KITV covers "Discover Kauai" on youtube A July 15, 2007 television news piece on the success of a youtube video called "Discover Kauai." The short film sparked local controversy on the Hawaiian island of Kauai by speaking what is unspeakable in a society dependent on the tourism dollar: that there are serious flaws in this island paradise, most notably runaway development. Paving over Paradise is, in fact, BAD for not only for tourism, but for everyone who lives on Kauai -- for Native Hawaiians, for long-time residents, and for recent transplants from North America and beyond. Kauai Kauai, aptly nicknamed the Garden Isle, is the Hawaiian island treasured for its lush tropical greenery and sparkling sand beaches. Visitors to the island worship not only its postcard-perfect beauty, but Kauai's diversity of cultures, activities, shopping, and dining. Verdant rainforests, impressive golf courses, vibrant scenery, friendly faces, blissful breezes, and striking waterfalls are just a few of Kauai's spectacular offerings to its guests. Exploring Kauai is to unearth secrets more than five million years old, the world's greatest natural wonders, and an island that proves that, like fine wine, some things get better with age. Walk along beaches where the ocean marries the coastline in a heavenly match, watch with childlike awe as dolphins and whales swim in their natural habitat, and observe from a premier vantage point in your helicopter the panoramic beauty of Kauai's remarkable vistas. Vacations to Kauai are lifetime experiences that you will want to share -- with the distinct difference as the one trip you'll take that your friends will want to hear all about (and with more than a tinge of envy). Mother Nature's moods run the full spectrum for Kauai's fortunate visitor. Where else in the world can you discover an island that truly bestows everything to its guests: soft, refreshing coolness atop a mountain; brief, misty rain showers; arid desert land, and the ever-smiling warmth of the sun and the sand? Aloha. We extend to you a warm welcome and invite you to discover your own Kauai. www.kauaidescovery.com 1-800-262-1400 (c) WVVH-TV 2008 all rights reserved Tags: Kauai Hawaii Garden Island Beaches Travel Sun Fun Golf Waterfall Surfing Peaceful Rain Forest Smile VVH-TV Hamptons |

Hiking Nā Pali Coast's Kalalau Trail (Kauai, Hawaii) Re: The music used. I use Pinnacle Studio to create the video slideshows. This program includes some music along with the option to purchase additional individual musical scores. There are hundreds from which to choose. And that's what I did here. The tune is called Until Forever. There is no artist info. I'm not sure if it's just a regularly tuned accoustic guitar or a Hawaiian tuned slack key. But, amazingly, it sounds like kīhō'alu. That's why I chose it. Now, back to the video: The Nā Pali Coast sits along Kaua'i's northern shore. It is the most dramatic and awe-inspiring place on the island and draws the attention of just about all visitors who come here. This demand to see it has local businesses scurrying to supply all sorts of site-seeing services from which tourists may choose. By air you may go by helicopter, small plane, or even an ultralight. By water you may go by sailing catamaran, large boat, hard-hulled inflatable, or -- maybe -- a kayak (if you have the strength and know-how). We have enjoyed seeing this beautiful coast a couple times from a couple different angles using those services. However, one method we have joyfully employed on each of our three trips to Kaua'i was hiking. There is no better way to experience Nā Pali Coast than getting up-close and personal. And you will not find a better way than to hike the eleven-mile trail that follows this beautiful coast -- from Ke'e Beach to Kalalau Valley/Beach. That trail is called the Kalalau Trail. For day-hikers, you can freely hike the two miles to Hanakapi'ai Beach. For the more rugged among you, from that beach, you may choose to go inland an additional two miles through Hanakapi'ai Valley to Hanakapi'ai Falls. It's supposed to be a great experience, but I've never done it. That detour is an eight-mile round trip on foot in rugged terrain! Are you up to it? Most people simply choose the first two miles to Hanakapi'ai Beach. If you're not the big outdoors person, you do not even have to hike that far from Ke'e Beach to get some really awesome views of Nā Pali. Within the first mile or so you will find enough to satisfy yourself. It's definitely worth a look since you will not have to expend too much time or effort and you may not even break a sweat! Just don't blame me if you get there and feel the urge to hike further. :) If you want to hike beyond Hanakapi'ai Beach along the Kalalau Trail, you will need a camping permit from the state. I've never done it so I am not sure about procedures, but I have read that the permits are limited and require many weeks of advance reservation. One thing is for sure when hiking here: EVERYTHING is further than it looks! As the trail follows this zigzagged coast, everytime we came to an apex out towards the water, we could peer down the coast towards our destination. However, the view seemed like it never changed! We were hiking and hiking along yet it seemed as if we were not making any progress. This was one aspect that made it seem much further than the actual two miles hiked. Hanakapi'ai Beach is dangerous if you plan on entering the water. Many have drowned here because of the rip currents. Be cautious. The safest bet is to stay out of the water. As a testament to ferocity of the ocean here, there is a hand-written sign at Hanakapi'ai Beach that reads: "In memory of all those who have drowned at Hanakapi'ai Beach, a warning of very strong and dangerous currents - most were only wading, these are just a few!" It is then followed with a short list of victims who have drowned here. Their names and hometowns kind of made me feel uneasy. I felt that it gave the place a hallowed feeling. Coupled with the actual warning signs, they stand as reminders that Mother Nature's rules can sometimes be tough -- and deadly. Please, heed the warnings. Also keep in mind that rogue waves can also change the dynamics of what may appear to be a peaceful-looking ocean. Just keep your guard up and you shall have a great time. Discover Kauai; America In Distress "I Liliuokalani, by the Grace of God and under the Constitution of the Hawaiian Kingdom, Queen, do hereby solemnly protest against any and all acts done against myself and the Constitutional Government of the Hawaiian Kingdom by certain persons claiming to have established a Provisional Government of and for this Kingdom. "That I yield to the superior force of the United States of America whose Minister Plenipotentiary, His Excellency John L. Stevens, has caused United States troops to be landed a Honolulu and declared that he would support the Provisional Government. "Now to avoid any collision of armed forces, and perhaps the loss of life, I do this under protest and impelled by said force yield my authority until such time as the Government of the United States shall, upon facts being presented to it, undo the action of its representatives and reinstate me in the authority which I claim as the Constitutional Sovereign of the Hawaiian Islands." Queen Liliuokalani, Jan 17, 1893 Distress Signal U.S. Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 8(a) states, "The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property." The emphasis is on extreme and imminent and personal. This is not to be used as an objection to war or other government policies. To explain this more, simply look no further than the County of Kauai local government and its leaders for negligence at all levels. Stories of police corruption go far beyond peoples front doors. The heartless breed running rampant within the Kauai Police Department has never been disciplined, only promoted or reassigned. Until President George Bush is impeached and the American Justice System is restored to encompass our original Constitutional Bill of Rights as set forth by the founding fathers of this nation, the American flag should be flown upside down as a sign of DISTRESS. Americans rights in Hawaii are at great risk of being abused and denied. Discover Kauai: Supreme Court Rule 5.1 Prosecutors must disclose obviously exculpatory evidence even absent a request from the defendant, and when Guyot interfered with a court order in an attempt to prevent the court ordered penal liability exam from potentially exonerating Pinkerton, and to suppress the question of Pinkertons liability from a court ordered mental examination is equivalent to the suppression of evidence, along with suppressing exculpatory evidence found on Pinkertons website, are grounds that disqualify him for immunity. See Brady v. Maryland373 U.S. at 87 Prosecutor Guyot and members of the County of Kauai Prosecutors Office have a professional responsibility to divulge the evidence favorable to the Plaintiff, when they learned from Pinkerton's website and failed to allow that information to negate Pinkerton's guilt, regardless if the evidence implicated several Kauai Police Officers. Once again, no sanctions were ever brought against the Prosecutors Office or Guyot for with violating Rule 3.8(b) of the Hawaii Rules of Professional Conduct. Rule 3.8. of the Hawaii Rules of Professional Conduct: Performing the duty of the public prosecutor or other government lawyer. A public prosecutor or other government lawyer shall: (a) not institute or cause to be instituted criminal charges when [the prosecutor or government lawyer] knows or it is obvious that the charges are not supported by probable cause; and b) make timely disclosure to the defense of all evidence or information known to the prosecutor that tends to negate the guilt of the accused or mitigates the offense, and, in connection with sentencing, disclose to the defense all unprivileged mitigating information known to the prosecutor, except when the prosecutor is relieved of this responsibility by a protective order of the tribunal. Kauai Horseback Mahalepu Beach This is Spirit. He came from a strawberry farmer on Maui almost 5 years ago and we have been pals since we met. If he has one bad habbit it is that he LOVES to run! He has a super fast gait that makes taking these videos possible. The area we are riding is the Mahalepu Wilderness area that spans over 5000 acres. Mahaulepu Beach: (Ma-ha oo-lay-poo) "and falling together" Mahaulepu's name comes from a legendary battle that occurred in the 1300's when Kalaunuio Hua, a Big Island ruler, made an attempt to take over all the Hawaiian islands. Kalaunuio Hua and his men paddled to Kauai, drew up on Mahaulepu Beach and began to form themselves into fighting order. Kukona, then ruling chief of Kauai, appeared on the ridge above the gathering. Kalaunuio Hua hurried to meet Kukona, but when he got there Kukona could not be found. Kukona, who now stood on a neighboring ridge, challenged Kalaunuio Hua which prompted a chase inland, further away from the beach. When the invading warriors reached Wahiawa (near Kalaheo), Kukona and his army attacked the tired warriors and defeated them easily. By nightfall, it was evident that Kalaunuio Hua had lost the battle and became a prisoner to Kukona. Thus began the historical distinction of Kauai as an island that was never conquered. The home on this beach was established by a Koloa Sugar Plantation civil engineer in the mid 1900s, Elbert Gillin. Destroyed in 1992 by hurricane Iniki, the "Gillin House" was re-built shortly after and continues to be owned by the Gillin family heirs. Tags: "Discover kauai" coastline beaches mountains horse |
