Und äußerst geschäftig, was sich nicht nur am zehnjährigen Bühnenjubiläum zeigt, sondern auch daran, dass der heutige Song schon wieder zu frisch ist, als dass er es auf die aktuelle Platte spinning round my head geschafft hätte. SVAVAR KNUTUR SVAVAR KNUTUR BALCONYTV.DE 04/08/2008 PRÄSENTIERT VON JOHANNA LEUSCHEN Wir könnten heute anfangen, uns in Wortwitzen zu verlieren, denn wird es heiß, schmilzt das Eis. Das gilt erst recht für (e)Isländer. Oder die unzweifelhaften Parallelen zwischen Knutur und einem gar nicht mehr so kuscheligen Bewohner des Berliner Zoos. Darauf kommt aber auch Svavar Knutur, der, trotz anderslautender Befürchtungen, zum Glück nicht ausstirbt, obwohl er ähnlich zu kämpfen hat, wie seine Namensgenossen. Bevor wir uns dann doch in Floskeln und ladegehemmten Kalauern erschöpfen, kommt ein letzter Knüller: Was passiert, wenn einer ein Lied über die Ruhe unter Birkenbäumen singt? Und das über der Reeperbahn! Sicher das Gegenteil, deshalb hört selbst. Und lest, was es sonst noch zu sagen gibt. Das ist dann auch interessant. SAVILLE BALCONYTV.COM 4/09/2008 PRESENTED BY PAULINE FREEMAN Nostalgia is the follow-up to Saville's highly-acclaimed album Somnambular Ballads and is well worth the long wait! Reviews of that album were glowing and included comments such as 'pure pop heaven' and 'these soul-boy Dubs are one of Ireland's best bands', and the thirteen tracks on Nostalgia have raised the bar even higher and garnered no fewer than four stars from any of the critics! A lead single from the album, 'Symphony of Sound' is currently enjoying quality airplay -- the single is an ode to Dublin city and is full of Joycean references -- as the RTE Guide puts it, "the band's very own 'pocket-sized Ulysses' which in its ambitious scope aims to capture the sounds and sights of Dublin in one day and succeeds admirably". PETE BENNETT AND THE LOVE DOGS BALCONYTV.COM 3/09/2008 PRESENTED BY PAULINE FREEMAN Pete Bennett and the Lovedogs have been performing up and down the country gaining the respect of University crowds and music lovers everywhere. They even played at Glastonbury and have most recently been on a gruelling 30 date UK tour. So you think it's been easy do ya? Well Pete was doing 'his' music way back before the days of big brother, in fact his mum has been a touring musician for many years giving Pete the thrill and buzz of being taken along for the ride with some amazing artists from the 80's such as Mark Almond and Jimmy Somerville. Great ways to learn about rock and roll don't ya think? But it's been a very long lesson! "Too long" says an impatient Pete. "Its all about showing people what I'm about" says Pete, "I'm determined to do this through my own merits and hard work; it's not just about releasing some crap record straight off the back of Big Brother". There is very little that you can't love the guy for, "I just hope that people like it, it makes me smile anyway, I'm having a great time". And that sums it up perfectly, if you want a great time take a listen, even better go and see the guy live, it's an experience not to be missed! This debut release sees the songs that served Daniel's previous band, The Guests, in their nationwide gigging days abandoned, with more adult, literate numbers written. The time he spent in Chicago is a major influence. "Faces, Girls, Monsters" is the sound of Daniel Jones alone -- a 4-song introduction to a major talent............ 'Rip It Up' is a storming opener. The Killers kidnap Neil Young's guitar from his Buffalo Springfield days and thrash the strings while an early incarnation of Blur make merry with the bass line......... 'Bouquet' asks the deathless question 'In the end, what is time?' The song stays comfortably the cool side of angst and is made for the soundtrack to an as-yet-unmade Sofia Coppola movie........... The loose-limbed pop sensibilities of 'Barefoot Childstar', complete with its 'Everybody dance now' hook, is as charming as anything Jeff Tweedy wrote when he was happy. And it departs the stage after one minute and twenty three seconds. Brevity is bliss.......... The closer, 'Taunting The Tide' is just gorgeous, a ballad to end all tear-jerkers. If this pearl fails to move you then you lead a sad, unfulfilled life.
