Potent Porsche: 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 Spy Video http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/GeneralFuture/articleId=126540 We're only a few months away from the official launch of the 2009 Porsche 911, but recent spy video from the Nürburgring suggests that a refreshed version of the 911 GT3 will follow for the 2010 model year. Like the forthcoming 911 Carrera, the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 gets only minor styling changes this time around. The reworked front end has been simplified with only three air inlets instead of five, while the front marker lights have been narrowed slightly. Tape over the taillights indicates a few minor changes to their design along with the switch to full LED illumination. It's hard to tell if the spoiler is full production spec, but it's certainly high enough to carry the GT3 tradition. Like the Carrera, the 2010 GT3's flat-6 engine will benefit from the addition of direct fuel injection. The new technology will deliver an extra 20 horsepower in the standard Carrera, so expect a similar bump to the GT3's current 415-hp rating. Displacement is expected to remain at 3.6 liters. Although it's clear from the sound of the gearchanges that this GT3 prototype has a manual transmission, the introduction of the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch transmission in the standard 911 opens the door for inclusion in the GT3 as well. The new PDK transmission is essentially Porsche's version of Volkswagen's DSG, but whether it's up to handling the GT3's additional power remains to be seen. With deliveries of the 911 Carrera and Carrera S models scheduled to start this fall, sales of the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 probably won't begin until late next spring at the earliest. Porsche 911 tries to escape the police A 42-year old man from Purmerend, the Netherlands is caught after a bizarre chase. The man driving a Porsche 911 GT3 drove at speeds exceeding 200 km/h (125 mph) on the A7. The police gave him the stop sign from an undercover surveillance car. The Porsche, ignoring this, took a last second exit and went off. While entering the high way again, the driver lost control in the corner of the entranceway hitting the safety rails. While losing several parts from his car he tried to escape again. While being chased he took the road verge desperate to escape. He enters a parking space next to the high way and steps over to a Volkswagen Golf, driven by his 33-year old girlfriend. A 29-year old man which was the passenger at the Porsche took over the wheel from the Porsche and tries to get away. As seen in the video, while this was happening the police is taking a safe distance, observing until backup has arrived. The Golf drives away like nothing happened but the police knew he was in that car. They create a road block to hold up the traffic so they can arrest the former Porsche driver, the passenger now driving the Porsche also gets arrested. In the Golf happens to be a baby and in the baby-seat they discovered a firearm. In the clothing of the baby hard drugs were found. Porsche Cayenne Hybrid Porsche recently unveiled early drafts of its Cayenne SUV hybrid prototype. The SUV, which will debut towards 2010, aims to decrease fuel consumption by an estimated 25 percent, especially during city driving. The Cayenne Hybrid will feature electric-powered steering, air conditioning and vacuum pumps for the brakes. 2010 Porsche Panamera on Nurgurgring http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/GeneralFuture/articleId=120494 The first time we saw the 2010 Porsche Panamera, it didn't seem much like a super sport sedan. Caught meandering through the German countryside, the prototype could barely outrun the Opels of the locals as the Porsche engineers tested various systems on their new four-door. This time around, however, the Porsche Panamera was in the midst of a real workout when our spy shooters caught up with it at the Nürburgring. Wearing the same heavy camouflage as the first test mule, this prototype doesn't give us anything new to report in the styling department. It's not too hard to guess what this new front-engine, rear-drive sport sedan is going to look like, however, as its basic shape is obvious despite the plastic cladding. Expect the production version to have a slimmer tail section and a less pronounced rear wing, along with a nose that looks more like its 911 cousin. Now that the revised Porsche Cayenne's specifications have been officially released, we know a little bit more about the V8 engines that will find their way into the Panamera. The two vehicles are expected to share the same range of power plants, although the Panamera V8s might get a few tweaks to boost their output slightly. The base engine will be a normally aspirated 4.8-liter V8 with direct fuel injection and Porsche's Variocam Plus variable valve timing. It delivers 385 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque in the Cayenne, so don't be surprised if the Panamera shows up with a nice even 400 hp to bolster its credibility against sedans like the Audi S8 and Maserati Quattroporte . An even higher-spec V8 will come in the top-of-the-line Panamera Turbo. With a pair of turbochargers feeding the 4.8-liter V8, the Turbo should deliver at least 500 hp and 516 lb-ft or torque, if not slightly more. An entry-level V6 model is expected for Europe, but doubtful for the U.S. market. In true Porsche fashion, a manual gearbox will come standard with a dual-clutch sequential manual setup expected as an option. As good as it all sounds, there's no reason to get too excited yet as production at Porsche's plant in Leipzig isn't scheduled to begin for another two years.
