Gilbert Arenas Career-High 60pts vs Kobe Bryant Lakers 06/07 LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17, 2006 (AP) -- Gilbert Arenas set a franchise record with 60 points, 16 of them in overtime, to lead the Washington Wizards to a 147-141 victory over Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night. In a Kobe-like performance, Arenas outscored the Lakers' Bryant by 15 points and became only the second player in history to score as many as 60 against the Lakers. Wilt Chamberlain, who later played for the Lakers, scored 60 points against them multiple times, the last a 65-point game in 1966. Arenas went 17-of-32 from the floor, including 5-of-12 from 3-point range. He made 21 of his 27 free throws and also had eight assists and eight rebounds. He scored 14 points in a row for Washington, including a pair of 3-pointers, in one stretch of the 5-minute overtime. The previous franchise high was 56 by Earl Monroe on Feb. 13, 1968, against the Lakers in overtime, when the Wizards were the Baltimore Bullets. "It was bound to happen,'' Arenas said. "I'm a scorer, so I was going to have one of those days where I was clicking. Most of the time when I've scored 46 in three quarters, we were blowing the other team out, so I didn't get to play in the fourth. "But tonight was that time. It was a close game and I stayed in. I found the rhythm, especially in the fourth quarter and in overtime, and I never looked back.'' Arenas' previous high was 47 points, against Miami last Dec. 30. Bryant, coming off a 53-point performance his previous game, scored 45 points on 15-of-24 shooting, but had just four points in overtime. He made 7-of-11 from beyond the arc, part of a franchise record 44 shots from 3-point range for the Lakers. They made 19, including 5-of-9 by Vladimir Radmanovic. Antawn Jamison had 25 points and 13 rebounds for Washington, and Caron Butler scored 27. Radmanovic, starting in place of the injured Lamar Odom, had 27 points, and Luke Walton had 15 points and a career-high 11 assists. Washington led by as many as 17 early in the fourth quarter, but the Lakers came back to catch them at 126-all and send the game into overtime. The victory was the Wizards' fourth in five games against the Lakers, but only their second in the last 14 meetings in Los Angeles. Washington also won for just the third time overall in 11 road games this season, and the Lakers lost at home for only the fourth time in 17 games. Arenas had 12 points in the third quarter, including a 3 with 31 seconds left to put Washington ahead 90-80 to start the fourth period. Down by 12 at halftime, Los Angeles closed to 85-80 on Andrew Bynum's dunk and free throw with 1:31 remaining in the third, but the Lakers didn't score again before the quarter ended. Washington was up 59-49 at halftime, with Jamison scoring 17 points and pulling down eight rebounds. Arenas also had 17 first-half points. Bryant, who took only one shot in the first quarter and whose only points came on a pair of free throws, hit 5-of-8 from the floor in the second and scored 16 points, including all three of his 3-point shots. Arenas scored 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting in the first quarter, Jamison had 10 points, and DeShawn Stevenson added four for all the Wizards' points in their 26-20 lead. Radmanovic had 10 points to help Los Angeles stay close. The Lakers made just 8-of-22 from the field, while the Wizards went 12-of-11. Notes: Bryant had scored his season-high 53 points as Los Angeles came from 21 points down to beat Houston in double overtime on Friday. ... The Wizards' 11-point victory over Miami on Friday had put them at .500 for the first time since they won three of their first six this season. ... Washington was without C Etan Thomas, not on the trip because of a sprained left ankle. Los Angeles F Odom is out for at least a month with a sprained right knee. NBA Summer League 08: T-Wolves - Knicks 111-91 LAS VEGAS, July 20, 2008 -- The Minnesota Timberwolves never trailed as they defeated the New York Knicks, 111-91, in the first of five games in the final day of competition at the 2008 NBA Summer League Presented by EA SPORTS. Both the Timberwolves -- playing without Kevin Love, who suffered a sore left Achilles yesterday against the Bucks -- and the Knicks finished their Summer League stints with matching 2-3 records. Minnesota dominated throughout, shooting 62 percent from the floor during the first 20 minutes of play and stretching their lead to as many as 16 in the half, on the back of Pops Mensah-Bonsu's 13 first-half points. In the second half, the Timberwolves' defense kicked in, holding the Knicks to only 13 in the third quarter. The Knicks, who had been down as many as 28, rallied in the fourth and come within 12 points, 87-99, with 3:46 to play. But the deficit proved too great -- Minnesota closed the game out with a 20-point win, 111-91. NBA Summer League 08: 76ers - Raptors 87-85 LAS VEGAS, July 17 -- Jamont Gordon's layup with 0.6 seconds left gave the Philadelphia 76ers an 87-85 victory over the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Summer League Presented by EA Sports at COX Pavilion. Philadelphia held an eight-point lead in the third quarter, but Toronto rallied in the final period behind John Lucas, whose consecutive buckets tied the game at 72. Two free throws by Lucas gave the Raptors an 84-79 lead with 51 seconds to play before the 76ers closed with an 8-1 burst. Thaddeus Young had two foul shots and a basket around a hoop by Jason Smith to tie the game. An apparent go-ahead basket by Jaycee Carroll was erased by an offensive foul, and the 76ers ran a nice out-of-bounds play that resulted in Gordon's game-winning reverse layup with an assist by rookie Marreese Speights. Philadelphia had balanced scoring with five players in double digits, led by Young's 21 points. Speights had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Smith had 12 and 12. Speights scored 10 points in the second quarter, helping Philadelphia take a 45-39 lead into the locker room. Toronto big man C.J. NBA Summer League 08: Mavs - Kings 93-71 LAS VEGAS, July 16 -- The Dallas Mavericks, led by Gerald Green's 18 points, defeated the Sacramento Kings, 93-71, on Wednesday. The win was the largest margin of victory thus far in the 2008 NBA Summer League Presented by EA Sports on the UNLV campus. Charles Rhodes had a double-double for Dallas with 13 points and 10 rebounds to fuel the team's second win in the summer meet. "It was a pretty good game," said Green, a former Slam Dunk champion who was signed as a free agent. "I slowed down my offense today and it worked out pretty well for me. My tempo was one of the problems with the first two games I played. I really didn't slow it down - I was kind of forcing the issue, so today I slowed it down and let it come to me a little bit. And that is a credit to the coaches." Dallas outscored Sacramento, 35-11, in the second quarter. Despite a slow start, the Mavericks owned a 14-point lead at halftime. Dallas' hot hand extended into the third period as it took a commanding 69-49 lead behind Green's 14-point quarter. The Mavericks led by as many as 27 points in the quarter. NBA Summer League 08: Kings-Blazers 75-74 OT LAS VEGAS, July 15 -- Jason Thompson's and-one bucket in overtime lifted the Sacramento Kings over the Portland Trail Blazers, 75-74, in the last game of the day inside the COX Pavilion at the 2008 NBA Summer League Presented by EA SPORTS. Sacramento's leading scorer was Quincy Douby with 24 points. He was supported by Thompson and his 17 points off the bench. "We are trying to get wins," Douby said. "I know it's just summer league, but I still want to win and to have a winning attitude." The opening stanza featured an 11-0 run by Sacramento, however that was immediately followed by a 12-0 run by Portland to close out the final few minutes of the quarter to make the score 19-15. Portland guard Jerryd Bayless was the only player at halftime to score in double figures with 14 points, including 11 in the first quarter. The Kings came out of the locker room and took control of the third quarter behind Douby who scored 14 points in the period and gave Sacramento a 58-50 lead. The fourth quarter was tight the rest of the way after Portland started off with a 12-2 run. The Kings were up two with 30 seconds to play, but Douby was unsuccessful in converting two free-throws to put the game away. Bayless came down and nailed a tough jumper to send it to overtime. After baskets were exchanged in overtime, Thompson converted a three-point play with 12.7 seconds left was enough to put away the Blazers. Portland got another great performance from Bayless, who scored a game high 26 points. His backcourt mate Petteri Koponen turned in a solid game with 18 points of his own.
