Gaelic Storm- Johnny Tarr Over the past couple of years Gaelic Storm has become known to play a few bars of Johnny Tarr in different styles before launching into the familiar version of the tune. This footage shot at Stamper's Pub in Fairview Park in March of '05 shows the Jazz, Rap, Country, Blues, and "Stairway to Heaven" versions. Sorry for any littel gaps in the footage as my camera at the time was the type that only took 30 second clips, which I had to string together. Still a decent little movie, though! Johnny Tarr - Gaelic Storm The song Johnny Tarr by Gaelic Storm off of their CD Special Reserve. WARNING: If you do NOT like Celtic music, don't bother with this song. Thanks. Lyrics: Lemme tell you a little story about a man named Johnny Tarr He was a hard drinking son of a preacher, always at the bar. Lager from the tap or shots of Paddy from the shelf He could open his throttle and throw back a bottle as quick as the devil himself.... Johnny Tarr And the word got around that Johnny Tarr was no pretender. From Claire to here they'd lock up the beer when Jonny went on a bender. Down at Dickey Mack's, the Rising Sun, or at the Swan. He was drinking by seven by ten to eleven well all the booze would be gone! Johnny Tarr! And even if you saw it yourself, you wouldn't believe it, But I wouldn't trust a person like me, if i were you. Sure, I wasn't there but I swear i have an alibi, I heard it from a man who knows a fella who says it's true! It was nine in the morning, on a cold and rainy night. Johnny walked into the Castle Bar, looking to get tight. He had money in his pocket, he had whiskey in his eye. He said "Get up off your asses and set up the glasses, I'm drinking this place dry!" Now all the serious boozers, they were soon broken hearted when Johnny finished off six and he was only getting started. Guzzling down the pints, and knokin' em back like candy. He was lookin' alright to be drinkin' all night, then Nora brought out the brandy! Johnny Tarr! And even if you saw it yourself, you wouldn't believe it, But I wouldn't trust a person like me, if i were you. Sure, I wasn't there but I swear i have an alibi, I heard it from a man who knows a fella who says it's true! Here we go Sheila Johnny drank the whole damn bottle, had another pint or two, When it made no impression he started a session with Murphy's Millenium Brew. He was waiting for a pint when his face turned green; Jesus, Johnny fell down after only fifteen! You could have heard a pin drop, then the crowd let out a roar, It took five Cork women to lift Johnny off the floor! The doctor looked him over and said "you better call the hearse: But it's not what you're thinkin' It wasn't the Drink', this man died of thirst!" Johnny Tarr! And even if you saw it yourself, you wouldn't believe it. I wouldn't trust a person like me, if i were you Sure, I wasn't there but I swear i have an alibi, I heard it from a man who knows a fella who says it's true! And even if you saw it yourself, you wouldn't believe it. I wouldn't trust a person like me, if i were you. Sure, I wasn't there but I swear i have an alibi. Gaelic Knights The first movie shot with our new Canon XL2, Gaelic Knights was done as a project for my homeschool Gaelic class. Young Seumas MacLeod (Stephen Cull) has spent his life seeking Iain Macamhlaigh, the man who killed his father (Rick Cull). One day, he meets a young swordsman (Zack Lawrence) who claims that name. A vicious duel ensues, as well as an homage to The Princess Bride. But even skilled swordsmen can make mistakes. All of the dialogue is in Scots Gaelic. (I know it's not accurately subtitled, but it's close.) Originally, the film was not going to be subtitled, but finally was after realizing that people probably wouldn't be able to tell what was going on otherwise. Production took place in summer of 2005, and the video was completed in February of 2006. Tags: gaelic knights sword fighting fencing rapier princess bride homage |

Dublin v Kerry 1977 - Best Gaelic Football Game Ever I was at this game at Croke Park in 1977, sitting in the Cusack stand with my father, watching this clash between the two greatest teams of the modern era. The Dubs were at their peak, having beaten Kerry the year before in the All-Ireland final. The two had also met in the 1975 final, which Kerry won, so the rivalry was keen. This is the All-Ireland semi-final of 1977. Kerry lost this one, but would exact sweet revenge in the 1978 and 1979 finals and go on to win the 4-in-a-row. But, for me, Bernard Brogan's goal remains one of the sublime sporting moments in my life ... Tags: Dublin Kerry GAA Dubs Gaelic Football 1977 Croke Park |

Gaelic Mist - Raglan Road A quick recording of Raglan Road to some photos of Dublin etc. Hope you like it. "Raglan Road" is a well-known Irish song from a poem written by Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh named for Raglan Road in Ballsbridge, Dublin. Patrick Kavanagh (Irish: Pádraig Caomhánaigh) (21 October 1904 -- 30 November 1967) was an Irish poet. It was first published as a poem in the Irish Press on 3 October 1946 under the title "Dark Haired Miriam Ran Away." Peter Kavanagh, Kavanagh's brother said that "it was written about Patrick's girlfriend Hilda [Moriaty] but to avoid embarrassment he used the name of my girlfriend in the title." Patrick Kavanagh met Hilda Moriarty in 1944. She was a 22-year-old medical student at University College Dublin. Kavanagh, who was 20 years older, became obsessed with Hilda Moriarty. His love was unrequited and she later married Donogh O'Malley (who became a Fianna Fáil Minister for Education). Raglan Road is set to the traditional air "The Dawning of the Day" (Fáinne Geal an Lae) composed by Thomas Connellan in the 17th Century. Writer Benedict Kiely thinks he was the first person to see the words of 'Raglan Road' written out and how Kavanagh asked him if he thought the poem could be sung to the air of 'The Dawning of the Day'. The song, often known simply as "Raglan Road," has since been sung by the Dubliners, Van Morrison, Sinéad O'Connor, Dire Straits, Billy Bragg, Roger Daltrey and Loreena McKennitt among others. Kavanagh was born in Mucker, Inniskeen, County Monaghan in 1904. His father was a shoemaker, and Patrick also entered the trade after leaving school. For twenty years he lived a life as an ordinary young Irish farmer of the period, toiling for pocket money in fields he expected some day to inherit. However, he was often more interested in reading than farming and the farm horse 'Oul Glug' "knew the way home better than he did." Kavanagh began writing verses at a young age. He began submitting poems to local and national newspapers. He became increasingly dissatisfied with life as a small farmer, and in 1938 he left Inniskeen for London and remained there for about five months. In 1939 he finally settled in Dublin. Kavanagh lived in Pembroke St., Dublin, close to Raglan Road, from 1946 (the date of the poem) until 1958 and then at 19 Raglan Road itself from 1958 to 1959. There is a statue of Kavanagh by Dublin's Grand Canal, inspired by his poem "Lines written on a Seat on the Grand Canal, Dublin": Apart from the obvious, the line "and I not making hay" may refer to his absence from Inniskeen during the autumn haymaking because of his obsession with Hilda Moriarty, or his unemployment in Dublin at the time. Grafton Street is Dublin's principal shopping street, running from St. Stephen's Green in the south to College Green in the north. in the 1970s Noel Purcell sang "Grafton Street's a wonderland with magic in the air . . .". The street was named after the first Duke of Grafton, who owned land in the area. It was developed from an existing country lane by the Dawson family in 1708, after whom the parallel Dawson Street is named. Street entertainers such as buskers, poets and mime artists commonly perform to the shopping crowds. Raglan Road On Raglan Road on an autumn day I met her first and knew That her dark hair would weave a snare that I might one day rue; I saw the danger, yet I walked along the enchanted way, And I said, let grief be a fallen leaf at the dawning of the day. On Grafton Street in November we tripped lightly along the ledge Of the deep ravine where can be seen the worth of passion's pledge, The Queen of Hearts still making tarts and I not making hay O I loved too much and by such by such is happiness thrown away. I gave her gifts of the mind I gave her the secret sign that's known To the artists who have known the true gods of sound and stone And word and tint. I did not stint for I gave her poems to say. With her own name there and her own dark hair like clouds over fields of May On a quiet street where old ghosts meet I see her walking now Away from me so hurriedly my reason must allow That I had wooed not as I should a creature made of clay - When the angel woos the clay he'd lose his wings at the dawn of day.
