Barack Obama speaking in the rain in Chester, PA, 28 October 2008 Barack Obama is not afraid of the cold - good for America!!! +++ From the press, one day later: Barack Obama spent part of Tuesday outside in the rain in Chester, PA, while John McCain postponed his outside rally in nearby Quakertown. Dressed in sneakers and jeans, the rain pouring down as he spoke, Obama addressed the 9,000 who turned out. ""Let me just begin by saying that a little bit of rain never hurt anybody." While John McCain cancelled one event in Pennsylvania owing to the foul weather, Barack Obama paid tribute to more than 9,000 hardy supporters who turned out at an outdoors rally, despite freezing rain and driving winds "If we see this kind of dedication on election day, there is no way that we're not going to bring change to America," Obama said +++ Democrat Barack Obama carried on Tuesday with an outdoor rally at Widener University, outside Philadelphia, despite a cold, steady rain that made the temperature feel freezing. About 9,000 people came out to hear the presidential contender. They stood in mud. I just want all of you to know that if we see this kind of dedication on Election Day, there is no way that were not going to bring change to America, Obama told the shivering crowd. The weather was so miserable that Obamas rival, Republican John McCain, canceled a rally 50 miles north in Quakertown — hardly insignificant, given the dwindling campaign time. Even Major League Baseball suspended the fifth game of the World Series in Philadelphia because of the same wet conditions Monday night, a first in the history of the baseball championship. Sarah Palin has unwittingly taken a prank call from a Canadian comedian posing as French President Nicolas Sarkozy and told him she may make a good president in eight years. The Republican vice presidential nominee discussed politics, the perils of hunting with Vice President Dick Cheney, and Sarkozy's "beautiful wife," in the telephone call released Saturday. Sarah Palin still hasn't released her medical records (1 November) 1 November 2008 - see the ABC website from today: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/11/day-six-and-sti.html And Andrew Sullivan: http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/11/palins-medical.html http://www.laprogressive.com/2008/11/02/whats-going-on-with-sarah-palins-medical-records/ Sarah Palin still hasn't released ANY health records - not even a simple statement of one of her doctors. Nothing at all. ALL other candidates have released quite extensive records - although there remain some doubts about the seriousness of John McCain's cancer. By the way: Barack Obama has, contrary to republican disinformation, released very detailed information about his health and his previous health checks. For the details, see the following link: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/20/us/politics/20health.html?8br=&pagewanted=all Regarding Barack Obama's health - from the New York Times (October 2008): Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, 47, the Democratic presidential nominee, released a one-page, undated letter from his personal physician in May stating that he was in excellent health. Late last week, his campaign released the results of standard laboratory tests and electrocardiograms from his checkups in June 2001, November 2004 and January 2007. The findings were normal. Regarding the open questions about John McCain's record: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/19/new-york-times-publishing_n_136002.html So, what has Sarah Palin got to hide? Although the MSM has been quite silent about this in the past, questions are now being asked because Sarah Palin herself gave the promise to release her health records and now, three days before polling day, NO STATEMENT WHATSOEVER has been given. Oh, and who else never released his health records? George W. Bush..... Sarah Palin gets hysterical and ignores shouting of "ni**er" at rally Ok, can it get ANY worse now? Now Obama's tax plans, where 95% of the population would have to pay lower taxes, would create a country "where the people are not free" (socialism/communism/anarchism???). Sarah Palin says in this speech, amongst other things: "See, under a big government, more tax agenda, what you thought was yours would really start belonging to somebody else, to everybody else." This is just insane ranting. And then she says that it's a bad thing if government "takes care of us". Well, what's government supposed to do? Sit and drink coffee and watch the country fall apart? And this is not even the worse thing...in 0:56 a woman in the crowd clearly shouts "because he is a ni**er!", and Palin must have heard it, because there was absolute silence at this point, and she raises her voice afterwards. Sarah Palin spent $ 150,000 in one month for clothes - The devil wears Prada! Since her selection as John McCain's running mate, the Republican National Committee spent more than $150,000 on clothing and make-up for Gov. Sarah Palin, her husband, and even her infant son, it was reported on Tuesday evening. That entertaining scoop -- which came by way of Politico -- sent almost immediate reverberations through the presidential race. A statement from McCain headquarters released hours after the article bemoaned the triviality of the whole affair. "With all of the important issues facing the country right now, it's remarkable that we're spending time talking about pantsuits and blouses," said spokesperson Tracey Schmitt. "It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign." But even the most timid of Democrats are unlikely to heed this call for civility. For starters, the story has the potential to dampen enthusiasm among GOP activists and donors at a critical point in the presidential race. It also creates a huge PR headache for the McCain ticket as it seeks to make inroads among voters worried about the current economic crisis. Mainly, however, Democrats (in this scenario) are not prone to forgiveness. After all, it was during this same campaign cycle that Republicans belittled the $400 haircut that former Sen. John Edwards had paid for with his own campaign money (the funds were later reimbursed). And yet, the comparison to that once-dominant news story is hardly close: if Edwards had gotten one of his legendary haircuts every singe week, it would still take him 7.2 years to spend what Palin has spent. Palin has received the equivalent of $2,500 in clothes per day from places such as Saks Fifth Avenue (where RNC expenditures totaled nearly $50,000) and Neiman Marcus (where the governor had a $75,000 spree). Sarah Palin expenses scandal - she charged taxpayer for her kid's travel Associated Press: ANCHORAGE, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, including to events where they were not invited, and later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business. The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel. In all, Palin has charged the state $21,012 for her three daughters' 64 one-way and 12 round-trip commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. In some other cases, she has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls. Alaska law does not specifically address expenses for a governor's children. The law allows for payment of expenses for anyone conducting official state business. As governor, Palin justified having the state pay for the travel of her daughters — Bristol, 17; Willow, 14; and Piper, 7 — by noting on travel forms that the girls had been invited to attend or participate in events on the governor's schedule. But some organizers of these events said they were surprised when the Palin children showed up uninvited, or said they agreed to a request by the governor to allow the children to attend. Several other organizers said the children merely accompanied their mother and did not participate. The trips enabled Palin, whose main state office is in the capital of Juneau, to spend more time with her children. "She said any event she can take her kids to is an event she tries to attend," said Jennifer McCarthy, who helped organize the June 2007 Family Day Celebration picnic in Ketchikan that Piper attended with her parents. On Aug. 6, three weeks before Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain chose Palin his running mate, and after Alaska reporters asked for the records, Palin ordered changes to previously filed expense reports for her daughters' travel. In the amended reports, Palin added phrases such as "First Family attending" and "First Family invited" to explain the girls' attendance. "The governor said, 'I want the purpose and the reason for this travel to be clear,'" said Linda Perez, state director of administrative services. When Palin released her family's tax records as part of her vice presidential campaign, some tax experts questioned why she did not report the children's state travel reimbursements as income. The Palins released a review by a Washington attorney who said state law allows the children's travel expenses to be reimbursed and not taxed when they conduct official state business. Taylor Griffin, a McCain-Palin campaign spokesman, said Palin followed state policy allowing governors to charge for their children's travel. He said the governor's office has invitations requesting the family to attend some events, but he said he did not have them to provide. In October 2007, Palin brought daughter Bristol along on a trip to New York for a women's leadership conference. Plane tickets from Anchorage to La Guardia Airport for $1,385.11 were billed to the state, records show, and mother and daughter shared a room for four nights at the $707.29-per-night Essex House hotel, which overlooks Central Park. The event's organizers said Palin asked if she could bring her daughter. In January, the governor, Willow and Piper showed up at the Alaska Symphony of Seafood Buffet, an Anchorage gala to announce winners of an earlier seafood competition. "She was just there," said James Browning, executive director of Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation, which runs the event. Griffin said the governor's office received an invitation that was not specifically addressed to anyone. When Palin amended her children's expense reports, she listed a role for the two girls at the function — "to draw two separate raffle tickets." In the original travel form, Palin listed a number of events that her children attended and said they were there "in official capacity helping." She did not identify any specific roles for the girls. In July, the governor charged the state $2,741.26 to take Bristol and Piper to Philadelphia for a meeting of the National Governors Association. The girls had their own room for five nights at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel for $215.46 a night, expense records show. Expense forms describe the girls' official purpose as "NGA Governor's Youth Programs and family activities." But those programs were activities designed to keep children busy, a service provided by the NGA to accommodate governors and their families, NGA spokeswoman Jodi Omear said. Finally: CNN exposes Sarah Palin's ties to AIP radicals It took a long while until the mainstream media has picked it up - and this immediately received a furious ties from the McCain/Palin campaign: Sarah Palin indeed had strong connection to the radicals from the Alaskan Independent Party (AIP) - and her husband Todd Palin was a member of this radical right-wing organization from 1995 to 2002! Please note that Todd Palin just a few days ago also exposed as a "de facto second governor" of Alaska, taking over administrative tasks from Sarah Palin! (see the youtube video: watch?v=dkH2tSHMmHA). In a pathetic response, the McCain/Palin campaign claimed that this CNN report was comparable with questioning Barack Obama's "religious beliefs". FUNNY: Sarah Palin has NEVER seen Russia from Alaska (CNN) There go her foreign policy credentials!! I just have discovered this clip, it's really too funny... +++ Just when you thought the whole "I can see Russia from Alaska" thing couldn't get any funnier...CNN's Gary Tuchman delivers the goods: it turns out that Sarah Palin has never seen Russia from Alaska. Tuchman went up to the part of Alaska from which you can actually see Russia, a remote island called Little Diomede located just 2.4 miles from its Russian twin, Big Diomede. It turns out Gary Tuchman's trip to Little Diomede sets him apart from Sarah Palin -- because she's never actually been there, nor has she set eyes on its neighbor in Russia. Here's the video of Tuchman's report: Tuchman says that only 150 people live on Little Diomede, and that the town of Diomede has no streets and no cars. The poverty rate is over 40%, there is no television, and the only practical way to reach it is by helicopter. Anchorage (near Palin's hometown) is 550 miles away. No Alaskan governor has ever visited Little Diomede, though indicted U.S. Senator Ted Stevens has made the trip. The town's residents barely knew who Palin was, and one of them didn't know she was the VP nominee. It's going to be fun watching McCain-land spin this one, and it's going to be even more fun watching Tina Fey parody it. CNN: Todd Palin acted as "second governor" of Alaska A month after she became governor, Sarah Palin's staff ushered Alaska's public safety commissioner into her private office. But Palin wasn't there. Her husband, Todd, had called the meeting. He was frustrated that his former brother-in-law remained on the job as a state trooper, and he prevailed upon the commissioner to get rid of him. "I thought that was odd and made me a little uncomfortable," said Walter Monegan, the commissioner, who later was fired by Gov. Palin. "We're having it in the governor's office, and he's not the governor. I think he was trying to use state trappings to handle a personal issue." The January 2007 meeting was part of a long pattern of pressure that she and her husband applied on state officials to try to get the trooper fired, according to an Alaska legislative report released Friday. The report said those contacts amounted to an abuse of power and a violation of the state's ethics laws, which prohibit using public office for personal benefit. But while the condemnation of now-vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin was the conclusion, the nearly 300-page report by investigator Stephen Branchflower was more about her husband. Todd Palin, the self-described "first dude" of Alaska, had extraordinary access to his wife's office, her staff and her power. Todd Palin spent about 50 percent of his time in the governor's office, making phone calls, participating in meetings or just hanging out, said Gary Wheeler, a member of Gov. Palin's security detail. "He had a significant influence, in that he was always interacting with the, the employees there," Wheeler told state investigators. "Any time I needed to get information to the governor, I would always go through Todd." The governor and her staff kept Todd Palin in the loop on a wide range of issues, copying him on e-mails about union matters, public relations and a bill requiring parental consent for abortions. His efforts to get Mike Wooten, Sarah Palin's sister's ex-husband, fired were extensive. Todd Palin held dozens of meetings and phone calls with state officials, alleging that Wooten threatened the Palin family, was too unstable to be a trooper, and was cheating the worker's compensation system. Todd Palin would not answer a question about the report during a campaign stop Saturday. GOP presidential candidate John McCain's spokesman in New Hampshire, Jeff Grappone, said Palin would not take questions from the media during his visit. But in an affidavit he provided to investigators, he made no apologies. "I have heard criticism that I am too involved in my wife's administration," he wrote. "My wife and I are very close. We are each other's best friend. I have helped her in her career the best I can, and she has helped me." Taylor Griffin, a spokesman for John McCain's presidential campaign, compared Todd Palin's role to that of other political spouses. First lady Eleanor Roosevelt was a vocal player in labor civil rights issues, Hillary Rodham Clinton took on health care while first lady, and Nancy Reagan was a close adviser to her husband. "The role that Todd has played, I don't think is dissimilar from other spouses, and I think it's an entirely appropriate role," Griffin said. "And Todd will play an appropriate role as the spouse of the vice president." The legislative probe began as an investigation into whether Palin improperly fired Monegan for resisting efforts to fire Wooten. The report concluded that Monegan's firing was legal, because Palin had the right to choose her top administrators, but that the pressure Palin and her husband exerted to try to get Wooten fired was improper. Palin originally pledged cooperation with the legislative inquiry, which was approved by a bipartisan vote of a committee on which Republicans are the majority. After McCain tapped Palin as his running mate, however, accusations of political interference quickly pushed the personnel matter into the national spotlight. Democratic state Sen. Hollis French drew heavy criticism for saying the investigation could provide an "October surprise" for the McCain campaign. That allowed the McCain-Palin campaign to dismiss Friday's report as a political smear. The McCain campaign even issued its own rival report clearing Palin of all wrongdoing. "I think it did turn into a partisan circus," Palin said Saturday in a brief conference call with Alaska reporters. She said she was pleased that the investigation upheld her authority to fire Monegan. She said she disagrees with the report's finding that she abused her power. Though the committee's report reached some stinging conclusions, it was largely toothless. The Legislature has no authority to sanction Palin for ethical misconduct. That's up to the state Personnel Board, which is running a parallel investigation that Palin is cooperating with. Sarah Palin laughs while Senator is mocked as a "cancer" !! I am reposting this clip because everybody should listen to this - it shows what a disgusting person Sarah Palin actually is... She really shows her family values here... +++ Early this year, an op-ed in the Anchorage Daily News ripped into Gov. Sarah Palin's appearance on a morning "shock jock" radio show as "plain and simple one of the most unprofessional, childish and inexcusable performances I've ever seen from a politician." So what happened? Palin has repeatedly feuded with the state's Senate president, Lyda Green, over a wide range of legislation. Last January, Palin appeared on "The Bob and Mark Show," whose host Bob Lester despises Green. That's when the trouble started: Early on in the conversation before Palin started to crack up, Lester referred to Sen. Green as a jealous woman and a cancer. Palin, who knows full well Lyda Green is a cancer survivor, didn't do what any decent person would do, say, "Bob, that's going too far." But as the conversation moved on, Lester intensified his attack on Green. Lester questioned Green's motherhood, asking Palin if the senator cares about her own kids. Palin laughs. Then Lester clearly sets the stage for what he is about to say by warning his large audience and Palin. He says, "Governor you can't say this but I will, Lyda Green is a cancer and a b----." Palin laughs for the second time. What were teenage boys thinking when they heard the governor laugh at someone being called a b----? How about the teenage girls who look up to Palin. What did they think when they heard her laugh? But there is more. Lester then describes Green's chair as big and cushy. A clear reference to the senator's weight. Palin laughs a third time. She's just having a grand old time. Palin was clearly enjoying every second of Lester's vicious attack on her political rival. Here's an excerpt of the audio, and here's the full clip: As the Daily News op-ed notes, Palin later released a statement reading, "The Governor called Senator Green to explain that she does not condone name-calling in any way and apologized if there was a perception that the comment was attributed to the Governor." Then again, at the end of the call in question, Lester asked if he could come visit Palin, and she responded, "I'd be honored to have you." Sarah Palin and her radical friends from the AIP Please look for more details in this article: http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/10/10/palin_chryson/ +++ On the afternoon of Sept. 24 in downtown Palmer, Alaska, as the sun began to sink behind the snowcapped mountains that flank the picturesque Mat-Su Valley, 51-year-old Mark Chryson sat for an hour on a park bench, reveling in tales of his days as chairman of the Alaska Independence Party. The stocky, gray-haired computer technician waxed nostalgic about quixotic battles to eliminate taxes, support the traditional family and secede from the United States. So long as Alaska remained under the boot of the federal government, said Chryson, the AIP had to stand on guard to stymie a New World Order. He invited a Salon reporter to see a few items inside his pickup truck that were intended for his personal protection. This here is my attack dog, he said with a chuckle, handing the reporter an exuberant 8-pound papillon from his passenger seat. Her name is Suzy. Then he pulled a 9-millimeter Makarov PM pistol — once the standard-issue sidearm for Soviet cops — out of his glove compartment. Ive got enough weaponry to raise a small army in my basement, he said, clutching the gun in his palm. Then again, so do most Alaskans. But Chryson added a message of reassurance to residents of that faraway place some Alaskans call the 48. We want to go our separate ways, he said, but we are not going to kill you. Though Chryson belongs to a fringe political party, one that advocates the secession of Alaska from the Union, and that organizes with other like-minded secessionist movements from Canada to the Deep South, he is not without peculiar influence in state politics, especially the rise of Sarah Palin. An obscure figure outside of Alaska, Chryson has been a political fixture in the hometown of the Republican vice-presidential nominee for over a decade. During the 1990s, when Chryson directed the AIP, he and another radical right-winger, Steve Stoll, played a quiet but pivotal role in electing Palin as mayor of Wasilla and shaping her political agenda afterward. Both Stoll and Chryson not only contributed to Palins campaign financially, they played major behind-the-scenes roles in the Palin camp before, during and after her victory. The biggest problem: when Palin came out to onto the Wachovia Center ice Saturday night -- greeted by resounding (almost deafening) boos from the Flyers crowd -- the the two hockey players who had no choice but to appear with her in that photo op were turned into props in a political campaign. +++ More links: http://flyers.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=385526 http://www.eandppub.com/2008/10/hockey-mom-pali.html Tags: sarah palin philadelphia flyers hockey mum game puck boo booing booed thumbs down resounding defeaning boos john mccain election 2008 wachovia center new york rangers 11 october |

Sarah Palin and the Alaskan Independence Party - MUST SEE! EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THIS LETTER: http://www.thepresidentialcandidates.us/about-sarah-palin-a-letter-from-anne-kilkenny/741/ +++ I am reposting this clip of another user because it deserves a much wider audience!! I just added a little "extra" at the end... ;-) Further reading: http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-aip3-2008sep03,0,6399468.story From the LA Times: For all but two months from 1995 to 2002, the governor's husband was registered as an Alaskan Independence Party member, according to the Alaska Division of Elections. With McCain's campaign emphasizing patriotism -- his latest slogan is "Country First" -- the Palins' links to a party founded by the late secessionist gold miner Joe Vogler could prove awkward. "I'm an Alaskan, not an American," Vogler is quoted as saying elsewhere on the partys website. "I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." The party supports a plebiscite on four options that it says Alaskans were entitled to vote on before becoming a state in 1959: Form a sovereign nation of their own, become a state, accept commonwealth status similar to Puerto Rico's, or remain a U.S. territory. Leaders of the party say many of its 13,681 registered members have joined out of frustration over restrictions that the federal government has placed on the use of its vast land holdings in Alaska. Beyond the secession vote, the party also advocates gun rights, home schooling and abolition of property taxes. A question-and-answer page on its website asks, "Aren't most Alaskan Independence Party members a bunch of radicals and kooks?" "The party has its share of individualists, in the grand Alaskan tradition," the answer says. "No longer a fringe party, the AIP is a viable third party with a serious mission and qualified candidates for elected offices." Less than 3% of the state's 479,721 registered voters are members of the party. An AIP high point came in 1990, when Walter J. Hickel -- a Republican governor of Alaska in the late 1960s -- won the job again as the Alaskan Independence Party's candidate. But he returned months later to the GOP. Palin and her husband attended the party's 1994 convention at a Best Western in Wasilla, Alaska, said former Chairman Mark Chryson, a computer repairman who is now the party's webmaster. A former mayor of Wasilla, Palin also spoke to the party's convention in the same hotel in 2006 when she was running for governor, Chryson said. Dexter Clark, an Alaskan Independence Party vice chairman, brought up Palin's ties to the group in videotaped remarks to the second North American Secessionist Convention in October in Chattanooga, Tenn. "She was an AIP member before she got the job as the mayor of a small town," Clark told the group. "That was a nonpartisan job. But you get along to go along. She eventually joined the Republican Party." McCain's campaign distributed Palin's voter registration records Tuesday to show that she had never been a member of the AIP. The Alaska Division of Elections confirmed that Palin had been registered as a Republican since 1982.
