The Debut (2000) INTRO (1st Fil-Am Theatrical Film) "THE DEBUT: ...the little film that could!!!" Ever seen filipinos on US widescreen theaters...or just a "movie" at all? -First independent Filipino-American produced-directed movie. A film about "identity?" ...are you "product of your environment" Are you "white/brown/black?" -The "national and international" tour long gone...Been 9+ years since filming ended...Time for a "refresh" on the this movie, "re-introduce" the "filipino experience" of filipino culture "less known" to americans.. -The Debut movie is widely considered to be an accurate snapshot of contemporary Filipino American life, and touches upon a wide variety of cultural themes including immigrant identity, acculturation and assimilation, family honor, and colonialism. -An award-winning English language film for the whole family, "the Debut" revolves a talented high school senior who has rejected his Filipino heritage. Challenged his sense of misplaced identity...relationships with his family, his friends, and himself. -The Debut is an independent feature-length film directed and co-written by first-time Filipino American filmmaker Gene Cajayon. It is one of the first feature films to take place within the Filipino American community, one of the largest Asian ethnic minorities in America. It is also the first Filipino American film to be released theatrically nationwide. -Early Success Prior to the film's theatrical release in 2001, the film was shown at various film festivals around the United States, including the Hawaii International Film Festival in November 2000. American film critic Roger Ebert, in attendance, was given a private screening of the film and gave his famous "thumbs up" approval. -2000 HIFF Audience Award for Best Feature Film, beating out heavily favored Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. -Best Feature Film honors by the 2000 San Diego Asian Film Festival. -The film had its World Premiere as the Opening Night Attraction of the 15th Annual Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film & Video Festival -Theatrical Release The Debut's crowd-pleasing success on the film festival circuit inspired the filmmakers to launch an ambitious theatrical self-distribution campaign. MOD 85 (Half firearm/paintball trainer) "...you get the recoil, sound, casing ejection,and smoke of the real thing." MOD 85 (Half firearm/paintball trainer)The Mod 85 dates back to at least mid-1988...One of a kind/discountinued law enforcement/military trainer... Manufacturer: Para-Ordnance Year: 1988 Much more a 'simunition' gun than a traditional paintball marker, the Mod 85 used actual cartridges which housed a .375 caliber paintball and a primer. Magazine fed and polymer bodied, the marker was closely styled after the Ingram MAC-10 submachine gun, right down to the fully automatic operation (the gun was available as either a semiauto or full auto). The gun was known to be incredibly loud (technically being a firearm), wildly inaccurate, and terrifying to be on the receiving end of (yet a true crowd pleaser at the chrono station due to the noise, smoke, sparks and incredible cyclic rate of approximately 1200rpm). Banned from fields(late 80's) due to its extremely high velocities(400fps), the Mod 85 saw little use, and is now considered a novelty gun, especially given the lack of ammunition for it. The Model 85 is actually modelled after the Ingram Mac 11. It was originally designed as a police/ military training tool. It is a blowback select-fire gun that fires a .375 caliber paintball. The paintball is loaded into a reusable plastic shell casing with a pistol primer at the base. The gun fires just like a true openbolt machine pistol, a firing pin igniting the primer with the resulting contained explosion propelling the ball down the barrel and cycling the gun.
