PROSINCA HUMANITARNI KONCERT NA JELAČIĆEVU TRGU HINA ZAGREB, 7. prosinca 2006. , Dino Dvornik, Elemental, Raspashow i drugi.

Leukemia research-Susan Eastwood A Teesside family's gift to thousands There can be few things more soberingly unfair than a child born to die young, but when Susan Eastwood from Middlesbrough died aged 7, her parents chose to do something exceptional and have changed tens of thousands of lives in the process. Susan Eastwood got ill in the late 1950s, but the local community gathered around in support, even though, back then, most people had never heard of leukaemia. Susan's friends gave her a music box, locals at the nearby pub had a whip round and bought her a dog, Whiskey, when they learnt of her illness. In 1960, Susan was due to open a local garden fete. Her parents had bought her a new dress, which she loved, but shortly beforehand, her health began to fail and she wasn't well enough to open the fete. Susan was buried in the clothes bought for the fete. Her sister Sylvia was 19 when Susan died. She spoke to Alistair Campbell, Tony Blair's former special adviser and fundraising chairman of Leukaemia Research, for the BBC's Inside Out programme. She told how she remembers her brown eyes, how she was a "little giggly" girl who used to love going on the swing in the back garden and being pushed as high as she could go. The drugs made her face puff out and she'd get tired with all the treatment, she'd say "I think I will have a little sleep on my bed." Her parents would do anything to make her feel better, or be happy. They used to go on trips to the lake district and the seaside. Much of her time was spent playing with Whiskey the dog. After Susan Susan's parents wanted something good to come out of their daughter's death and dedicated the rest of their lives to raising money for a cure. The family were constantly thinking of new ways to raise money. The music box bought by her friends was the first thing to be auctioned off. Sylvia and her mum working on their handkerchiefs. Hankerchiefs in a "peak formation" were all the rage for men to wear in the breast pockets of their suits at the time. Sylvia and her mum used to spend the evening stitching these to bits of card so they could look smart in suits. In one money raising venture her father dressed as a baby with a dummy in his mouth and was pushed around in a pram to get donations. They also sold Christmas cards before charity cards were commonplace. Their parents' aim was always to spend as little money as possible on administration, so the maximum amount could be put toward research, a rule that stills applies today at the fund. How the Fund Started. The Eastwoods read an article in "The People" highlighting the importance of research into childhood diseases at Great Ormond Street Hospital. David and Hilda wrote to the Director of the Institute saying "If we can achieve something then we shall know that our daughter died for a reason." A year after Susan died, her parents had raised Â3000 for the fund. On the 9th of December 1961 David and Hilda Eastwood attended the official opening of the first unit in the country dedicated to childhood leukaemia research at Great Ormond Street. The Work Today As part of the Inside Out programme, Alistair Campbell met 10 year old Rachel Paul from Teesside, who has survived 2 bouts of leukaemia. Rachael Paul and her teddy, Belgium. Her mum Pamela's instinct that something wasn't quite right went back to when Rachel was 14 months old. She was diagnosed with leukaemia (AML) in 1999 and spent the following months receiving treatment in hospital. She then relapsed in November 2000. Doctors tried everything to get Rachel into remission again and she was having so much chemotherapy and radiotherapy that she had to be given growth hormones. Once in remission, a donor was found on the Anthony Nolan register. Pamela remembers the 70 ml of "pink liquid" - the bone marrow - that was injected into Rachel. She and her husband started off the syringe that put her back on the road to recovery. Rachel also received a teddy from the anonymous Belgian donor. JACKS MANNEQUIN CORPORATE OVER LEUKEMIA Something Corporate mastermind Andrew McMahon has split off into his alter ego, Jack's Mannequin, which is very different than his piano infused songwriting for Something Corporate. The new album, Everything In Transit, came out in 2005, but a series of debilitating ailments crippled McMahon and he was unable to support the release with tours or interviews. McMahon had been diagnosed with Leukemia, had a stem cell transplant, underwent chemotherapy and battled pneumonia, the combination of which almost killed him. In one of his first interviews since his return to the scene, McMahon talked about his illness and how far he's come with recovery. Jack's Mannequin is back, having a joint venture with the... TEC Leukemia Video I waited a long time before I finished this video. Not everyone knows that someone close to me had cancer. Sometimes when people ask me what it was like last year, I scarcely know how to answer. And even if I did, I'm not sure they would understand. One thing I CAN say is that skating helped me keep it together. Even though I'd skate like its my last day on earth, it was actually very therapeutic throwing my frustrations into something constructive. I wish everyone had such an outlet. Because even when the world becomes dark, you have to keep rolling. Whatever your life's troubles - have faith, and don't give up hope. To learn more about leukemia, go to www.leukemia.org. Umran has Leukemia This is Umran Osman. He is an 8 year old boy from a village in eastern Chad near Gaga Refuge Camp. His parents brought him to the camp hoping that the humanitarian agency there might be able to do something for him. He has been chronically ill and the doctor from IMC (International Medical Corp) believes he has leukemia. It just goes to show how needy people are in the region--that the locals would have to go to a refugee camp to get care. Now villagers in eastern Chad are being attacked and destroyed just as villages in Darfur were. Of the 300,000 refugees in eastern Chad, about 80,000 are Chadian. R.I.P. My LoverBoy - Feline Leukemia Virus flv Cat Kitten This is my Cat LoverBoy who had to be put to sleep due to complications of feline leukemia. The Big cat is his buddy Moe, from the fist day that I got loverboy (aka, Za, ZaZu, zazuzayzum) he was a bold and brave kitten he always thought he could beat big moe up, and every chance he would get he would playfully challenge Big Moe, and it would always make me laugh and I would grab the camera. Loverboy was given to me as a small kitten on Mothers day 2005, and I instantly feel in love with him the first day because he was fearless, funny, clumsy and brave and everytime I use to hold him in a comfortable way he would fall asleep and snore. Everyday I use to always hold him and kiss him up, and say to him "You're my only lover in my whole wide world." I never knew loverboy had feline leukemia until he got really really ill in early 10-06, he started having trouble breathing and his appetite changed dramatically (he was a cat that would want to eat all day if I let him and he would eat like there was no tomorrow and always beat me to the kitchen anytime he saw me headed towards it). When I took him to the vet 10-21-06 it was then that I learned he was flv+ feline leukemia virus and from that day he went downhill he stop eating didnt drink water, all he did was sleep by my foot or on my bed. When I took him to the pet hospital I found out he had fluid in his lungs and his breathing continued being labored, they drain the fluids but it returned and his breathing got worse. It was 11-14-06 when I had to depart with my LoverBoy, and what makes it extremely sad is that I wasnt even there, I was at work when I got the call from the vet Hosp that his breathing took a turn for the worse and he was suffering, It was then that is was decided to euthanise him. I Broke down and cried at work because I couldnt be there with him and I felt that he was wondering where was I, I felt that he was afraid without my familar face to comfort him. But sometimes I wonder maybe it was for the better that I didnt see him being but down because it probably would have destroyed me even more. I learned a valuable lesson from all this and it is to get your pets tested and keep up with all of their shots. I dont want this to sound bad or anything so please dont take it the wrong way, But I do not ever want another sick cat for as long as I live, because this experience was to Painful and shocking to me, I cried hard for many days and sometimes I still do now. I dont ever want to go through that experience again. Rest in Peace My LoverBoy, We all Miss You even Moe. I will always miss you and I will never forget you.
