A Shropshire Pastoral for oboe and strings The main melody originally belonged to a setting I composed of no 36 of A.E. Housman's A Shropshire Lad for tenor and piano. A couple of years ago it came back to me, almost demanding to be a piece for oboe and strings. So here is my nostalgic Shropshire Pastoral, unashamedly harking back to the world of Housman and Vaughan Williams, and to an England that existed only ever, really, in the imagination.
