Let's Play Dynamite Headdy Game Gear Part 3 I dare say that the Nomad was more powerful than any Game Boy system (minus the VDP from the 1980s) -- I don't consider the DS to be one, though. If they could have miniaturized the 32X and Genesis hardware and made it more power-efficient, they could have had a really nice handheld gaming system for the current generation. Besides, the Genesis, as I say, has a proven library and certainly better sound than the GBA. Credit sequence is a LOT shorter here, and obviously with no bonus game, that's it. Also, this stage is the only one where the Maruyama fight music is used. Tags: Dynamite Headdy Video Game Sega Let's Play Genesis Mega Drive Treasure |

Let's Play Dynamite Headdy 17: CAN IT BE FINAL BOSS TIME NOW Yes, yes it can. There's a line that I believe is by Avalanche Wong from the Silent Mobius dub, at least, that is something like, "We are doomed to make the same mistakes again and again. It's a part of being human." Keep this in mind as you view my attempts to get the secret bonus point. Or not -- just do something else while the overdubbed music is playing and come back when it stops to see most of the progress. It's actually really hard to do. After a trip to Busch Gardens Europe, I have been inspired to make Castlevania: Bloodlines my next LP, but it won't have any progress until the end of summer, I think. Dynamite Headdy: Stage 1 Good news everyone! I am now able to record movies off of my Genesis emulator! Hooray! Of course, I did require help to find one. Credits for this and all other future Sega Genesis projects go to inflames19! You're the man! This walkthrough is for you, and for everybody else as well. I decided to start with my FAVORITE Genesis game (and I'm a Sonic fan folks). Dynamite Headdy is a true gem, and I want to show you all first hand how extremely awesome it is! This game starts out pathetically simple, but the difficulty ramps up as the game progresses! And just look at this game! A puppet show theme? GENIUS! I love this game because it dares to be different! Anyways, this is the entire first stage... very short, nothign too special. This is to get you accustomed to Headdy's actions. Notice: For those who've played this marvelous game, note I will NOT show every secret bonus point. If you'd like to see all of them, check out my friend whoisthisgit's videos. He has some vids of him showing every bonus point in detail. Very cool! Anyways, enjoy my first Genesis video! Tags: Dynamite Headdy |

Dynamite Headdy - Twin Freaks - 46 seconds no damage. Twin Freaks, the infamous boss of stage 8-5 of Treasure's Dynamite Headdy dealt with in forty-six seconds* with the player (me) sustaining no damage (almost a perfect run). Please note that this was done on a PAL megadrive, which runs approximately 17% slower than the NTSC versions: the borders (another PAL issue) at the top and bottom have been cropped. I used the game's built in level code to access the level for the purpose of recording this video. Dynamite Headdy was a sublime platform/action game for the Sega Megadrive (known as the Genesis in the USA), made by Treasure (creators of: Gunstar Heroes, Gradius V, Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, among others) with many imaginative sections, interesting mechanics and some great bosses. For me there is nothing quite like meeting a boss for the first time, especially a rock hard and intimidating one, a real David and Goliath moment. Dynamite Headdy had plenty of these, but Twin Freaks was definitely one of the most potent. Having been introduced to the flipper in the previous level, a device that literary flips the screen so the ceiling became the new floor (and vice versa); the player was now expected to fight this screen sized boss in a forced scrolling maze that required the player to flip the level to avoid falling into pit traps or being squashed against the walls by Twin Freaks. The problem was that when flipped one way, Twin Freaks would turn red, gaining invincibility and becoming much more aggressive in his pursuit; until flipped back. The level layout was designed to keep the player having to continuously flip the screen back and forth. To further matters, the boss could only be hit in the centre of his ear (in western versions) and while he was green he would occasionally generate two different types of projectile. Some players never got pass the boss, yet the dreaded, notorious keymaster could be defeated if one knew how to go about it. Enjoy the video and study the technique I used (it can be done on the NTSC version). I hope that it will give some insight into how to deal with this boss. Even though I must admit, I've made two small mistakes here. Oh and the reason that Twin Freaks' goes transparent when I hit him is due to the video editor trying to sort out the TV interlacing (personally I prefer this to him going invisible, which is what another codec was doing). *From the start of the video. Dynamite Headdy: Stage 2 Stage 2 of Dynamite Headdy. The first scene is just a practice area where you can choose to compete in mini-games for practice (and three whooping secret bonus points). The rest of the stage goes on as normal, but I choose to pass up an optional mini-boss fight. To reach him, you must use the Spike Head. Mad Dog is pathetic, and a very easy boss fight, and the Hammer Head only speeds up the destruction. So yeah, pretty easy, not meant to throw you all off... yet... Tags: Dynamite Headdy |

Dynamite Headdy: Stage 3 This video is the result of playing video games at 1:00 in the morning, lol. But still, it's good enough in my view. Quite a few bosses strung about, ending with the Wooden Dresser at the end. One of the secret bonus points is shown in my vid and it's pretty clear. If you see the smiley balls in 3-1, strike one of them. Another one I'll mention is the fight in 3-3. If you defeat the Puppeteer first, you get the point. But beware... the battle is a lot harder if you beat the Puppeteer first! Hope you enjoy. Tags: Dynamite Headdy |

Dynamite Headdy: Stage 4 Up next in this awesome game: stage 4! This stage is pretty easy, only one mini-boss and no Keymaster to worry about here. Great music, awesome graphics (we're in the balcony of the theatre I think), and just pretty nice levels. 4-1, if I remember correctly, is the longest of the regular stages. Anyways, couple of secret bonus point revealed. I'll tell you that one of them is in 4-1 and all you have to do is keep hitting that balloon thing until you get the point. In 4-3, I shall reveal that the fans CAN be destroyed, and you get 2 SBPs for this (one per fan). This stage isn't hard, but the next one won't be that easy. So enjoy the simplicity while you can. Dynamite Headdy - 9-3 - Final Boss, Dark Demon - Perfect Run A perfect run against Finale Analysis' Dark Demon (no health lost, secret bonus point obtained), the final boss (stage 9-3) of Treasure's Dynamite Headdy... played on a PAL Mega Drive. Click here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37Fr0JxfxYI to see a less risky way of doing this level or click the link below the video screen. If you want to see a perfect run of any other level of this game (with the exception of Far Trek [stage 9-2] and the bonus final level you get for collecting all four numbers in the basketball stage) please feel free to ask. I was most surprised when I managed to get this perfect run, if only because I missed the Mini-Head when he did his ceiling attack and was lucky (2:23). The way to beat Dark Demon is by knowing what the colours of his crystal ball mean and what head from the selection you're offered to best counter with; as I'll how explain: Pink = Those Flying or hopping creatures will appear, either use a head with a projectile attack (preferably the War-Head, as you can still headbutt); alternatiely the Hammer-Head works nicely too. Blue (not shown here) = DD will put an energy barrier up and fire energy missles across the screen. Either use the Mini-Head and hide between the barrier and DD, or grab the super-Head and jump over the projectiles. I don't think its possible to survive with other heads without getting hit at least once. Orange = DD will call upon the ceiling to attack, best use that Mini-Head, or hope that big opening is under you when it stops rolling. Green = Spiked enemies will come up with the bottom of the screen and only the Hammer-Head can destroy them. Kill them all for a secret bonus point (not easy to do). Failing that either jump between them (also very hard) or use the Mini-Head to hide next to DD. Flashes between colours = Grab the Mini-Head quick, because DD is about to shoot his screen sized laser at you, which only this head can avoid. Of course, if the Hammer-Head is available I like to grab that, hit DD and then quickly collect the most useful head for his attack. You don't get a lot of time for this kind of tactic so it'll help if you can look in two places at once. My absolute thanks to Minty Fresh Death's fantastic guide on gamefaqs, without which I'd still be in the dark over the colour system. Anyway enjoy... Dynamite Headdy: Stage 7 Only one scene... that's it. But it isn't easy. Gatekeeper's quite a difficult boss (but I got very, VERY lucky this time). There's two ways to deal with him. You can use the Empty Head (slow but effective for beginners or those who have trouble with this guy) or what the pros like to use: the Bomb Head. But the Bomb Head requires a little bit of luck. Enjoy it though. Tags: Dynamite Headdy |

Dynamite Headdy Baby Face Perfect Run -Requested by skyscamp As requested by skyscamp, here is a video of me battling the boss Baby Face on Dynamite Headdy for the Sega Megadrive/Genesis without getting hit and collecting the bonus point at the end. Recorded on a PAL Megadrive. I choose the Laser "Rocket" Head mostly because of the fact that it shoots through Boy Face's (etc) arm, thereby allowing me to position myself better than the Bird and Biplane Heads do; the only bad thing about the Laser Head is that I can't shoot Baby Face's second phase while he's at the far left hand side of the screen. Another good thing about the Rocket Head is that you can hug the left side of the screen against certain phases of the boss. BTW: Headdy's hitbox does not include his head, only his arms and his body, however I'm not sure what section of Baby's projectiles have a hitbox to register a collision. No invincibility cheats were used in this run: I used the level select code to access the level for the run. Audio jumps every now and then, I've no idea why it's doing this: but it happened during converting the video to youtube size regulation. Dynamite Headdy: Stage 9 I feel like crying... well, not really, but this makes me sad. The last level I have to do. Always sad to play this, as I know the game will soon end. But then I remember... I can just play it over, lol. This is the last stage, but it's nowhere near easy! Get ready to be tested. And of course, they won't disappoint on the final boss. He's quite hard if you can't figure him out. Final Verdict: Do I suggest this game? Well... let me just say this is my ABSOLUTE favorite game on the Genesis. What do you all think? This game is pure poetry in motion, everything's flawless! Well, only two things are wrong with it: lack of a password system and the levels seem a little too short. Other than that, this game's a true gem! Too bad he didn't become popular until the more recent years. We might've gotten a sequel if he was more popular. Oh well. If you have a Genesis, do yourself a favor and GET THIS GAME! You'll be missing out on one heck of a ride if you don't! Tags: Dynamite Headdy |

Dynamite Headdy - Nasty Gatekeeper Perfect Run, the long way A request by leonflash, who asked that I do a run off 7-1 with the following criteria: a) no using the bomb-head, b) don't get hit, and c) get all the levels bonus points. Always happy to oblige, here is the resulting run. Unfortunately, I've had no end of issues at present with video rendering and corrupted hard-drives; while I will attempt to get a good render of this to upload, I've opened this one up for comments and ratings and hope that the video and audio jumping is tolerable. When you first face the Gatekeeper you act as bait while Heather throws the keys collected from the previous Keymaster bosses into the boss's backpack when his attention is distracted (when it's attacking Headdy). Getting the key into the backpack is simple, the gatekeeper will jump toward Headdy and every so often attempt to hit Headdy. When he does this Heather will get her chance to throw the key, but she has to have a clear shot; if the gatekeeper takes too long to attack then Heather will impatiently jump to the opposite side of the screen. One of the more fun things to watch is when Heather jumps to the other side and sees a late clean shot, throws the key and then, the key misses and flies off-screen, followed by panicked Heather. After all the keys - including the one from the boss that you never see - have found their way into the backpack, the gatekeeper falls out of shot and the pack shoots some stars upwards, whose twinkling sound dislodge the fake glass background (on top of our hero, no less), revealing the Dark Demon's castle behind. Of course the Gatekeeper comes back, seemingly annoyed by all this, since he has gone all nasty and grabs Heather to use as a puppet equivalent of a human shield (if you hit Heather at anytime, Headdy will lose health). Nasty Gatekeeper has various ways to attack, though only one makes him open to counterattacking. His main attack involves him locking onto Headdy's head and launching one of his arms to hit, while covering his face -- his weakpoint -- with the other, this attack can be dodged either by simply shooting up as the keeper is just about to attack -- leaving the target ridicule in mid-air, or else by walking away or towards the keeper as he locks on; the later tactic is more risky as it can involve jumping over the attacking claw. The keeper will alternate between his right and left arm, bracing them for attack to inform you which. If he is going to use his right arm (which holds nothing at the start), then you can direct it to fire off-screen and when it comes back it will have either grabbed a Headcase or a Bino; if the hand goes off-screen holding either it will subsequently let go. If it sends in Bino then hit for a secret bonus point. Headcase will carry one of two variations of power-ups: Clear Head, Bomb Head and Head Trip, or Hammer Head, War Head. His second basic attack is to jump around the screen -- the first jump is generally towards Headdy -- whilst spinning his right arm in a clockwise direction dodging this is more of a case of positioning yourself and running pass the gatekeeper as he jumps over you. never jump or stand still while he is in the air. Every so often the gatekeeper will open up his arms to drop a little bomb capsule to the ground, the bomb will spread fire across the ground (though the capsule itself is harmless), this is your only chance of attack as he will leave his face open to attack; jump in and whack him. Once you do hit him you have to avoid as series of multiple, rapid arms attack by timing shooting you head upwards into the air, if you unsure of the timing then you can do a jump before firing. Thereafter it is simply a case of flinging your head upwards as the claw passes by your head, being particularly careful not to accidentally hit Headcase if its cycle includes Head-Trip. Once it has finishes its fury attack it will revert to either of the first two. It is the getting the timing down when he is targeting that is the key to the long haul, most of that in that first dodge; and depending on whether you're using a PAL or NTSC Mega Drive or Genesis that timing will be slightly different. There are two, relatively speaking, easier ways to defeat the Nasty Gatekeeper though. The first is to time the Bomb Head to detonate as he makes himself open to attack, this is tricky in itself and has a certain degree of luck involved but does make the battle go quicker if you can get the timing right. The second is to continually grab the Clear Head from Headcase, giving you invulnerability while you slowly wear the gatekeeper's health down. In the original Japanese version, the gatekeeper is a geisha named Yayoi who politely tells you that there is no evil castle here and you might as well go back home (or something to that effect). Heather -- called Fingy in Japan -- steps in and contradicts Yayoi, Headdy and Fingy use the keys and find the castle and Yayoi is replaced by angry sister Izayoi.
