Mabel Normand as The Sweetheart of Six Other Guys For this upload I decided to combine the audio from the fun 1928 song "The Sweetheart Of Six Other Guys" by Fred Hall and his Sugar Babies (Okeh 41026) with a handfull of public domain video clips of Mabel Normand appearing with different "sweethearts". I thought it made a good combination anyway... Here's the rundown on her seven "sweethearts": Monday: Mack Sennett Tuesday: William Jefferson Wednesday: Hugh Fay Thursday: Ralph Graves Friday: Ford Sterling Saturday: Edgar Kennedy Sunday: Roscoe Arbuckle --------- I hope you enjoy it! Note: this is an improved version of a clip I uploaded a few days earlier. Tags: fred hall sugar babies mabel normand roscoe arbuckle keystone sweetheart silent |

Irving Mills' Hotsy-Totsy Gang-My Little Honey And Me (1929) Here's a little video I put together to accompany the Brunswick recording "My Little Honey And Me" by Irving Mills' Hotsy-Totsy Gang. --------------- The various film clips are all taken from public domain prints of two great Buster Keaton films from 1920 - Neighbors and One Week and feature scenes involving Buster and his little honey - (played by Virginia Fox and Sybil Seely resepectively). [Note: If you've never seen these complete films I highly recommend them both - they are available for download from the internet archive]. ------------ Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy the video! Eshbaugh's Wizard cartoon Early animated Oz story by the Ted Eshbaugh studio from 1933 and featuring music by Carl Stalling. It was intended to be the first in a series of Oz cartoons but from what I understand it was never released theatrically because of copyright disputes and the project died. Luke the Dog - Aw You Dog! Here's another tribute video featuring some samples of great performances by one of my favorite silent film era stars and a real pioneer in the industry: Luke the dog. Luke appeared in a number of early silent comedies due to the fact that his owners - Roscoe (Fatty) Arbuckle and his wife Minta Durfee - both worked at the Keystone Studio. The music is "Aw You Dog!" performed by Cab Calloway. Tags: Luke dog roscoe arbuckle fatty minta durfee cab calloway keystone sennett silent |

Mickey Mouse Piano Solo - The Opry House (1929) This is a short clip from an early b&w Mickey Mouse cartoon called "The Opry House". It shows the first time in an animated film where the "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C-sharp minor" is used. This tune would become famous in animation history due to later cartoons such as "Rhapsody in Rivets", "The Cat Concerto" and "Rhapsody Rabbit". And if you watch closely, you'll see that "Rhapsody Rabbit" borrowed heavily upon this performance by Mickey, as they use the same general situation and have a number of similar gags. ==================== Note that I am now moderating the comments because of some bad apples. Croon Crazy - Cubby Bear (1933) In "Croon Crazy" Cubby Bear is the host of a live radio show who finds all his guests cancelling at the last moment, leaving him to impersonate them. The guests include stars such as Al Jolson, Mae West and Paul Whiteman. About Cubby Bear: in the early 1930s every cartoon studio was trying to mimic the success of Disney's Mickey Mouse by creating similar characters of their own. Cubby Bear was the Mickey Mouse clone created at the Van Beuren studio and appeared in 20 cartoons in 1933 and 1934. Tags: cubby bear van beuren sharples croon whiteman jolson |
