Tough Tootsies of the Eighties No. 25 PLEASE READ THIS - This is the third of four clips from a hilariously ridiculous film called "The Lost Empire" (1985). It involves a tough female cop named Angel Wolfe on a quest for vengeance after her brother is killed by some ninjas in a jewelery store. She rounds up some large-breasted, butt-kicking buddies and enters a tournament on a remote island fortress where the mysterious Dr Sin Do has developed a dangerous weapon using two jewels called, The Eyes of Avatar. The doctor is reputed to be in league with an undead wizard, Lee Chuck. This hokey, tongue-in-cheek piece of schlock was written and directed by Jim Wynorski, a prolific filmmaker who was tutored by his childhood hero, Roger Corman. Wynorski also directed "Deathstalker II" (1987); "The Return of Swamp Thing" (1989); the fabulous "Dinosaur Island" (1994); and "Cheerleader Massacre" (2003). The film, which was Wynorski's directorial debut, starred Melanie Vincz as Angel Wolf. Her two buxom buddies are Raven De La Croix as Whitestar and Angela Aames as Heather McClure. Paul Coufos played Angel's love interest, Rick Stanton, an FBI agent; Angus Scrimm played Dr Sin Do/Lee Chuck; and Robert Tessier appeared as his henchman, Toro. Prager, the crooked cop, who is incinerated in the climax of the film, was played by Blackie Dammett, the father of Anthony Kiedis, the singer with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Wynorski's films have reasonably high production values with big casts, lavish sets, elaborate costumes and even some low-grade special effects, compared to some of the low-budget work of like-minded schlock impresario, Fred Olen Ray (see Tough Tootsies of the Eighties No. 17). I am always looking for new ideas for this series. If you have any suggestions please don't hesitate to drop me a line. Fifties Cheesecake Dance No. 31 PLEASE READ THIS - This is the second of two dance sequences from "Il Terrore dei barbari" (1959) (The Terror of the Barbarians), which was released as "Goliath and the Barbarians" in English-speaking countries. This film was the fourth of the Peplum films made by Steve Reeves in Italy. Peplum is the name given to a genre of adventure or fantasy films set in ancient lands, usually featuring a muscle-bound hero, and are also known as Sword and Sandal epics. The name is derived from peplos, the ancient Greek word for tunic. Steve Reeves played Emiliano, the wood-cutter who swears vengeance against the marauding hordes who murdered his father. Chelo Alonso, the beautifully exotic dancer seen in this clip, played Londo, the daughter of one of the barbarian chiefs. She was born in Cuba to a Cuban father and Mexican mother and attained fame as a dancer in Havanna before appearing as an exotic dancer at the Folies Bergère in Paris. There she was billed as "The Cuban H-Bomb", a title bestowed on her because of her unique blend of Cuban rhythms and burlesque bump-and-grind. The lovely Ms Alonso can be seen in several other Peplum films including "Son of Samson" (1960) with Mark Forest, and "Atlas in the Land of the Cyclops" (1961) with Gordon Mitchell. Livio Lorenzon played Igor, the savage barbarian chief who lusts after Londo and Andrea Checchi played Delfo, Londo's father. Curiously, Alboino, the lord of the barbarians, was played by 55-year-old Bruce Cabot, the hero of the original "King Kong" (1933). The film was directed by Carlo Campogalliani. I am always looking for new ideas for this series. If you have any suggestions please don't hesitate to drop me a line. Short Promo - Sheena (1984) PLEASE READ THIS - This clip was created to embed in one of my web pages about this film: http://terrororstralis.com/sheena/tanya/tanya-plot.htm This mini-documentary was filmed during pre-production and on location during the shooting of the film, "Sheena" (1984). It starred Tanya Roberts as Sheena; Ted Wass as Vic Casey, a reporter; Donovan Scott as Fletch, his photographer/partner; Elizabeth of Toro as the Zambuli Shaman; France Zobda as Countess Zabda; and Trevor Thomas as Prince Otwani. It was filmed on location in Kenya and was directed by John Guillerman, who also directed "Tarzan's Greatest Adventure" (1959), "Tarzan Goes to India (1962), "The Towering Inferno (1974), and "King Kong" (1976). One of the curious things about this film is that it features shots of Tanya Roberts wearing an animal skin outfit printed with a leopard-skin pattern that was not used in the film. This suggests that this particular footage was filmed early in the development stages of the project before final wardrobe decisions had been made. "Sheena" was univerally panned by critics but has developed a cult following, principally because of the the film's tanned, muscular and scantily-clad leading lady. This short promo was shown on HBO to help advertise a forthcoming screening of "Sheena". I am indebted to Gary Gerani, who runs the Tanya Roberts Group on Yahoo, for providing this obscure gem. Thanks Gary! Tags: sheena tanya roberts john guillerman tedd wass elizabeth of toro france zobda donovan scott gary gerani irish mccalla |

Fifties Cheesecake Dance No. 29 PLEASE READ THIS - This clip is from "The Sins of Jezebel" (1953). The film starred Paulette Goddard as Jezebel, the Phoenician princess who turned King Ahab away from worship of the Isrealite god towards the Phoenician god, Baal. The film was directed by Reginald Le Borg and costarred George Nader as Jehu, Eduard Franz as King Ahab and John Hoyt as Elijah. The principal dancer in this number is Carmen D'Antonio. Joe Besser, one of The Three Stooges from 1956-58 played Yonkel, the chariot man. Anyone who has seen Fifties Cheesecake Dance No. 12, with Gina Lollobrigida writhing seductively to arouse the ire of Jehovah, should get a kick out of this. Elijah, a real hard-core wowser and spokesman for monotheistic deism, proves to the subjects of King Ahab that his "loving" god is really a cruel and vicious rapscallion, who inflicts suffering on all - young and old, rich and poor, good and bad - without distinction. Trailer - Sheena (1984) PLEASE READ THIS - This video was uploaded to Youtube specifically to embed in one my web pages about this film: http://terrororstralis.com/sheena/tanya/tanya-plot.htm This was first feature film about the blonde Fiction House jungle heroine to receive wide commercial release. Three episodes of the Irish McCalla television series, "Sheena Queen of the Jungle" (1955-56), were hobbled together to make a shoddy feature film called "Queen of the Jungle", possibly for the European market, but nothing is known about where or when it was released. See my web page about his film: http://terrororstralis.com/sheena/irish/films/queen.htm The 1984 "Sheena" starred Tanya Roberts as Sheena; Ted Wass as Vic Casey, a reporter; Donovan Scott as Fletch, his photographer/partner; Elizabeth of Toro as the Zambuli Shaman; France Zobda as Countess Zabda; and Trevor Thomas as Prince Otwani. Tough Tootsies of the Seventies No. 10 PLEASE READ THIS - This is the last of four clips from a hell of a film called, "Le Amazzoni - donne d'amore e di guerra" ("Battle of the Amazons" - 1973). The Italian title translates as "The Amazons - Women of Love and of War". The film was directed Alfonso Brescia, who directed such Italian classics as "Nel labirinto del sesso" ("The Labyrinth of Sex" - 1969) and "Ragazza tutta nuda assassinata nel parco" ("Naked Girl Killed in the Park" - 1972). This film has lots of gory violence; abundant topless scenes (all removed from my family-friendly Youtube clips); and several sex scenes, including a slow-motion, tandem, naked horseback ride, accompanied by syrupy strings. The film stars the wonderfully named Lucretia Love as Eraglia; Paola Tedesco as Valeria; Mirta Miller as Melanippe; Solvi Stubing as Sinade; and Lincoln Tate as the thief who romances both Amazons and village girls alike. I am always looking for new ideas for this series. If you have any suggestions please don't hesitate to drop me a line. Tough Tootsies of the Eighties No. 22 PLEASE READ THIS - This clip is from another film that was produced and directed by Fred Olen Ray, "Wizards of the Demon Sword" (1991) (see also Tough Tootsies of the Eighties No. 17). As I won't be doing a Tough Tootsies of the Nineties series I have decided to squeeze it in here. The star of this lacklustre vehicle was Lyle Waggoner, who played the evil Lord Khoura, the wizard of the piece. Waggoner had been a TV hearthrob in the 60s and 70s, thanks to his tall (6' 4"/193 cm), dark and handsome appearance, muscular build, perfect teeth, resonant voice and natural charm. An ex-model, he rocketed to fame as the announcer on "The Carol Burnett Show" in the late-1960s. Previously, he had appeared in a string of low-budget schlock films with wonderful titles like, "Women of the Prehistoric Planet" (1966); "Swamp Country" (1966); and "Journey to the Center of Time" (1967). He later became very well-known in the role of Steve Trevor in the "Wonder Woman" series (1975-79). As a wizard, Waggoner is a dismal failure. With his clean-shaven face and slicked back hair he looks more like the vice-president of K-Mart. My suspicion is that Waggoner's vanity prevented the filmmaker from dressing him up in a wig, beard and warty prosthetic chin. Blake Bahner played Thane; the lovely Heidi Paine played Melina; and has-been legend Russ Tamblyn appeared as Ulric, Melina's father. The woman in the sword fight in this clip, and the only real Tough Tootsie present, is Dawn Wildsmith, who played Selena. She can also be seen in Tough Tootsies of the Eighties No. 17, as the denim-jacketed, wise-cracking Eddy in "The Phantom Empire", another Fred Olen Ray masterpiece. This film was shot at the Vasquez Rocks Park in California. I am always looking for new ideas for this series. If you have any suggestions please don't hesitate to drop me a line. Tough Tootsies of the Eighties No. 21 PLEASE READ THIS - This is the last of four clips from "Barbarian Queen II: The Empress Strikes Back" (1989). This film is the sequel to "Barbarian Queen" (1985), which is featured in Tough Tootsies of the Eighties Nos. 13 and 14. While supposedly a sequal, the lovely Lana Clarkson does not play Amethea, the character from the original film, but is now Princess Athalia. The film, generally, has less of a "barbarian" feel than the original film and more of a "medieval" ambience, although the female warriors are pretty wild. The original was filmed in Argentina but this one was shot in Mexico. This is the only film directed by Joe Finley, who went on to become a digital artist and colourist. Greg Wrangler (a likely name) played Athalia's lover, Aurion and Roger Cudney played the villain, Hofrax. That leaves us with the bevy of beautiful amazons - Rebecca Wood played Zarla; Elizabeth Jaeger was Noki; Cecilia Tijerina played Tamis; Orietta Aguilar played Erigena; Carolina Valero was Nalax; and Monica Steeler was Ethbek. Lana Clarkson, who played Athalia, the buxom, arse-kicking, sword-wielding blonde amazon, is another of my favourite Tough Tootsies. Ms Clarkson, a keen horse rider and natural athlete, first appeared in "Deathstalker" (1983). She played Amathea again in "Wizards of the Lost Kingdom II" (1989). She appeared in over thirty films, numerous television series like "Three's Company", "Knight Ridr", and "The A-Team", and many TV commercials, developing a large fan base. Her life was tragically cut short when she died from a gunshot wound to the mouth in February 2003. Famous record producer, Phil Spector, has been charged with her murder but the case has still not reached a final verdict. I am always looking for new ideas for this series. Tough Tootsies of the Eighties No. 17 PLEASE READ THIS - The clip is from "The Phantom Empire" (1989, another one of Fred Olen Ray's wonderful low-budet, tongue-in-cheek hamoages to schlock cinema. The prolific Ray is responsible for such glorious titles as "Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers" (1988); "Bad Girls from Mars" (1991; "Attack of the 60 Foot Centerfolds" (1995); and "Bikini Girls from the Lost Planet" (2006). The film was shot almost entirely in Bronson Canyon, the most recognisable film location in the world, in 10 days. The plot involves a group of adventurers who enter a cave in search of diamonds and encounter a bevy of cave girls, cannibalistic demons, and a crashed alien amazon. The cast of the film included Sybil Danning as the Alien Queen; Michelle Baur as the Cave Bunny; Ross Hagen as Cort Eastman; Jeffrey Combs as Andrew Paris; Dawn Wildsmith as Eddy Colchilde; Robert Quarry as Professor Strock; Susan Stokey as Denae Chambers ; and Russ Tamblyn as Bill. That is not the original Robby the Robot in this clip, but one of many reproductions that exist. The one used, however, was owned by director, William Malone, the world's foremost "Forbidden Planet" collector, who owns the original Robby. I am always looking for new ideas for this series. Tough Tootsies of the Eighties No. 16 PLEASE READ THIS - This is the second of two clips from a little-seen film called, "Euer Weg führt durch die Hölle" (1984) (aka "Jungle Warriors", "Jungle Fever", and "The Czar of Brazil"). The German director, Ernst R. von Theumer (aka Richard Jackson) shot the film on location in Mexico using mostly American actors, but there is also a Danish actress, a Hungarian actress, a Cuban actress and a Brazilian actor involved. Hollywood B-grade stalwarts John Vernon, Woody Strode and Paul L Smith appear, as does that overrated mean-faced, full-figured 80s Amazon, Sybil Danning. I know she has a large following amongst the muscle car fraternity coz of "those amazing hooters", but these dunderheads don't appear to notice that (1) she has zero charisma; and (2) them hooters are pretty saggy. We also get the multi-talented (and funny looking) Marjoe Gortner (he was also a child preacher and faith healer). This bizarre tale involves a group of models who travel to an unidentified South American locale for an exotic photo shoot but are taken prisoner by the reigning drug lord, who allows his men, and his hard-hearted sister, to treat them poorly. One of the girls is an undercover US Government agent who calls in her boys as a fire-fight errupts between the drug baron's forces and the visiting mafia. Somehow the escaped dolly girls are suddenly transformed into trained commandos and they clean up the whole bloody mess. I can't recommend this must-see hokum more highly. The other players are Alex Cord, Kai Wulff, Dana Elcar, Suzi Horne, Mindi Iden, Kai Lloyd, Ava cadell, Myra Chason, and Angela Robinson. Tough Tootsies of the Eighties No. 14 PLEASE READ THIS - This is the second of two clips from the very popular film, "Barbarian Queen", from 1985. The film was another one of the Roger-Corman-produced, made-in-Argentina, sword and sorcery fantasies distributed by Concorde Pictures, or one of it's subsiduaries like Concorde-New Horizons. "Amazons", featured in Tough Tootsies of the Eighties Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6, is from the same stable, and "Deathstalker III". The film was directed by Héctor Olivera. The actress who played Amathea, the buxom, arse-kicking, sword-wielding blonde amazon, was Lana Clarkson, another of my favourite Tough Tootsies. Ms Clarkson, a keen horse rider and natural athlete, first appeared in "Deathstalker" (1983). She appeared again in "Barbarian Queen II: The Empress Strikes Back" (1989), and played Amathea again in "Wizards of the Lost Kingdom II" (1989). The other stars of the film were Katt Shea as Estrild; Dawn Dunlap as Taramis; Susana Traverso as Tiniara; Victor Bo as Strymon; and Frank Zagarino as Argan. I am always looking for new ideas for this series. If you have any suggestions please don't hesitate to drop me a line. Tough Tootsies of the Seventies No. 6 PLEASE READ THIS - This montage of scenes is from "Gator Bait" (1974", a trashy tale of vengeance set in the swamps of the Cajun Bayou country. Desiree, the sexy swamp girl who suppports her siblings by poaching, was played by the lovely Claudia Jennings. Ms Jennings rocketed to fame after a photographer asked her to test for him while she was working as a receptionist at the Playboy offices. She was Playmate in November 1969 and Playmate of the Year in 1970. She died in a car crash in October 1979, aged 29, after appearing in almost 30 unimpressive films. "Gator Bait" is considered the zenith of her career. The film was directed by Ferd and Beverly Sebastian. It also featured Sam Gilman, Douglas Dirkson, Clyde Ventura, Bill Thurman and Don Baldwin. The Leonard Maltin Movie Guide described it as, "A tedious tease of a film, with moments of truly repellent violence." I am always looking for new ideas for this series. Fifties Cheesecake Dance No. 28 PLEASE READ THIS - This sequence is from "Serpent of the Nile" (1953), which was directed by William Castle and starred Rhonda Fleming as Cleopatra; Raymond Burr as Mark Anthony; and William Lundigan as Lucilius. The principal dancer is Julie Newmar, who also appears in Fifties Cheesecake Dance No. 16. Five feet eleven Newmar had an IQ of 135 and was best know as Rhoda the Robot in "My Living Doll", and as the first Catwoman on the 60s "Batman" TV series. Sixties Cheesecake Dance No. 12 PLEASE READ THIS - Here is the wonderful multiple bellydancer sequence from "John Goldfarb, Please Come Home" (1965), featuring Shirley McLaine in a quasi-bellydance routine. In this lame farcical comedy, two Americans, a female reporter (Shirley McLaine) and a pilot (Richard Crenna), are trapped in a desert kingdom and are conspiring to help the Arabian chief's football team beat Notre Dame, with the assistance of the CIA. Notre Dame found this spook so offensive they sued in court. The film was directed by J Lee Thompson, who also directed "The Guns of Navarone" (1961), and the original "Cape Fear" (1962). Peter Ustinov played the zany Arabian chief, and Wilfred Hyde White is great as the Arabian chief's principal advisor. Terri Garr has a small role as a harem girl and that's James Brolin struggling with the spicy stuffed mongoose. The two featured bellydancers are Sultanna, who appears first, and Nai Bonet, who follows. The writer of this turkey, was William Peter Blatty, who wrote both the novel and screenplay of "The Exorcist" (1975). I am always looking for new ideas for this series. Fifties Cheesecake Dance No. 26 PLEASE READ THIS - This is the second of two clips from the 1951 version of "Bird of Paradise". The film was directed by Delmer Daves and starred Debra Paget as Kalua, the island's princess; Jeff Chandler as her brother, Tenga; Louis Jordan as Andre, the French foreigner who falls in love with her; Prince Lei Lani as the Chief; Maurice Schwartz as The Kahuna; and Everett Sloane as The Beachcomber. It is interesting to contrast these two clips with Thirties Cheesecake Dances Nos. 2 and 3, which feature segments from the Pre-Hays Code version of 1932 directed by King Vidor. In that film the native dancing is more passionate and abandoned, Delores Del Rio dances topless with only a lei of flowers around her neck to cover her breasts, and she is much more flirtatious and sensual than the demure Kalua portrayed by Debra Paget. The Hays Code, named after a well-connected Republican lawyer, Will H Hays, sentenced the American film audience to bland wholesomeness and the moral precepts of the religious right for more than 30 years. I am always looking for new ideas for this series. If you have any suggestions please don't hesitate to drop me a line. Five Gates To Hell (1959) - Irish McCalla scenes PLEASE READ THIS - This is Irish McCalla's very brief scene from the 1959 B-grade war drama, "Five Gates To Hell". She is also the nun walking to the tent in the opening credits. I have uploaded this clip to embed in my web page about that film: http://terrororstralis.com/sheena/irish/films/gates.htm The film, which is set in Indo-China during the escalating conflict in that region, was the directorial debut of the author, James Clavell. It starred Delores Michaels as Athena; Patricia Owens as Joy; Neville Brand as Chen Pamok; Ken Scott as Dr John Richter; Nobu McCarthy as Chioko; Nancy Kulp as Susette; and Irish McCalla, of "Sheena Queen of the Jungle" fame, in a brief role as Sister Magdalena.
