THE NIGHT HE CAME HOME 1/3 Kermode/Carpenter BBC interview The first of three parts of a 1999 30-minute interview with John Carpenter by Mark Kermode. The interview focuses on Halloween, and though it doesn't really feature anything new fans of the film won't know already, it's still fun and of interest. CREEPSHOW 2 (1987) video teaser This is the teaser for Creepshow 2 that appeared on a few New World Video releases in the late 80's, and is not featured on any of the DVD releases. Not sure who's playing the Creep, but it probably isn't Tom Savini! Apparently a re-edited version of this ad was also used to publicise US TV airings of the film. Ripped from Video Detective. HEATHERS aka LETHAL ATTRACTION (1989) trailer Heathers is such a great movie, you'd figure it would be impossible to make it look crap in a trailer, wouldn't you? Think again! This is the horrible, horrible European trailer that went out under the terrible alternate title Lethal Attraction. (Michael Lehmann and Daniel Waters subsequently took to calling it "Fatal Weapon".) Stars Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, Shannen Doherty, Lisanne Falk and Kim Walker. Directed by Michael Lehmann, produced by Denise DeNovi and written by Daniel Waters. WAXWORK II: LOST IN TIME (1992) UK trailer The British video trailer for Anthony Hickox's Waxwork II: Lost In Time, which was released as Lost In Time as a none-too-subtle attempt to pass it off as a stand-alone film. Much more fun than the American trailer, which is really just a long series of extended clips. Gotta love that theme song! THE REFLECTING SKIN (1990) theatrical trailer The trailer for the amazing debut feature by Philip Ridley (The Krays, The Passion Of Darkly Noon), starring Viggo Mortensen, Lindsay Duncan and Jeremy Cooper. The film tells the tale of a little boy amidst the 1950s Idaho wheatfields who believes the English widow living nearby is a vampire, with tragic consequences. You either hate this film with a passion or think it's one of the most brilliant things you've ever seen. Taken from the Japanese DVD. SALEM'S LOT (1979) alternate gun scene Two versions of this scene were filmed for the TV miniseries Salem's Lot. In one version, George Dzundra tells Fred Willard to put the gun in front of his face. In this version, Willard is told to put the gun in his mouth. This was seen as too intense for television (where the former version was shown), but was included in the two-hour version released in cinemas outside the US. In the recent DVD release, all the extra scenes from the theatrical version were included, except this one. (There's also some different music in that version.) Here it is, ripped from the original VHS. Tags: salem's salems lot 1979 stephen king tobe hooper fred willard george dzundra vampire horror rare alternate TV |

DEMONIACA - Italian version of DUST DEVIL (1992) The Italian video version of Richard Stanley's Dust Devil, re-titled Demoniaca, is very different from the Final Cut of the film available on DVD. It is missing 20 minutes and features some alternate dialogue and scenes. (This was also the version initially released in America by Miramax.) These are the highlights of the different/extended scenes from Demoniaca (in Italian only, alas). Some of them feature in the "workprint" from the Subversive Cinema DVD. This video is a companion to an essay about the different versions of Dust Devil I wrote for my blog (http://terrorobscura.blogspot.com). An expanded version of this essay will soon be published on the Richard Stanley website, Between Death And The Devil (http://www.everythingisundercontrol.org/nagtloper). THE SENDER (1982) opening five minutes The opening five minutes of the vastly underrated psychological horror film The Sender, starring Zeljko Ivanek and Shirley Knight. The film tells the tale of an anonymous young man in a mental ward who has the supernatural ability to control reality with the power of his mind, keeping the audience in suspense as to whether what they're watching is real or coming from his head. The director, Roger Christian, went on to helm the infamous Battlefield Earth, but don't let that put you off; this was his first film, and he shows enormous promise here. The film has yet to be released on DVD by Paramount - hopefully they will correct this at some future date. Clip copyright of Paramount Pictures. Charles Band interview (Stephen King's This Is Horror) An interesting interview with Charles Band, recorded just as he was starting Full Moon Productions. TROLL 3: THE SWORD OF POWER (sequel to TROLL 2) In 1991, a cheap Italian-produced swords-and-sorcery flick called Ator IV: Quest For The Mighty Sword (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100448/) was retitled Troll 3: Das Schwert Der Macht (The Sword Of Power) in Germany, to cash in on the video success of the notorious Troll 2 (http://www.bestworstmovie.com). Its retitling was not totally unjustified - directed by Troll 2's producer, the infamous Joe D'Amato, the film was also produced by his company Filmirage, re-uses some of Troll 2's crew as well as some very familiar-looking creature masks... Filmirage made another film sometimes known as Troll 3, but better known as The Crawlers or Contamination .7 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106620/). Here are the highlights of the troll (sorry, goblin) scenes from "Troll 3". Some of the scenes have been cut down, mostly just very long, boring shots of people walking used to pad out the film. "Nilbloggers" beware though - these scenes are the ONLY traces of any connection to Troll 2 in this movie. No mention of "an ancient city of Nilbog", I'm afraid. And yes - this film makes Troll 2 look like Citizen Kane. Marvel at the wonders of the second troll, who must have been the vocal template for Napoleon Dynamite. And pity the poor actress who had to hump one of them... TRIVIA: The little man in this clip was murdered in Italy to much notoriety a couple of years later. COHEN AND TATE (1989) theatrical trailer The trailer for the underrated, excellent 1989 thriller Cohen & Tate, written and directed by Eric Red (The Hitcher, Near Dark, Body Parts). A young boy, soon to testify at a Mob trial, is kidnapped by two squabbling hitmen. The boy's only chance at survival is to turn the ill-matched pair against each other, and not get caught in the bloody crossfire... Stars Roy Scheider, Adam Baldwin (playing what seems like an early version of his Jayne character from Firefly/Serenity) and Harley Cross. This film is not yet available on DVD. The rights are owned by MGM/UA. Tags: cohen and tate 1989 eric red roy scheider adam baldwin harley cross thriller road movie trailer not on dvd |

FROM BEYOND (1986) rare extended transformation scene This is an extended version of the scene in Stuart Gordon's From Beyond (1986) where Dr Pretorious transforms for the first time. It is compiled from two different masters - the final cut of the film (taken from an Asian DVD), and rare workprint footage seen in the 1989 documentary Stephen King's This Is Horror (from a Danish DVD). There's no sound in the rare scenes, but don't worry, the subtitles are just from a Charles Band interview originally running over the top. The new inserts are NOT featured in the Director's Cut that aired on Monsters HD. NOTE: Contains gore FX some may find upsetting.
