 9 A 5", editado en Estados Unidos como "Morning Train", para evitar confusión con el album del mismo título de Dolly Parton. Tras ganar el Grammy como Mejor Artista Revelación, Easton fue elegida para cantar el tema de la película de James Bond, Solo Para Sus Ojos, de 1983. Otro de sus éxitos fue el dúo con Kenny Rogers "Tenemos Toda La Noche". En 1984 se edita "A Private Heaven" con la participación de Prince como escritor y productor de algunos temas (Sugar Walls y U Got The Look).
