CRAIG MORRISON & THE MOMENTZ break up MONTREAL 2007 Craig Morrison is a Montreal ethnomusicologist and musician. Raised in Victoria BC, he bought his first guitar in 1966 and played in coffeehouses. As a teenager, seeing concerts of blues (beginning with Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee), jazz (including Louis Armstrong), and rock (including Janis Joplin) led to an interest in music history. Playing in bands gave him a deeper appreciation of music styles. He sings, plays guitar, keyboards, and lap steel guitar, and has also recorded on mandolin, clarinet, harmonica, and upright bass. After researching rockabilly for a masters thesis at York University (Toronto), eventually expanded and published in 1996 as Go Cat Go! Rockabilly Music and Its Makers by the University of Illinois Press, Morrison moved to Montreal in 1984. He formed Craig Morrison and the Momentz, a band specializing in roots rock. He also wrote articles for the Encyclopedia Britannica and several other reference books, until he was asked to write a whole one by himself: American Popular Music: Rock and Roll, published in 2005 by Facts on File of New York. Morrison earned his Ph.D. in 2000 at Concordia University, writing his thesis on San Francisco psychedelic music. He taught for five years at McGill University and currently teaches at Concordia University in the Department of Music on rock and roll and its sources in ragtime, jazz, blues, folk, country, gospel, and pop. Besides his two books, Morrison has three CDs on the market: Rocket Radio, Live At the Oscar, a recording of one of his annual roots of rock and roll shows at the Oscar Peterson Concert Hall, and an album of bluegrass called Echoes From the Blue Angel. He also plays for parties, weddings, and conventions in a trio called Vintage Wine, and teaches private music lessons. My Blue Note Record collection in HD YOU CAN WATCH THIS VIDEO IN FULL HD AT: http://www.vimeo.com/2266710 This is my jazz record collection on BLUE NOTE records. I realize that watching me flip through my record collection is as boring as it gets but hey, maybe there's more Blue Note fans out there like me ?! My name is JF, i have worked in several record stores for the past 12 years. Today, i am a music programmer for a jukebox company. This is my 2nd video about my Blue Note record collection. My 1st video on YouTube got 4,000x plays and many Blue Note fans left me great feedback. youtube.com/watch?v=lAOYST8ovVw I was even asked to be interviewed several times by people in the USA, Europe and Japan ! Cool. I thought i'd film again my Blue Note collection in HD. You may not fully understand how hard to find these albums are or how much fun it is to go record hunting. Buying cd's is easy. You can walk in any record shop and find Miles Davis and John Coltrane cd's anywhere. But with vinyl, it's a totally different experience. Vinyl is much harder to find, especially original pressings in great condition. So when you find an album you have been looking for for the last 2, 3 years, it's one hell of a rush. "NO FREAKIN' WAY !! LOOK WHAT I FOUND !?! I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS ALBUM FOREVER !! NIIIIIIIICE" Does finding a cd give you the same feeling ? If you're a record collector, you'll most likely agree with me and understand what i'm talking about. There's just nothing like vinyl. It's as close as you'll get to touching rock & roll history. You can sit down at home comfortably, touch and feel the album sleeve and artwork, take the record out, place SIDE 1 on your turntable and drop the needle. And now realize you are enjoying a great moment of peace in your life. Tags: blue note records jazz john coltrane miles davis art blakey jimmy smith collector alfred lion francis wolf horace silver |

NOFX last song of the show + Pretty Vacant YOU CAN WATCH THIS VIDEO IN HIGH DEFINITION (HD) AT http://www.vimeo.com/2232704 Punk Empire is a DIY videomagazine created by Jean-Francois Hayeur in 1994. Over the last 14 years, the Punk Empire team composed of JF, Mat and Andy, has filmed and interviewed bands such as Green Day, Blink-182, Afi, Pennywise, The Lunachicks, Mxpx, Sick of it All, Good Riddance, The Queers, Diesel boy, Jughead's revenge, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Down by law, Satanic Surfers, Bracket, Anti-Flag, Ten Foot Pole, 88 Fingers Louie, Goldfinger, No use for a Name, Fugazi and more. During the 1990s, Punk Empire was a modest, "in-your-basement" video project with no more than 200 VHS copies being exchanged between friends, bands and promoters in the Montreal area. YouTube then came along in 2005 and was the perfect platform for Punk Empire. Thousands of music fans across the world could immediately watch our videos. Goodbye VHS ! Since then, we have uploaded 500 of our videos on YouTube and they've been viewed nearly 2 Million times: youtube.com/user/punk2116. We are now counting 35,000 MySpace friends on our network. You can read our story at myspace.com/punkempire All this has been possible because of Do-It-Yourself ethics such as trust, respect, honnesty, friendship and a strong passion for music. All in all, for the good health of the DIY subculture. Punk Empire's purpose is to document and support great music & musicians and expose them to the world through short video capsules. Over the years, we have won the bands, the promoters and the record companies' trust and we thank them for it.
