Spectacular Rocket Chemtrail October 2, 1999 HQ Stereo sound link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpD9uCmEawQ&fmt=18 This old video footage and series of still images document the chemtrail left by a modified Minuteman II intercept missile. The missile was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base as part of a strategic inbound target intercept test (Star Wars). The resulting plume went many miles into the upper atmosphere where the movement of the atmosphere twisted and distorted it into a very weird shape. Even though it was dark at ground level, the plume was so high up that the sun was still illuminating it, causing it to glow and refract the sun's rays into a rainbow of colors, visible across much of the southwestern United States for several hours. The plume is composed of aluminum oxide, aluminum chloride, water vapor and nitrogen gas, plus other trace elements. This is typical of most solid rocket propellant burns, including the Space Shuttle. Tags: chemtrail missile rocket minuteman test plume barium cloud technician jcmdi aluminum intercept star wars |

Rise of the Purple Hairstreaks - Butterfly Life Cycle HQ stereo version highly recommended! Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyWJlpIchkE&fmt=18 The Great Purple Hairstreak Butterfly (Altides halesus) is widely distributed in the southern and western United States, but is considered a rare butterfly in most places, and is seldom seen by most people. The larvae feed on various species of Mistletoe. The adult butterflies rarely open their wings, except to take flight, and usually appear dark charcoal/black-colored when at rest with their wings over their backs. The only time to see the amazing spectacle of their irridescent top side is when they first emerge from the chrysalis and expand their wings. Just like the Morphos of South America, the irridescent scales appear to change color as the light refracts from them at different angles. The freshly emerged adults appear to be bright metallic green for the first few seconds, then change color to a more aqua-blue or purple as the scales change their angle during wing expansion. The sexes are dimorphic, with the smaller males being a deep metallic blue-green, while the slightly larger females are a less reflective powder blue color. Description and timeline: * Eggs - (the little white blobs) shown at a distance for scale, and up close for detail, hatch in about 10 days; * Hatching - tiny, fuzzy 1st instar larva chewing it's way out of the egg, 30 minutes; * Larvae - 5 phases, called "instars", with a skin molting in between each, 3-4 weeks total; * Pre-pupation - the mature larva secures itself to a surface and prepares to pupate (2 days) * Pupation - the pre-pupa larva molts its skin, becoming a pupa (about 10 minutes); * Hardening - the pupal shell hardens to semi-rigid shell in a few hours; * Metamorphosis - the adult develops in the pupal shell (about 2-3 weeks); * Emergence - the fully developed adult cracks-open the shell and crawls free; * Wing expansion - the adult pumps fluid into the wing vein structure, expanding them (10 minutes). * Wing "drying" - the fluid in the wings dries, making them rigid enough to fly with (2-3 hours). The A L I E N Seeds Just wait until they open up! HQ stereo/video playback and headphones recommended! Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ns2_0_3jvI&fmt=18 What is THIS!?!?! Something from another planet? They look weird enough when you find them in the wilderness, but things get even stranger a week later - they open up as shown in the video all by themselves, about 6-7 days after ripening! Freaky! See it in time lapse here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpkpSYTN0Jo&fmt=18 This is a fun little mock-horror video that shows just one of the interesting things I've run across while out in the field. The plant is actually "Wild Cucumber" (Marah macrocarpus), an indigeonous southern California tuber/vine, which is also known as "Man-Root" because its root is said to be really big and shaped like a partially curled-up mummy! Weird! It's poisonous and not edible, but is a fairly common plant in the wet, shady places of Santa Clarita's nearby mountain areas. The music is an old experimental piece by Technician, reserrected, spliced and renamed for this occasion. Searching for Becker's White Butterflies near Palmdale CA This desert outing takes us to the Antelope Valley in the southwestern Mojave desert, near Palmdale, California. We're in search of Becker's White (Pontia beckeri) adults and early stages for rearing and life cycle documentary. After a tip from a colleague (thanks, Brian!) a large population was found and filming began. The butterfly was found in all stages of its life cycle, which made much of this video fairly easy to make. There was even a freshly emerged female (chrysalis still visible in the shots) found mating on one of the host plants! The rearing and detailed life cycle documentation is now being carried-out back in the "laboratory". That video will be released some time in the future. The soundtrack is another adlib experimental piece by Technician, called "G'echo" (Sounds like "Gecko"). Velda Pine Moth Pupation Creepshow This could be from a Sci-Fi mutant insect invasion movie - but it's actually 100% nature! These are actual photos and video documenting the pupation process of the Velda Pine Moth (Coloradia velda), a member of the Saturniidae family of giant silk moths. This pupation process normally happens a few inches underground, in a small chamber constructed in the soft earth by the caterpillar. After spending the winter in this underground cocoon chamber, it develops, emerges from the pupal case and claws its way to he surface. Once there, it expands its wings and begins the short (2-7 days) adult phase of its life where the primary function is reproduction. The soundtrack is "Monster Music" from the Technician CD "Halloween 2001". Much more Lepidoptera documentary at JCMDI.COM, free to the public. Enjoy! YouTube Stereo Test G Bug Video remake (see vid details) This remake of I0abUh1utY8 features decent stereo audio although the video quality suffers a little. I encoded and uploaded it a bunch of times to finally find the magic threshhold. Here's how: Download the freeware RIVA FLV encoder, (NOTE: RIVA doesn't like WMV ver9 so save your Windows Movie Maker video as "DV-AVI" or use another app which can save in AVI, MPG, or WMV format 8 or ealier), then encode using these RIVA settings: Movie size=320x240, framerate=30, bitrate=230 (type it in the box), de-interlace box checked. Audio: bitrate=80, sample rate=22050Hz, Stereo button clicked. I left all the other settings at their default. Then upload the resulting .FLV file (WAY faster than sending the original AVI or other large-format file!) For quality comparison, see this YouTube re-encoded version of the same video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0abUh1utY8 The YouTube-re-coded version is better quality all around, it's just not stereo. Other encoders may work, using the same (or similar) settings as shown above. It's also possible that these RIVA settings might result in a bitrate that YouTube re-codes anyway if your video is really complex, but they worked for me using several test videos. If YouTube makes your upload mono, back the video bitrate down to 225 and try again. You can make your test uploads private so your subscribers don't get hit with all your test uploads. Good luck! :-) Soundtracks available on CD at JCMDI.COM Tags: stereo test upload youtube bug video jcmdi technician lepidoptera caterpillar insect flv file encode mono sound audio |
