Dawn of the Dead (Zombi) - Italian Soundtrack - Part 1 The entire original soundtrack to the other version of George Romero's 'Dawn of the Dead', known by the title 'Zombi' (1978). This European cut was edited under producer Dario Argento's supervision. It concentrated more on the action, gore and suspense while Romero's version had more dark humor, social satire and character development in it. It was trimmed to meet the standards of non-English speaking countries. This version was also a lot shorter. The amount of on-screen violence varied with each country. The whole Italian soundtrack was performed by the progressive rock band, Goblin (Argento's regular choice for film compositions). Romero's version only used a few songs from Goblin's album 'Zombi'. Those were "L'alba Dei Morti Viventi", "Zombi", "La Caccia" and some others that I cannot recall at the moment. The rest of the score was taken from different sources. IL DOMATORE DI ZOMBI Durante una sniffata di ascelle, una compagnia di fattoni si inbatte nel famigerato DOMATORE DI ZOMBI... Zombi (italianizzazione della parola zombie) è un termine di origine haitiana legato ai riti del Vudù, che è entrata nell'immaginario comune attraverso il campo cinematografico e letterario come un morto vivente. Nelle credenze popolari di Haiti, alcuni sacerdoti detti bokor, sarebbero in grado di catturare una parte dell'anima di una persona detta grande angelo guardiano, producendo uno stato di letargia che rende come morto un essere vivente, e che anche anni dopo la sua sepoltura, essi siano in grado di riesumare il corpo rendendolo loro schiavo. Passando sotto il naso del morto una bottiglietta contenente il suo grande angelo guardiano lo si potrebbe far risvegliare e controllarlo a piacimento. Secondo alcune tradizioni se lo zombi dovesse assaggiare del sale per un qualsiasi motivo, riprenderebbe coscienza e la fattura verrebbe spezzata. A partire dagli anni Ottanta si sono intrapresi studi a carattere scientifico sull'origine e la natura di queste droghe. Trattasi di mix di sostanze neurotossiche di origine animale, probabilmente dal pesce palla e da molluschi del genere Conidi, che indurrebbero le vittime ad uno stato catatonico confondibile con la morte. Si narra più realisticamente di individui haitiani del ceto povero, indotti ad uno stato di morte apparente da individui senza scrupoli, frettolosamente sepolti dai familiari e presto riesumati per venir loro somministrato un blando antidoto che ripristinerebbe le funzioni vitali senza però restituire la volontà. Le vittime incapaci di qualsiasi resistenza verrebbero asserviti come schiavi per le piantagioni di canna da zucchero. Le popolazioni haitiane dunque non temerebbero gli zombi ma di divenirne loro stessi. Il regime dittatoriale della famiglia Duvalier, al potere fino agli anni Ottanta, esasperava il clima di superstizione sugli zombi, conferendo ai capi della Polizia segreta, i cosiddetti tomtom macout, il potere di disporre delle droghe malefiche. Nella letteratura occidentale del passato gli zombi erano noti come gli schiavi vittime delle droghe. Un ottimo riferimento filmografico L'isola degli zombies (1932) con la star Bela Lugosi. Zombi è anche una droga del futuro citata nel racconto fantastico La porta sull'estate di Robert Heinlein, con la quale il protagonista viene totalmente asservito ai suoi falsi amici. Nella seconda metà del Novecento gli zombi (più correttamente "morti viventi") sono immaginati come le creature morte che continuano a camminare, senza più volontà, spinti solo dalla fame innaturale di carne umana. Con La notte dei morti viventi il cult capostipite del ciclo di George Romero, il fenomeno assume carattere apocalittico: la fine della civiltà devastata da un'umanità di cadaveri. Un durissimo apologo satirico sociale, che si evidenzia nel secondo capitolo del ciclo Zombi (1978), dove folle di zombi invadono un centro commerciale, mimando le gestualità dei vivi. Il concetto di "morto vivente" è dunque una distorsione di quello che lo zombi rappresenta nella religione vuduista ed è interessante come nel giro di una, due generazioni una parte di verità sia divenuta un mito sovrannaturale. Forse non è un caso che con la caduta della dittatura haitiana, negli anni ottanta il fenomeno sia passato da superstizione a materia di studi scientifici, restituendo al pubblico la verità primeva. In un'intervista il regista Lucio Fulci, autore di Zombi 2, parlava di un concorso della Chiesa haitiana ad alimentare la superstizione, inserendo l'elemento cannibalistico quale stortura diabolica /paganeggiante del rito eucaristico. First in the scene where the main characters move the trucks in front of the mall entrances, then when Roger is being pushed in the wagon by Peter after being bitten and finally at the scene where Roger drives the Volkswagen Scirocco through the aisles. It was also included in the American cut. La Caccia is my favorite song from this album. Tirassegno was the theme for the rednecks that shot zombies for fun. It replaced the song "'Cause I'm a Man" which Romero used. It's been a long while since I last saw the Italian version so I don't remember where tracks 9 and 10 were used. I just love that title: RISVEGLIO! I think 10 was for Stephen's and Francine's dinner scene. I often confuse this version with the American version. That's how brilliant my memory is.
