Blues Image was a critically acclaimed late 1960s rock band. Their most successful song was "Ride Captain Ride" in the last half of 1970, which went all the way to #4 on the Billboard Charts. Blues Image was a well respected band among their peers. In an interview conducted by British magazine Melody Maker, Jimi Hendrix said that Blues Image was one of the best up and coming bands around. Shortly before Hendrix's demise, Hendrix and Manny Bertematti were seen jamming at popular underground club, "The Experience" on Los Angeles' Sunset Strip. Blues Image was formed in Tampa, Florida in 1966 by singer-guitarist Mike Pinera, singer-drummer Manuel "Manny" Bertematti, singer-percussionist Joe Lala and bassist Malcolm Jones. They were later joined by keyboardist Frank "Skip" Konte. Blues Image moved to Miami in 1968, where they were instrumental in helping promoters form the most innovative music venue in South Florida, "Thee Image". Blues Image became the house band at the club, which featured bands like the Grateful Dead, Cream and Blood, Sweat and Tears. The band moved to Los Angeles and signed with Atco Records, releasing their self-titled debut album in February 1969. Their second album, Open (April 1970), included the popular hit "Ride Captain Ride" (featuring Kent Henry on guitar solo and fills, Pinera plays solo at the end). Song was co-composed by Pinera and Konte. Henry Gross - Shannon (1976) Henry Gross produced a single, "Shannon", a song written about the passing of Beach Boy Carl Wilson's Samoyed (dog) of the same name.(Henry had an Irish Setter also named Shannon)(I used the Irish Setter as a the videos subject) The single went gold and became a worldwide hit, reaching #6 on the USA charts in 1976. At age 18, Henry was a founding member of the world famous rock 'n' roll revival group Sha Na Na, playing guitar & wearing on-stage the "greaser" clothes he wore in high school. The group's popularity took a giant step after legendary performances at the Fillmore auditoriums in New York and San Francisco and the Woodstock Festival. It was an international smash hit, the first and most successful single off their album Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too. World Liberty Concert Alan Parsons - Sirius-Eye In The Sky This is a slightly 'cleaned up' video of Sirius/Eye In The Sky. The World Liberty Concert was held on 8 May 1995 and commemorated the 50th anniversary of VE-Day, the liberation of Europe. The venue for the concert was Arnhem, the Netherlands, near the John Frost bridge, the bridge immortalized in the film `A Bridge Too Far'. The idea for the WLC was conceived by 25 year old Dutchman Arno Geul, who, at an early stage, decided Alan Parsons was the perfect Musical Director for the show. Apart from (not entirely live) performances of the Alan Parsons Band (with Chris Thompson and Mick Mullins on vocals), Candy Dulfer, Art Garfunkel, UB40 and many others (including an 80 piece orchestra and a local choir), the show consists of military parades, airshows and a narration by Walter Cronkite, the legendary war correspondent and later news anchorman. The Alan Parsons Band performed a number of well-known songs (Sirius/Breakaway, Old and Wise, The Gold Bug, Sirius/Eye in the Sky) plus some new material commissioned for the show (among which White Dawn) and also accompanied Dulfer, Joe Cocker and Art Garfunkel on their segments. The show was televised live in 40 countries, was attended by approximately 85.000 people and is about two hours long. Space Shuttle Challenger Tribute STS-51-L - Jan-28,1986 A Tribute From NH. Home of Christa McAuliff. Space Shuttle Challenger, (NASA Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV-099) was NASA's second Space Shuttle orbiter to be put into service, Columbia being the first. Its maiden flight was on April 4, 1983, and it completed nine missions before breaking apart 73 seconds after the launch of its tenth mission, STS-51-L on January 28, 1986, killing all seven crew members. Challenger was destroyed in the second minute of STS-51-L, the orbiter's tenth mission, on January 28, 1986, when an O-ring seal on its right solid rocket booster (SRB) failed. The O-rings failed to seal due to a variety of factors, including unusually cold temperatures. This failure allowed a plume of flame to leak out of the SRB and impinge on both the external fuel tank (ET) and SRB aft attachment strut. This caused both structural failure of the ET and the SRB pivoting into the orbiter and ET. The vehicle assembly then broke apart under aerodynamic loads. As I Live in NH, the loss of this crew and especially our own local school teacher, Christa McAuliffe, was especially painful. Other crew members were Michael J. Smith, Dick Scobee, and Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, and Judith Resnik. Many viewed the launch live due to the presence on the crew, of Christa McAuliffe from New Hampshire, the first member of the Teacher in Space Project. Media coverage of the accident was extensive: one study reported that 85 percent of Americans surveyed had heard the news within an hour of the accident. The Challenger disaster has been used as a case study in many discussions of engineering safety and workplace ethics and inspired the 1990 television movie, Challenger. "We will never forget them this morning as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God."
