Neighborhood Electric Vehicles - Peapod With gas prices continuing to fluctuate, many auto companies are looking to go electric with their future line of cars. Chrysler surprised the industry last week when they unveiled a fleet of three electric cars, one of which will go on sale in 2010... but less hyped was their announcement about the new Peapod “neighborhood electric vehicle” from their Global Electric Motors division. Designed and engineered by Chrysler's ENVI division, which is dedicated to producing electric cars away from the normal corporate climate, the Peapod is a sleek and futuristic electric vehicle that produces absolutely zero emissions. The Peadpod is designed to be driven in traffic congested urban areas, gated communities, and other private and public areas with low posted speed limits, and they're street legal in most states on roads with a posted speed limit of under 35 miles per hour. The Peapod has a maximum speed of 25 mph, and the car can drive 30 miles on a full charge... so if you pick one up, don't expect to replace your old car for everything. But the Peapod can take a lot of the burden off your old gas engined car, because it will be great for local trips within your neighborhood, to places like the grocery store, a nearby movie theater, or trips to school. And if you don't think driving an emission free Peapod on short trips only will have much environmental impact... you'd be surprised. Chrysler's Global Electric Motors Division, or GEM, has sold over 38,000 electric cars even before Peapod was announced, and they've collectively driven over 200 million miles and saved an estimated 10 million gallons of gas and 150 tons of tailpipe emissions. And with the Peapod's fully enclosed form, eight eye catching color options, and sleekly futuristic look, GEM is sure to sell a lot more cars when the Peapod goes on sale in 2009. Chrysler has not announced the price of the Peapod yet, but the current range on GEM vehicles is between just under 7,000 and just over 12,000 dollars. You can learn more about the Peapod ... Neighborhood Electric Vehicles - NEVs As global warming gets worse and gas prices climb ever higher, more and more people are interested in electric vehicles... but few people realize that you can actually buy decent electric cars right now. There are already a great and growing variety of Neighborhood Electric Vehicles, or NEVs, available for purchase right now. These fully electric, zero emission vehicles are designed for driving around overly congested urban areas, gated communities or other private or public areas with roads that have low posted speed limits. Currently, NEVs are legally required to have a maximum speed of 25 miles per hour and can only drive on roads with a posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour or less. NEVs can usually travel between 30-60 miles per battery charge, and once they run low, they can be plugged into conventional home wall sockets to recharge their batteries. Most states allow NEVs on their slower speed limit roads, and some are considering legislation that will allow their top speeds to be upped to 35 miles per hour so they can drive on roads with posted speed limites of 45 mph, which would create a new class of cars called Medium Speed Electric Vehicles. And even though an NEV can't replace your regular car for long trips on roads with faster speed limits, you'd be surprised by how much gas you save when you take your NEV out for short trips around your neighborhood. And since the car produces absolutely zero emissions, you'll be helping the environment with every beer run, grocery store trip, or quick ride into town that you take in an NEV instead of a conventional, gas powered vehicle. Check out your state's laws regarding NEVs before you purchase one, and get ready to help the environment at 25 miles per hour. I'm HOST and you've been watching RPMFreaks.Com. Random Orbital vs High speed Buffers rpmfreaks.com Welcome to RPM FREAKS.com, your pedal to the metal guide to all things automotive – I’m Aubree Knecht. On today’s edition, we’ll take a look at the different buffers available on the market! The process of buffing your car requires the right kind of buffer, in order to make your car sparkle. If you want to get that detailed showroom shine, don’t even bother doing it by hand. You’ll need the right tools to get the job done, and you’ll need to practice and gain experience in order to master this art form. You’ll need to know what type of buffer suits you most: an electric model, or a pneumatic one powered by an air compressor. The pneumatic is powered by a separate compressed air source, while the buffer itself is light and requires almost zero maintenance. On the other hand, you also have the more popular ‘Electric Buffer’, which is often more bulky than its pneumatic cousin, but tends to be a lot quieter and more economically priced. Plus, you don’t have to buy an air compressor either, which can cost 200-$300 bucks for a decent one. If you’re just a homeowner and want portability, then you should probably go electric. Car Waxes rpmfreaks.com Welcome to RPM FREAKS, your non-stop guide on the automotive world – I’m Aubree Knecht. On today’s edition, we’ll figure out which wax is right for your car- NATURAL CARNAUBA and SYTHETIC! Waxing your car is vital to preserving your car’s coat of paint, so it won’t get damaged from the brutal sun. But it has to be done properly so that the depth and quality of the reflection of car’s body can be truly astonishing. You’ll need to know what kind of wax is proper for your automobile, starting with Natural Carnauba Wax. Being totally ‘old school’, Natural Carnauba wax is a big hit among car enthusiasts because it produces a rich, warm glow on the paint’s surface. It is derived from the Brazilian Tree of Life, which is used as a natural defense to protect its leaves from the unmerciful heat. Car wax makers have to blend the wax with oils, distillates, and solvents in order to make the wax workable, so it can’t work solely on its own. Be sure to check out popular brands like PINNACLE SOUVERAN for $80 and P21S CONCOURS WAX for $30 if you want the best. If there is a drawback of carnauba wax, is that it begins to wear off in 6 to 8 weeks. On today’s edition, we’re gonna check out the ECLIPSE CD7200 MKII CD and MEDIA PLAYER! Technology these days is becoming overly complicated for the average user. Luckily, the ECLIPSE CD7200 MKII is a simple piece of equipment that can give you the most complete audio experience in the comfort of your own car. Its quality AND simplicity at its finest. The MKII is BLUETOOTH friendly, due to certain obligations to the law in most states, and it’s what people in the audio biz call a “deadhead”, which means that has no internal power or amp to speak of. The unit isolates itself via a copper-plated chassis, which means that there’s no noise distortion to bother with your listening pleasure. There are also gold-plated connectors, 24-bit DSP and an amazing 8V preamp output, making the MK II fully loaded. That, my friends, is one truly remarkable car CD player! The audio quality is superb, with the ability to play HD radio and lossless songs from your iPod, which means no data, or quality, is lost in the compression process. The new 2008 Mini Cooper rpmfreaks.com If using the word cute to describe a car doesn't make you nauseous, then a Mini Cooper might be the right car for you. The very cute little cars are fun to drive, take up very little space, and get great mileage. The 2007 model of the Mini Cooper was upgraded with an engine designed by parent company BMW, and it has helped push the cars rating up to a very respectable 28 miles per gallon in the city and an impressive 37 miles per gallon on the highway for the manual model and an almost equally good 26 MPGs in the city and 34 MPGs on the highway for the automatic version. The Mini Cooper is also surprisingly spacey on the inside considering the diminutive size of the car, and the little cars really do look adorable in canary yellow or fire engine red. And you will almost always be able to find paralleled parking spaces with the tiny cars, even in the busiest and most crowded city neighborhoods. So if you are looking for a car with top notch fuel efficiency, practicalness, and cute as a button looks, then the Mini Cooper might be the car for you. RPMFreaks Presents The 2008 Toyota Corolla Toyota is famous as the first car company to release Hybrids upon the public, and their Prius has become a runaway success. But their non-Hybrid cars are still very fuel efficient, and none more so than the old reliable Toyota Corolla. With a mileage rating of 26 MPGs in the city and 35 MPGs freeway for the manual version and 27 city, 35 freeway for the automatic model, Corrolla is one of the most fuel efficient cars on the market, hybrid or not. And the sticker price for a basic, non loaded Corolla is a very affordable 15,000 dollars, more than five grand less than most new hybrids will run you. And think of it this way... it might not get the mileage of a Prius, but the lower sticker price and still relativley high MPGs might actually end up being the more economic choice until, and that's certainly true until you drive a more expensive Hybrid for years. An incredibly reliable car, the Corolla makes up for what it lacks in flash in fuel efficiency and dependability. So if you're looking for a car with very high MPG stats, a low sticker price, and you're not worried about driving something with a lot of flash and bling, then the classic Corolla might be your best option. Honda Civic rpmfreaks The Prius may be the first and most popular hybrid vehicle out there, but Honda's Civic Hybrid can go toe to toe with Toyota's model. The Hybrid version of their perenially popular Civic can get up to 40 miles per gallon in the city and 45 MPG on the highway. The Civic Hybrid has plenty of interior space and a full spectrum of safety features, making it an almost equal alternative to the market leading Prius. And if you want to save a little money and avoid paying extra for the hybrid model, the regular, classic Civic still gets amazing mileage. In fact the regular engine Civic is one of the most fuel efficient non hybrids on the market, getting a very healthy 26 miles per gallon in the city and 34 miles per gallon on the highway for the manual version, and a still great 25 MPGs city and 36 MPGS highway for the automatic model. So if you're looking for great fuel efficiency without hybrid prices, the Honda Civic might be the car you're looking for, but if you want the extra MPGs that a Hybrid has to offer, The Honda Civic Hybrid is worth weighing against the more popular Prius. Honda Fit rpmfreaks.com Following the success of the Mini Cooper, many companies looked to cash in on Mini fever by launching their own line of compact and practical cars. One of the best of the bunch in terms of fuel efficiency is, not surprisingly, from Honda, who knows a thing or two about squeezing the most miles per gallon out of their vehicles. The Honda Fit gets great mileage across all three of the options they offer, with the manual model getting 28 MPGs in the city and 34 on the highway, the basic automatic model getting 27 city and 34 highway, and the automatic sport option getting a very good 27 in the city and 33 miles per gallon when you take it on the highway. And the car's design is smart too, offering a Mini experience that doesn't sacrifice space in the interior. There is ample room between the front and back seats, decent storage space, and the car is well designed so that it is comfortable to drive for even the tallest of motorists. The compact Fit is an economical, practical, and, I'll say it, cute Mini that will deliver the MPGs you'd expect out of a Honda vehicle. Get the most MPGs out of your Prius So you've just gotten a new Prius and want to learn how to maximize the car's fuel efficiency? Some Prius owners have become Jedi level masters of Prius fuel efficiency, and these “hyper milers” use a few tried and true methods to get their MPGs up in the 50s, 60s, or even 70s, while one infamous Prius driver has even gotten the car to achieve an outrageous 100 miles per gallon. So how do they do it? Well, if you really want to get those big MPG numbers, you're going to have to give up your led footed ways. When accelerating, do it gradually, gently lifting your foot from the pedal as you drive. You can gently reapply pressure to the pedal if you need to accelerate more or begin to lose speed, but avoid mashing the pedal down if you want to achieve maximum mileage. Once you reach a desired speed, try and “glide” at that speed without accelerating as much as you can.... if you are going downhill, coast as much as you can and you will get better mileage. Also, try to not turn the engine on and off... short trips from cold stops will reduce your MPGs. If you are stopping for just a few moments, leave the car idling if you are confident it won't get stolen. The Prius is the rare car th Tags: cars enviormental exotic nascar prius toyota |

08 Camry Hybrid Welcome to RPM FREAKS.com, your pedal to the metal guide to all things automotive – I’m (HOST). The Toyota Camry is the best selling car in America, and the company's Prius model is the best selling Hybrid on the market, so it was a no brainer that Toyota would create a Hybrid version of the insanely popular Camry. The Camry Hybrid is a much more conventional driving experience than the quirky Prius, meant to appeal to people who already like the meat and potatoes, non hybrid Camry. The car doesn't visually stand out the way a Prius does either, so if you're looking for a more subtle hybrid, this might be what you're looking for. The Camry Hybrid sacrifices some of the fuel efficiency of the Prius in the name of conventional design, but it still gets a very healthy 33 miles per gallon in the city and 34 MPGs on the highway. So if you're looking for Hybrid mileage without the in your face hybrid look, then the Toyota Camry Hybrid model might just be the stealth fuel efficient car you've been searching for.
