Rasheed Wallace had 25 points and 13 rebounds, Allen Iverson added 25 points and the Pistons handed the Lakers their first loss of the season, 106-95 Friday night. The win was the Pistons' eighth in the last 10 meetings. Kobe Bryant scored 29 points for the Lakers, but went 12-of-30 from the floor. "We just played a good all-around game," Iverson said after the Pistons won for the third time since his arrival from Denver five games ago. "It's just about playing basketball, understanding what we want to do on the basketball court. "We didn't feel like it would take long, but we knew it would be kind of shaky in the beginning because I'm a totally different player than Chauncey Billups. I'm a lot more aggressive when it comes to driving to the basket, so my teammates have to know what spot I want them to be in to be able to create shots for them." In winning their first seven, the Lakers had averaged a league-high 104.7 points and held opponents to a league-low 86.7. The Pistons obviously beat them on both ends of the court, with Los Angeles becoming the final NBA team to lose this season. "We just played defense," Iverson said. "We made them take tough, contested shots. When they missed, we got out and ran and took advantage. On the offensive end, we just attacked all night." Bryant said the Pistons presented a "matchup issue" for the Lakers' defense. "With Rasheed Wallace at the 5, and his ability to stretch the floor, it opened up the lanes for the guards," Bryant said. "We didn't shoot particularly well, but those guys were hot, too, in the first half and third quarter and kept us at bay. "They're one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, obviously. And they caught us on a night when they were hot as a pistol and we were pretty cold." The Pistons shot 51 percent and the Lakers 42 percent. Wallace, the Pistons' center, went 4-of-9 from 3-point range. Detroit usually plays rugged defense against Bryant, who had 17 points through the first three quarters as the Pistons took command. They have held him to 20 or fewer points in five of the last nine meetings. The Pistons beat the Lakers in Los Angeles despite playing back-to-back games -- Detroit won at Golden State the previous night. Both Bryant and Iverson moved up on the NBA's career scoring list. Bryant has 21,817 points and jumped into 21st ahead of Larry Bird (21,791) and Gary Payton (21,813). Iverson (23,156) passed Elgin Baylor (23,149) to jump to No. 19. Tayshaun Prince added 18 points in Detroit's balanced scoring. Former Laker Kwame Brown had a double-double, with 10 rebounds and 10 points, and Richard Hamilton also scored 10. Just when it seemed like his fourth-quarter mistakes might doom Detroit, Wallace hit back-to-back 3-pointers that gave the Pistons the lead for good and sent them to a 107-102 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night. "That really hurt my feelings, that tip," Wallace said. "You can't let that frustrate you. I missed two point-blank foul shots. I'm upset at myself about that. You can't let that one thing get you down. That's what we did, just dug deep and came up with some stops down the stretch." Richard Hamilton scored 24 points and Allen Iverson added 23 as the Pistons won for the second straight time to open their four-game road trip after losing their first two games with Iverson. But just like in Tuesday night's win in Sacramento, the Pistons started slowly before turning it on defensively in the second half. With a game against the undefeated Los Angeles Lakers coming up Friday night, Detroit is looking for a complete game to extend that winning streak. "The best part about it is we struggled at times in the game but we got it done," Iverson said. "We're going into the next game with some confidence. We're on a back-to-back so it's important for us to go get our rest and get ready to play. It's going to be a good measuring stick for us." Golden State trailed by nine early in the fourth quarter but took the lead when Wallace tipped a missed shot by C.J. Watson into the wrong basket. Andris Biedrins was credited with the basket that gave Golden State an 87-86 lead. Wallace then missed two free throws on the other end and the Warriors extended the lead to four points. But with Detroit down by two, Wallace hit a 3-pointer to give the Pistons the lead for good. After Watson stepped over the sideline for an inbound violation, Wallace hit another from long range to make it 96-92 with just over 3 minutes remaining. "I know he was upset when he missed those two free throws," Tayshaun Prince said. "Normally if you go back to him he will try to respond. He was able to do that." Wallace finished with a season-high 19 points and 11 rebounds. Prince grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds. The mistake by Watson on the inbound was one of the final ones on a blunder-filled night by both teams that featured 33 turnovers and many other miscues. "First of all, the point guard's not supposed to take the ball out," coach Don Nelson said. "It was an error by a young player. Iverson just faked like he was going to go for a steal and he did a dumb thing. It's not the only one he did but he actually played a pretty good game." Biedrins had 17 points and 19 rebounds for his 16th straight double-double for the Warriors, who are still seeking their first back-to-back wins of the season. Watson and Stephen Jackson also scored 17 points apiece. But Golden State made only one 3-pointer for the game and shot just 35 percent in the second half. "We can't win if I go out and shoot 6-for-20," Jackson said. "It's going to be hard for us to win, point blank." The Warriors built a 12-point lead early in the third quarter as they got into the lane and the foul line with ease. Detroit committed the first five fouls of the quarter, with Corey Maggette taking 10 free throws in the first 5:03. But a missed dunk by Biedrins that could have made it a 13-point game seemed to spark Detroit. Iverson scored quickly on the other end and Arron Afflalo hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to six. That started a 17-2 run that gave Detroit a 75-71 lead. Afflalo scored eight points during the spurt, including the final five. The Warriors committed turnovers on five straight possessions during the run. They didn't make a field goal for the final 5:41 of the third quarter, falling behind 80-73 heading into the fourth. By the time Ronny Turiaf hit a jumper early in the fourth, the Warriors had missed 11 straight shots and gone 6:50 without a basket. "Obviously that was a typical Detroit team in the second half," Prince said. "In the first half, I don't know what that was. We've done it two games in a row. Obviously we're not on the same page yet." Game notes Maggette had 13 points in his first game back after missing four games with a strained left hamstring. ... After losing his first two games with his new team, that wasn't the case with this victory. Iverson had 30 points, nine assists and provided a spark for Detroit after a slow start, winning his first game since joining the Pistons, 100-92 over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night. "It was a huge lift off of me," Iverson said. "I knew it would happen. You think every game you go out and play it's going to happen. It feels good. I wanted to get the monkey off my back. I'm just excited that I got my first win and I can now try to get a lot more." Tayshaun Prince added 26 points and 11 rebounds for the Pistons, who had lost their first two games since acquiring Iverson from Denver last week for All-Star point guard Chauncey Billups, key reserve Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb. After falling behind by 15 points early in the opener of a four-game West Coast road trip, the Pistons fought back and beat the short-handed Kings for their first win with the former league MVP. "I feel like in the first couple of games I wasn't as aggressive as they wanted me to be," he said. It was just carelessness on our part." Theus was also upset about the foul shooting disparity, calling it "ridiculous" that a road team got 36 fouls shots to just 17 for the Kings. Iverson hit a big 3-pointer early in the quarter but the Pistons could not pull away. With the lead at two with under 2 minutes left, Thompson fouled Prince on a jump shot and he made both free throws to make it 94-90. After a turnover by Beno Udrih at the other end, Richard Hamilton scored on a pretty give-and-go to make it a six-point game. Spencer Hawes scored 19 points and Udrih added 18 for the Kings, who had won the first three games on their four-game homestand after starting the season 0-4 on the road. "I really feel like we outplayed them for 42 minutes," Theus said. "They are a veteran team and know how to win games down the stretch." The Kings scored 14 straight points early in the first quarter, holding Detroit scoreless for more than 5 minutes. The Pistons tightened up defensively and whittled away at the lead in the second quarter, going into the half tied at 50. "I just want the guys to concentrate on the defensive end," coach Michael Curry said. "Because if we defend, we're going to find ways to score the basketball. We're just too talented not to score the basketball." Hamilton, who failed to make a basket for just the second time in 580 career starts Sunday against Boston, missed his first seven shots. Harris scored a career-high 38 points Friday night, outplaying Iverson in the second half and leading the New Jersey Nets to a 103-96 victory over the Pistons. New Jersey, which trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half, played some of its best basketball of the season in the final two periods to hand the Pistons their first loss after four wins to open the season. "It was just about playing hard," Harris said. "We didn't get off to the best start. We have been really struggling in the third quarter but tonight we came out with more aggressiveness. Points for me didn't matter. It was all about the win. We desperately needed this for our confidence's sake." Vince Carter and Josh Boone each scored 18 for New Jersey, which got its first home win after two losses. Boone also pulled down 14 rebounds. Allen Iverson spoke at length about the ways hes grown as a person and a player, saying hes willing to make sacrifices to complete his career with a championship as a Detroit Piston. The former NBA MVP then set himself up Tuesday for an exchange that showed hes mature enough to be the butt of the joke. One thing is for sure, Im going to do whatever the coach wants me to do, Iverson said. Even practice? Joe Dumars asked, mockingly. PRACTICE?! Iverson replied with a sparkling smile, using the word he spoke over and over in Philadelphia in 2002. Dumars, the Pistons president of basketball operations, welcomed Iverson at a packed news conference and delved into a deal that has created unprecedented excitement for a storied franchise with three NBA titles. I cant think of one that has created this kind of buzz, said Dumars, who has been a Pistons player and executive for two-plus decades. He brings a certain stature with him that only a handful of guys in this league can bring. The Pistons were close to trading for Iverson from Philadelphia entering the 2000-01 season, but 76ers center Matt Geiger used a clause in his contract to nix the deal. Then, the Pistons watched Iverson lead Philadelphia to the NBA finals and become league MVP. Eight years later, Detroit is hoping The Answer was worth the wait. Iverson does, too. I want to be the piece that gets us over the hump, he said. Ive done so many things in this league, being an All-Star and scoring champion and things like that, but I havent accomplished my No. 1 goal and that is to win a championship.
