Ryan vs Dorkman RYAN WIEBER VS. MICHAEL "DORKMAN" SCOTT What began as a friendly rivalry between two effects artists explodes off TheForce.Net's FanFilms Forum and into the real world in a lightsaber battle royale. Originally created for the forum's lightsaber choreography competition, this fight to the death will decide once and for all who is truly most skilled with a saber. There can be only one. (I did not make this short film, stop asking me how I made the special effects. Its a mix of rotoscoping, photoshop and After Effects.) Visit their website at http://www.ryanvsdorkman.com for any and all info concerning how to make this video, how long it took, or to meet the real creators of the fanfilm. FAQs (from ryanvsdorkman.com) How did you do those lightsaber effects? We used Adobe After Effects to rotoscope the prop blades and add glows to them. Essentially the same way ILM does it. After Effects was also used for a variety of other visual effects you see (or don't see) in RvD. How long did it take you to make this, and when did it come out? We choreographed and filmed over the course of three weekends, and spent about 4 months on the effects in our spare time, finishing March 1st, 2003. Did you guys have any martial arts or sword training when you made this? Neither of us had any formal training of any kind at the time of making RvD. Just watched a lot of movies. Where was this shot, and what is that thing in the background? RvD was filmed at Carco Electronics, who built flight simulators for the aerospace industry. The machine in the background is a satellite tracking positioner, the specifications of which were top secret. After the machine was finished being built, it was shipped off to an "undisclosed location". Where did you get the lightsaber props you guys are fighting with? The saber props were actually built for this. They were made in several parts using a lathe, mill, and other metalworking tools. Aluminum tubing (like you can find at your local hardware store) were used for the blades. What kind of camera did you film with? Canon GL-1 camcorder. Ryan Now Playing in the YouTube Screening Room: http://youtube.com/ytscreeningroom http://www.nfb.ca/ryan 2005 OSCARS for Best Short Animation Ryan is based on the life of Ryan Larkin, a Canadian animator who, 30 years ago, produced some of the most influential animated films of his time. In the film, we hear the voices of prominent animators and artists discussing Ryan's work, and from waitresses, mission-house caretakers and homeless people who make up Ryan's life. These voices speak through strange, twisted, and disembodied, computer-generated characters--which combine to reflect the film's creator, Chris Landreth. In the words of Anais Nin, "We don't see things as they are. We see things as we are." Some strong language. Viewer discretion is advised. Ryan Leslie "Diamond Girl" Official Video - Rough Cut This is the edit of the video that premiered on BET's 106 & Park on Friday, April 4th. Since it's my channel, I've added some sound design to the version that aired. As I posted in my previous video, I had a huge vision for this video to feel like a live television performance that gave tribute to a James Brown piece I saw on the Ed Sullivan show. I saved up my money and had the EXACT same stage built that James performed on. I then hired a band to cut the live version. After that, I worked with everyone on the stage to have that throwback vibe. I paid to shoot the performance on a blue screen with the intention of having the set of the Ed Sullivan show digitally recreated behind me. My label disagreed. They felt that the live version felt too much like a remix. They also felt that we needed to rush on the video so the final edit came back without the digital stage - just changed the blue to black and added some lights, and cutaway graphics of diamonds. My original treatment called for the video to be set in the late 60's just like James Brown's performance. I wanted to have families huddled around the television watching this performance like they used to back then. When I got to LA to shoot, the entire set was modern and a piece of me died. My vision was compromised. Rather than be an ungrateful artist, I stayed and gave my best performance. The video that's airing is really only a partial representation of my artistic vision. Here are a few of the audio edits I've made that are featured in the vid that you're seeing: * First, I had someone come to the studio and say the following dialogue in French: "Ryan. Wait for me. I'm not even ready! I can't believe you're gonna leave me here...You're driving me crazy - I can't do this anymore. Ryan - if you leave - we're finished! YOU SPENT $3000 ON A DRESS - don't you wanna see me in it?? Oh..ok - fine... GO! Amuse yourself with the girls at your show!! And if you think I'll be here when you get back - THINK AGAIN!!" * Second, I convinced Evan to do the voice-over of my manager. * Third, I re-cut my dialogue from the beginning and added the sound of running water to enhance the vibe of our bathroom conversation. * Fourth, I added the sound of the door opening before the video starts. * Added a few horn stabs to parts of the performance when I'm gesturing to the band to "hit me". * Put some applause at the end of the performance scene. * Added the sound of screaming girls, running feet, more screaming girls and the car door closing. The lesson I learned here is that when you have a strong creative vision - do everything in your power to see it through. I am very thankful that I have a video on TV. Many artists are still striving for that milestone. Regardless, this experience encouraged me to shoot another video as well as an 11 minute short film based on "Diamond Girl". I will not stop. Barry Ryan - Eloise Barry Ryan (born Barry Sapherson, 24 October 1948, Leeds, Yorkshire) is an English pop singer. The son of pop singer Marion Ryan and Fred Sapherson, Barry and his twin brother Paul began to perform at the age of fifteen. In 1965 they signed a recording contract with Decca and brought out singles such as "Don't Bring Me Your Heartaches" (1965), "Have Pity on the Boy" (1966), and "Missy Missy" (1966). When it turned out that Barry's brother, allegedly on the verge of a nervous breakdown, was unable to cope any longer with all the stress connected with show business, the two brothers decided on a new division of labour: Paul would write the songs which Barry would then interpret as a solo artist. Their greatest success as a composer-singer duo, now for MGM Records, was "Eloise" (1968), melodramatic and heavily orchestrated. Later singles included "Love Is Love" (also 1968), "The Hunt" (1969), "Magical Spiel" (1970), and "Kitsch" (1970). From Wikipedia, Tags: Barry Ryan Eloise 1968 |

Ryan Leslie - "Addiction" (Alternate Music Video) This is the other one.. For the record, I am very happy with both of my videos and what they represent. The first one that I shot with Diane Martel was a statement about the need for more diversity in the fashion business. I had just come from checking out the runways in Milan and aside from the DSquared2 show, I saw very little diversity represented. That video was a chance for me to work with a very strong female director and some under-exposed talent in the modeling world. The style is simple and photographic. This video represents a different and just as important side of me: the imaginative, cinematic side. I worked with Aaron Platt and John Monopoly to make this tale of a stalker super-fan (played by Jeannena Flores from my 'Diamond Girl' movie) come to life. Starring Jaslene Gonzales (winner of America's Next Top Model) and featuring cameos by collaborators Fabolous and Swizz Beats, this video finds me in studio, shopping with my girl, and catching her as she falls - swooning unconsciously from my stalker's poisoned libation. (The text message at 3:55 reads "WE WILL BE TOGETHER xxoxoxoxoxo") I know, I know - where's Cassie???? To be honest, I had a big vision for this song to be a massive worldwide duet between me and her - the artist that introduced my music to the world in a huge way. For a long time, I've wanted to have a video that shows the incredible chemistry we've had as friends and collaborators. "Long Way To Go" was close, but we weren't in any frames together aside from when she snapped her fingers at me on the way into the club. Disney had cut together a clip for "Is It You", a record I'd written for her on the 'Step Up 2: The Streets' soundtrack, but never officially released it as a single/video. It featured her in character as Sophie rehearsing the song with me at the piano. Due to her hectic schedule recording this new album, she wasn't available to shoot either 'Addiction' video with me and so I'm working on another collaboration/single for her album that deserves a video - unless I can convince her to do one for "Sometimes" or even "Just One Nite" (both songs I would love to see visually interpreted). All in all, this video was a great learning experience for me. I had tried my hand at directing/producing an alternate 'Diamond Girl' video and have yet to post it because I feel it still needs work! Maybe I'll leak a VERY rough version when I polish it more... In the meantime, enjoy!
