Cillian Foster, played with Anima for 7 years playing some of Irelands biggest venues like Vicar Street, Whelans, Sugar Club, Temple Bar Music Centre, The Draíocht Theatre, The Civic Theatre, The Helix, Dolans (Limerick), The Everyman Palace (Cork), The Cork Jazz Festival, with some of Irelands most established and respected artists like The Fureys, Aslan, Don Baker, Picturehouse, John Spillane, Maurice Lennon (Stocktons Wing), Finbar Furey, Mark Geary, Brendan O'Shea to name a few. Mark Cox started drumming at 17 in a variety of groups, as a session drummer, & in cover bands, playing rock, funk & blues by the likes of Jimi Hendrix & Rory Gallagher, in a number of venues including Voodoo Lounge, Whelans & Eamonn Dorans. Marks performances carry a passion and intensity that strives for an emotional connection and reaction from his listeners. Mark's career began as a solitary bedroom composer. Despite learning the cello and piano at a young age, it was not until his university years that Mark began writing music on the guitar. A reluctant performer, his first live show came at an Open Mic night in Sydney in early 2005 after much prodding from an enthusiastic flat mate. In Leicester he declared himself a singer-songwriter and began performing a few of his self-penned tunes in open mic's around the city. Before long he had his own "empire" of open mic events and became the front man for the excellent covers act Replica. Having written lyrics for years and being more than comfortable on stage he has gradually learned the craft of solo performance by "getting out there and doin it the hard way, instead of perfecting it behind closed doors." MARZ ROCHE Marz Roche (Record Of The Day & Music Week Tip) was born in Co. Mayo deep in the heart of the west of Ireland. An area rich with culture and tradition. Here, he was exposed to traditional Irish music from an early age. He soon found a passion for it and it wasn't long before Marz began playing both the guitar and piano. By age twelve he was playing in the local traditional group. It wasn't until his teenage years that he fully discovered the joys of Rock n' Roll and he and his brother Padraic began to avidly collect LPs by artists such as U2, Fleetwood Mac, The Beach Boys and Stevie Wonder. He spent nights on end figuring out guitar and piano parts for these songs and he and his brother would work out the vocal harmonies between them - it was these early teenage years that would shape Marz's song writing. He began writing his own material at age 15, 2 years later while still in school he was performing his brand of folk and laid back acoustic material up and down the west coast of Ireland. After secondary school he moved to Dublin to study primary school education. Here he reveled in the bustling Dublin music scene, doing singer/ songwriter nights 3 times a week and playing in various different bands. After the first year of college he had gained a significant following and had gained the respect of his peers. It became clear to him that the the next logical step was to record. Three years after its inception as a singer/songwriter open mic night, The Zodiac Sessions delivers its second acoustic compilation of unsigned, up and coming artists. Since its inception organiser Barry "Jazz" Finnegan, has given up and coming artists a chance to showcase their work to an appreciative audience on a weekly basis in Bruxelle's on Dublin's Harry Street. Unlike other promoters he's not in this for personal gain and entirely self funds the evening. His sole purpose is to promote the talents of these performers. "When you witness the amazing talents of people going unnoticed, you can stand back and do nothing, or you can do this." Regular artists appearing at the sessions include founding member of Blue Oyster Cult Joe Bouchard, Eurovision star Mickey Joe Harte, Luan Parle and Mundy. Having developed a huge cult following, March 2006 saw the release of the The Potential Collection, which showcased some of the finest new musical talent around including Angels composer Ray Heffernan, Micheal Roche, Brian McGovern and Tyrone Relph. Such was its popularity that due to demand Barry has now put together a second volume of the popular collection featuring 12 more inspiring tracks performed by some of the regular musicians. This second compilation boasts a wide range of acoustic styles from folk to soul.
