PART 3: Patti Smith speaks on past/present & future punk. May 6, 2007. Peter Werbe Radio Show. WRIF 101.1 FM, Detroit. Patricia Lee Smith (Patti Smith) born December 30, 1946) is an American singer-songwriter and poet. She was influential in the birth of punk rock with her 1975 debut album Horses. Called the "Godmother of Punk", she integrated the beat poetry performance style with three-chord rock. Her allusions introduced American teens to 19th century French poetry, while her "unladylike" language defied the disco era. Smith is most widely known for the song "Because the Night", which was co-written with Bruce Springsteen and reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1978. In 2005 Patti Smith was named a Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Minister of Culture, and in 2007 she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Differences between Islam and Christianity. PART 2 An Indonesian Perspective on the Person and Identity of Jesus Christ In this podcast, Fr. Daniel will concentrate on the identity of the 2nd person of the Trinity - Jesus the Christ. Is He who He claims to be - Very God of Very God? Jesus is the Eternal Kalimat - Arabic for Word or Logos in Greek. Fr. Daniel was born in a Muslim home living with his grandfather and began attending the Mosque at 5 years of age. As a young man, he invited Christ into his heart and was baptized into Dutch Reformed Protestant Christianity the only Church he knew at this time taking the baptismal name of Daniel. He then became very active in witnessing for Christ and he wanted to be an evangelist or missionary. The young Daniel was bewildered by the plethora of groups and denominations with differing and opposing theological thoughts, traditions and practices. He also began to miss liturgical rhythm of life which he was used to in Islam and set his heart searching towards the ancient Christianity of the East. He knew nothing of Eastern Orthodox Christianity, rather his intuition told him that Christianity was born in the same Middle Eastern milieu as Islam and soon he embraced and was chrismated into the Orthodox Christian Church. http://www.friendsofindonesia.org/ Tags: differences between Islam and Christianity Saint John the BIBLE KORAN |

Economic Breakdown Cycles & THE US Future. PART 8 Economic Breakdown Cycles Author Howard Bloom talked about the cycles of economic collapse since the 1600s and how the present financial crisis may be solved. Regarding these recurring financial meltdowns that hit society, Bloom said "Every time it happens, the world is absolutely convinced that it has never seen anything like it before. And every single time, the world is wrong." He detailed such events as the "Tulip Boom" which crippled Holland's economy in 1637 and the "Soap and Cotton Revolution" that did the same to England's financial market in 1873. Bloom explained how his research has revealed that these meltdowns occur approximately every seventy years and form a distinct pattern, which he called a "techno cycle." This cycle sees a new technology or energy source begin to emerge, then it skyrockets and the country behind it becomes an economic superpower. Following that, the technology becomes old and the market is satiated and, soon thereafter, the economy of the country once on top of the boom crashes. While that crash is going on, the next big technological burst is "bubbling up under the surface" and the cycle is beginning anew. Looking at solutions to the current economic crisis, he noted "usually new technologies involve opening vast new frontiers, but frontiers are not always literal." One such emerging field was what he called the "cyber world," citing the remarkable sales of mini laptops and "smart phones." The other key area where Bloom foresees a technological boom is alternative energy, specifically "solar power harvested in space." He stressed that America, with its homegrown solar panel development and strong space presence, "have the lead right now" but warned "we're letting it lapse because of a failure of imagination." Ultimately, Bloom mused, such forward thinking is "what makes new frontiers out of old emptinesses." Tags: Economic Breakdown Cycles howard bloom 2008 crash wall street economy recession depression |
