Peter Herbolzheimer - Better Days Ahead (1995) A brilliant cover of the Pat Metheny classic. Great guitar and piano solos in particular. Peter Herbolzheimer in the 80s and 90s was less funky than the 70s... but boy they sure were hellishly tight.. Tags: Peter Herbolzheimer Pat Metheny Tiehus Joerg Reiter |

Judd Miller (Steiner EVI) - Summer Waltz (1994) From my old VHS collection comes this. Its a real beautiful ballad that just takes me away... (sorry for sound quality).. I could imagine something similar coming from Kenny Wheeler... Notable for Judds brilliant use of the Steiner EVI with the Oberheim Xpander. Also check for Mitchell Forman's lovely piano solo and exquisite usage of synth pads behind Judds solo... a masterclass in modern keys and Judd in another world with the EVI. Please let me know if this is available on a CD/mp3. Tags: Judd Miller Mitchell Forman Joel Taylor Oberheim Xpander EVI Steiner jazz electonica fusion cool |

Gentlemen - My Ego's Hurting Me (1976) Ahh.. Tony Wilson... looking cool in denim... RIP... Rock band with progressive flavours... great sounding Hohner pianet! Not my kind of thing normally but I think this is quite catchy.. plus I love anything that reminds me of my childhood and this is a real slab of nostalgia with all the long hair and bad fashions (and this from a guy with long hair and bad fashions! ;-) ) Not sure what became of Gentleman.. did they ever release an LP? Hopefully someone will write a message.. This was from the late Tony's TV show "So it Goes" from 1976 Granada TV. Tags: Tony Wilson Anthony Progressive Prog Rock 70s so it goes 1976 |

Peter Herbolzheimer R C and B - Wild Chick (1974) This is a live studio outtake from a standards session that involved Ella Fitzgerald. However, in the midst of all this they cut this groovy number! This isn't as good to my ears as the version on the Wait A Minute LP from 1973 featuring Sigi Schwab but its gold dust all the same... The version here has Dieter Reith on Hammond, Philip Catherine on Sitar, Art Farmer on Trumpet, Ack Van Rooyen on Trumpet... probably the usual Herbolzheimer regulars too... Manfred Schoof Quintet - Ostinato (1977) My first video upload in a while... but what a track to start with.. Shades of Herbies Mwandishi period but somehow this transcends that to me... plus the bass player is wearing a cravat and an amazing moustache of that time period... :-) beautiful bass line, intense flugel, lovely synth organ... can't get better than that!
