Silent Running Intro monolog Pure science fiction but hauntingly prophetic for these uncertain times, This chilling monologue from Silent Running always had the chills running up my spine. A great moment from a time when science fiction had more dependency on story telling rather than action and special effects. The stirring charm of Silent running was beautifully profiled by "screenab" in his IMDB comment. "I was 15 years old when I saw this movie. Tears ran down my cheeks as I walked home. It was the saddest and happiest I have ever been, and at the same time. I'm 51 years old now. This movie has been in my sub conscience for 36 years. It's like a prophesy, to what we are facing now. We have made such a mess of this beautiful blue planet. This movie taps into your inner fears, and mortality and for me it has never let go. Looking back I think I quit breathing at times during this movie, as it draws into your heart, and mind. It's about love, and loss, and a feeling of forlorn. Now more than ever before with global warming, food riots, peak oil. Anarchy and chaos is in our future. We will so regret what we have done to this planet, but it is to late. We should have been jarred into action after this movie was made in 1972. Stupid is what stupid does" Disclaimer: Tribute only.I do not own the rights to "Silent Running (1972)" Tags: Silent Running Intro monolog |

Silent Running intro This is the profoundly delicate and sensitive title sequence that draws you into the world of "Silent Running" and it's desperate message about preserving life on Earth. It painted a bleak picture of the future that may have served as a useful wake up call in 1972 if only more people listened. "Space boy in sky high scramble" circa 1992 What ever happened to "Space boy in sky high scramble"? I belive this trail blazing work by Blue Sky productions was never going to be anything more than a mock teaser, but this was 1992 and it had a combination of jaw dropping rendering and animation flair three or four years before Toy Story. Americana tribute/trailer "Americana" is a film produced and directed by David Carradine and completed in 1983. David also played the lead and performed the title music "Let me take you around" The story line is based around a returned Vietnam veteran who seems to be on as soul searching journey by walking across America. When passing through a bleak, backwater town he comes across a derelict carousel and finds a personal mission to restore it. The seemingly simple and kind gesture polarizes the local community who both hinder and embrace his efforts. As he is draw into the towns darker shadows it becomes apparent no one can fully come to terms with the noble motivation of the anonymous american soldier. This is a significant work of American realist cinema however I could find very little information on the picture or a trailer for it. I have put together a tribute /trailer for this movie that hopefully captures some of the haunting undercurrent of David's otherwise introspective and quiet film. I recently received email from a resident who appeared in the film as an extra, says town currently has a population of 7 people and 13 dogs :). Mt Yasur Another part of our trip to Vanuatu was seeing an active volcano on Tanna island. It's a very bumpy, very long drive across the island but alot to see along the way. "Running boy" was our little gag about a young islander who seemed to have no end of energy. While children could only keep up with the 4x4 for 50 meters or so, "Running boy" was in his own class going full thottle for what must have been several kilometers. Tags: volcano |

The coolest, The best - The 60's TV Bat mobile Ode to The 60's tv Batmobile (....or Bird Mobile?) Ok, Our heros costumes of the day where disturbingly lame, however... Batmobiles have come and gone but the 1960's version, based on the 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car, must be one of the most spectacular and beautiful cars ever to grace a highway. But let's not forget the "bat cycle" ..everyone else has. ...his first name is "oh" Airing around 1994 I am pretty sure this thumping version of Danny boy will be hated by the purists but Jimeoin, a stand up comic not really known for singing, pulls this together magnificently to finish his show, hence the credits, and made for a great moment in Australian live TV. I belive the solo dancing leprechaun is Glenn Robbins, another Australian celebrity comic. Crank up the volume! enjoy! Time Machine (1960) Flat Screen TV appearance The Time machine was produced in 1960 This sequence, set in the near future (1966) appears to show the now familiar wide/flat format screen televisions that really only appeared early this decade. An accurate prediction only 30 or so years to early. Shortly after this sequence an apocalyptic atomic war takes place. Hmmm... "PLAYROOM" circa 1960's Playroom, not to be confused with Romper Room or Playschool was produced from the studios of TCN 9 in Sydney, Australia from 1958-1967. Playroom was very much based on the "watch with mother" style programs showing in the UK at the time. The content was carefully orchestrated to promote healthy mental and behavioral development of its young audience within guidelines provided by child psychologists and experts of the day. My memory of the show was unexpectedly triggered some twentyfive years after the fact when I came across a the faded and tired promotional postcard (featured in video) that I had received as a child. Seeing all these long lost little faces peering back at me through time was quite startling, as they may well be some of my earliest memories I have of watching television. It is a little known fact that Australia's Channel 9 has a poor record in regards to the preservation of some of it's earliest locally made content and it would seem that there is no known video records of Playroom existing today. Almost a decade of children's TV lost that may have formed a valuable insight into not only the formative years of Australian children's television but also parental attitudes and etiquettes of the day. The main personalities behind the show appear to be Morna Jones, Bruce Menzies and Heather Gell. Morna Jones was the main force behind the show although Bruce Menzies seems to have made the bigger impression after joining the show later in its run. Morna Jones repeatedly had to travel from South Australia where she lived to the studios of TCN 9 in Sydney to over see its production. The drain of this travel combined with 9's flagging support for this pioneering venture into children's television seemed to be the factors that lead to the end of its production. It continued to air in repeats until 1973 when color transmission had been announced and this may have been its final death fall having only black and white heritage. Although Australia's TCN 9 let Playroom go the UK model of this program went from strength to strength, paving the way for remarkable shows such as Vision On, Take hart, SuperCar and The Thunderbirds. This is a profile of the show as written by Steve McCredie. Steve has a remarkable recall for this era of television and is a contributer to Glen Johnson's "60's anime" website. http://home.alphalink.com.au/~roglen/index.htm Playroom was a very conservative-looking alternative to Seven's ROMPER ROOM. t was hosted by Bruce Menzies and Morna Jones. There were featured craft activities (I recall learning how to make potato- stamps from them), stories and simple life-lessons. Morna talked, read and sang. So did Bruce. Bruce made a bigger impression with his announcer's voice, cheerful grin and suit. There were also puppet segments: Jeanne-Marieand 'Patapon' her sheep, Bill the narcoleptic koala (voiced and lullaby-sung: "Bill's asleep, Bill's asleep..." by Morna), Jodie the sock-puppet giraffe and his jungle pals (most eminently the screeching, wordless Mini Monk) voiced and sung by Bruce ("Goodbye Jodie, long- necked Jodie, we'll see him some more, for sure for sure....and then he'll make us la-AAAA-augh") and others. I appeared on Sydney's ROMPER ROOM as a young and un co-operative brat but I don't recall PLAYROOM taking on live audience participation in that way. No magic mirrors either. No Miss whoever. Bruce and Morna, and that was it. Steve Other characters included a boy and girl marionette on a playground stage, possibly with a dog. These characters seemed to be fashioned on Gerry Anderson's early work with "The Adventures of Twizzle" and "Torchy, the Battery Boy" that appeared on UK television in the late fifties. Two dolls called Debbie Dear and Jenny Love who were always fusspotting about something, popped up regularly, They appeared to be simply hand held and always shot in close up. There was also a Golliwog called Woggo. Please leave a comment or message me if you can add any more information about "Playroom" Disclaimer: Tribute only.I do not own the rights to "Playschool" Tags: Playroom children's television show tcn nostalgia historic 1950's 1960's |

Did you spot the mouse? -------------------------------------- After 2.5 thousand views bobthesmug is the mouse spotter! -------------------------------------- The mouse is there because our lecturer, John Bird, hinted all year I should introduce another character or pet for the boy.
