Craig feat. Whodini - Long Time Comin - Buzz fm Manchester Once again, another track from CRAIG feat. Whodini - LONG TIME COMIN. CRAIG wrote this track when he was just 16 years old, and recorded it when he was 19. He says now he hates this tune, as he feels he has moved on, both as a writter and as a performer, but i think it's a tune, and i hope you agree!!! Im proud to introduce my good friend CRAIG to my channel!!! CRAIG is unsigned at this moment, but watch this space....Snowman told you so!!! CRAIG, i got your back man! And yea, when were on that plane to Dubai lol we will be laughing!!! (Im gonna hold you to that Craig lol). CRAIG is 21 years old and is from South West London in the UK. Born and raised in Clapham, CRAIG moved out to Kent after 10 years where his musical journey began. After secondary school, CRAIG began working as a booking agent for X-Rated Artist Agency, with Mike Hague (responsible for countless number 1's) booking PA's for artists such as: Shystie, Klashnekoff, Akala & Omar to name a few. Whilst gaining real experience in the music industry CRAIG also went on be to be involved in artist management, managing a number of prolific producers such as: The Beatmasters & Matt Qualified. With 2 years experience in the music industry under his belt, CRAIG began recording his own material in various local studios. As a result of all this hard work, CRAIG generated a lot of noise on the underground scene with tracks such as "Wee Wee Time" & "The Kidnap Song". CRAIG later crossed paths with Dean Anthoni aka WHODINI, also from London, and started a close working relationship with Buttasmoove Entertainment before being recruited. CRAIG works alongside new UK tallent CYNTHIA MARE and pioneering UK producer KRUNCHIE. KRUNCHIE is known for his remix of AALIYAH's "Try Again and More Than a Woman", and TIMBALAND's "Cop That Shh" as well as producing for 112, Bounty Killa, and Jimmy Cliff - So who said we couldn't make quality music in the UK? Collaborations emerged with Dean Anthoni & Estee, giving birth to such tracks as "Can't Help It" which was an underground smasher! With Performances all over the UK at venues such as CC, Metra (London), Hidden Night Club (Manchester) etc, performing alongside Dean Anthoni, Rico and Estee, it was only a matter of time before the spotlight was on CRAIG to release an official single. GIVE IT 2U produced & featuring Dean Anthoni is CRAIG's other single and is currently on rotation in and around the UK is about to hit a TV near YOU! The track can also be found on my channel. Soul Family Sensation - I Dont Even Know - Buzz fm Manchester Taken from the year of 1990, is this long gone, but not forgotten smash from UK group, Soul Family Sensation. This tune was massive in the clubs and was played endlessly by pirate radio DJ's across the UK. In 1989, after being introduced to Chicago house music, Johnny Male teamed up with Guy Batson and Jhelisa Anderson to begin the project Soul Family Sensation. Their debut album "New Wave" was praised by the British press and with their single "I Don't Even Know If I Should Call You Baby" the band had their first club and chart success. But despite a bit of interest from the style press and some radio play for the next single, Baby, Soul Family Sensation bombed. Burger Habit, the second LP recorded without Jhelisa under the new band name of Sensation, disappeared without a trace and the band split. Johnny Male - after reputedly writing songs for Jimmy Nail - turned up next in the UK band Republica. Too white for the dance kids, too black for the indie kids, Soul Family Sensation were stuck in a sort of no-mans land. But this tune was massive, and is still considered a classic! Enjoy! Mica Paris - Love You Tonight - Buzz fm Manchester Taken from the year of 1991 is this tune from the UK's Mica Paris - Love You Tonight. This tune was produced and mixed by Nellie Hooper who shot to fame alongside Jazzy B, as they were the founder member's of one of the UK's finest groups, Soul 2 Soul. Mica Paris was born on 27 April 1969. She went to Lewisham Girls school in London and got her break into the music buisness age 17. Mica has been one of the most celebrated artists in the UK soul scene, ever since she burst out of our radio's with her international hit "My One Temptation," making fans (and later collaborators out of) giants in the music industry like Eric B & Rakim, Nile Rodgers and Prince, to name a few. Her career as a vocalist began when she started singing in her church when she was seven years old. Paris changed her name from Michelle to Micha at age 16 and later dropped the 'h' in Micha, going by Mica ever since. The change in name coincided with Mica's signing on as a member in the gospel group Spirit Of Watts and by the mid 1980's arrived, she was doing background vocal work for secular groups such as Shakatak and Hollywood Beyond. She has also gone on to work with many UK and US artist's, and these days can be seen on t.v. in the UK presenting programs, and also does alot of radio work including presenting Soul Solutions on BBC Radio 2 as well as radio documentaries such as Purple Reign: The Prince Story and a six-part series on Aretha Franklin. Cheshire Cat - Bite The Dust - Buzz fm Manchester From the year of 1997 - Cheshire Cat - Bite The Dust. This is the original mix. Cheshire Cat is a white M.C. and vocalist from Birmingham UK, although if you have never seen his face you could be easly mistaken for thinking he was a true native of jamaica with his tone of voice and reggae sound, not to mention his dredlocks too. Growing up in inner city Birmingham in the 1980's, he took his influence from the music he heard on local pirate radio stations and sound systems. He has appearred as the m.c. and vocalist on many tracks over the years, most memorably on Leftfield's 1995/6 - RELEASE THE PRESSURE. For this track, BITE THE DUST, he came with his own sound and name. Wicked tune that is loved by many a Buzz fm DJ aswell as the listenners. Also in my playlists, is the excellent jungle remix by SMITH AND MIGHTY. Enjoy! Please comment and rate tunes/videos. Task Force - The Junkyard - UK Hip Hop - Buzz fm Manchester One of the strongest hip hop tracks to come out of the UK in many years is this one. Task Force - The Junkyard, tells the story of the reality of growing up on a council estate in Inner City London. The truth is harsh and so is the listenning. Brutally honest, the lyrics may be a bitter pill to swallow for some, but to those who know how it is in the "hoods" of the modern UK, every breath spoken will ring true, louder than ever! Thoughtfull to the max, this is reality, this is Task Force. Task Force are an underground Brittish Hip Hop group from Highbury in North London, England. The group is led primarily by two brothers Chester P (vocals, song writing and occasional music production) and Farma G (vocals, song writing and music production). However, the Task Force family, also includes DJ Louis Slipperz (music production), Ramson BadBones (vocals and songwriting), Remus, D.Molish, Inja, Calculus, Merkamillion, Blinks, and Marley. Task Force officially formed in 1999, releasing their debut album New Mic Order. The album was produced by UK Hip Hop producer Mark B and features guest appearances from fellow Mud Family member Skinnyman and Mr. Thing of the Scratch Perverts. Task Force's releases have consisted for the most part, of vinyl-only EPs and singles. In 2000, Task Force released Voice of the Great Outdoors, which featured Braintax and Jehst, on Braintax's Low Life Records. Task Force started their own label, Music From The Corner, in 2001, and started to release a series of EP's - Music From The Corner Volume's. A darker, more intense series of predominantly self-produced albums followed. Task Force is currently working on Music From The Corner Volume 5 and both Chester P and Farma G are currently working on solo projects. Enjoy! Please comment and rate tunes/videos. Ruffa ft. Tasha - Dont You Worry - Buzz fm Manchester One of my all time faves this one! Never get sick of it! From the year of 1996, the classic pirate jam from Ruffa feat. Tasha DONT YOU WORRY. Ruffa, the man who has the kind of voice that sound's like he's been eating Gravel for lunch, and Tasha, with her "angel playin a harp" vocals, make this track what it is! I love the combination of Ragga/Reggae meets Street Soul/R+B. They dont get much better than this! Trina & Tamara - Joanne - Buzz fm Manchester Taken from the year of 1998 the classic from Trina & Tamara - JOANNE. I was surprised to see this tune had not been uploaded to the tube, so here it is. The Ladies choice most definitely on the radio! The sisters of RB singer Jesse Powell, urban duo Trina and Tamara hailed from Gary, in the USA, then the Powells relocated to Philadelphia in 1983, and there all four siblings, as well as their mother Emerald, performed in the family group Sheer Joy. When Jesse headed for Los Angeles in 1990, Trina and Tamara followed, and established themselves as session vocalists; as members of the group Something For The People, the sisters also scored a hit in 1997 with "My Love Is the Shhh.." Assorted Phlavors - (Flavaz) - First You Said - Buzz fm Manchester Another classic record from Assorted Phlavors!!! Taken from the year of 1997,First You Said. Pirate Radio classic!!! The spelling of the groups name has always caused confusion, with so many people spelling it different ways, hence my "double" header in the title of the track. The correct spelling is the "Phlavors" version. The female R&B quartet Assorted Phlavors is made up of vocalists LaKisha Johnson, Julia Garrison, Tiffany Phinazee, and Antonia Bryant. The group combines R&B, jazz, and hip-hop in their music. With great emotion and sensuality, the group has recorded such favorite hits as Be Patient, Tell Me, Don't Let Go and Make Up Your Mind, which can also be heard on my channel. Assorted Phlavors began in the early '90s when the members were still in high school. All the members brought experience and a new sound to the group. Garrison had performed both in church and high school, and then she met Bryant, who was born and raised in Yonkers, NY, and had been singing and performing since the age of 12. With the addition of Phinazee and Johnson, a new vocal group was formed. Phinazee had performed both in high school and publicly. She won first prize at an Apollo Theater amateur night. Johnson graduated from the Westchester Conservatory of Music. Under the name Essence, the group won a talent contest and decided to try their hand at recording publicly. After signing with Hall of Fame Records in 1995, the vocalists changed the name of the group to Assorted Phlavors. The group's image was gospel-oriented but was changed when the name changed; they became stronger and more versatile. The group's debut album is titled Assorted Phlavors. Combining jazz, classical, R&B, and hip-hop, the album saw immediate success. Produced by Dave "Jam" Hall, it contains the hits First You Said, a ballad, Don't Let Go, a lover's song mixed with soul, and Hiding Place, featuring vocals by dancer Patra, and Trust, written by Gordon Chambers and first released on the Anita Bryant Brownstone label. The song Hiding Place was first featured on the Money Train soundtrack. Assorted Phlavors' success is the result of the combination of harmony, emotion, and sensuality in all of their songs and albums. Doc Brown - In My Life - Buzz fm Manchester Re-uploaded to my channel is this fine tune by Doc Brown. For some reason, some tunes on my channel are showing on "my side" of the screen, but dont show up when you search for them? If anyone else has had this problem, and managed to find the solution, please let me know. Thanks in advance! Requested for upload by DIMEBAR 5, GEDSPEAK, BUSSTOPBOY and many other's at the time, this is the excellent tune by UK MC Doc Brown, from his debut album Citizen Smith Vol 1. The tune uses a sample taken from the Beatles. Doc Brown (real name Ben Smith) is a British rapper from North London UK. He is a member of the London rap group Poisonous Poets. He receives regular airplay on national radio stations such as BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra and Pirate station's across the UK. In 2004 he released Donnie's Lament, a collaboration with fellow Poisonous Poet Lowkey, featuring the duo rapping over a sample of Gary Jules' hit, Mad World. The song garnered major critical acclaim and especially heavy airplay for a UK hip hop track, arguably helping to increase the popularity of the genre as a whole. To hear the track, goto my playlists, and look for the Mad World remix, where i have also written more information on the background to the track. On 5 May 2006 he was featured in the BBC Radio 4 show Do You Know What You Are Saying?, a programme on the English language presented by Melvyn Bragg from UK T.V. program the South Bank Show. The programme considered and analysed language in light of a recently developed computer system that analyses the language used by a person, and which offers percentages for its linguistic content and origins in such categories as "Everyday English," "Anglo-Saxon," "Norman," "Dutch", "Old Norse" and so forth. Subjecting one of his songs to this analysis, Doc Brown was deemed to be using an extremely high percentage of Everyday English (over 92%), up in the realms normally only associated with "conventional" poets. His work also scored extremely high in Anglo-Saxon (82.9%), which did surprise him, in view of his circles of association and domestic and cultural roots (South London father, Jamaican mother). He commented that a lot of rappers are "impossible to understand." So, for him, the deliberate use of easily understood short words is very much to do with their rhythmic flexibility and musical potential. He describes using short words with impact as being like using a percussion instrument. Enjoy! Please comment and rate tunes/videos. Collie Buddz - Blind To You - Buzz fm Manchester Now then! There are not many white MC's/Rapper's/Vocalist's in history that can tackle music of black origin. Dare i even mention Snow or Vanilla Ice? But this man is something different. Collie Buddz burst onto the scene in 2006, after being totally unheard of before this time, unless you were from the island of Bermuda, where Collie was born and raised. It's fair to say that Collie has not always had the backing of the black community, but has stuck with it, and has pushed and pushed the boundry's of reggae music. Let's remember, Eminem was "distrusted" when he burst onto the Rap scene in 1999, and we all know where he is now! Collie has gone on to work with many US and Jamaican producers, hip hop and reggae artist's, including Movado, Busy Signal and Lil Wayne, and is now Bermuda's biggest export and has tackled the "haters" by proving that music is about music, not colour, race or creed. As he says in his lyrics "Who are them, they all talk, it's true me white like chalk, little puss they gone play the race card, im blind to you fuckin haters, cant touch me, bullshit creators". It seems a shame that even now in 2008, people are still ignorant to such issues as what colour your skin is! I say Collie's got it spot on. Fuck the fuckin hater's! Busy Signal - Unknown Number - Buzz fm Manchester Ive uploaded this tune for my good friend Goldie who asks me for this tune everytime im playing on the radio! The massive track UNKNOWN NUMBER by Busy Signal. Busy Signal has been propelled to the forefront of Reggae music, as he has proved over and over again that his talent is undeniable. His breakout single Step Out was definitely the hit song for 2005 and with a hardcore song such as that, a hardcore video followed. With so much energy and positive talk surrounding his camp and of course with the single on the Billboard charts, it was clear Busy Signal was on the road to being Jamaicas next superstar. Busy has always approached his music from a different perspective, he knew that as a young artist he had to stand out from the crowd, so he chose to record songs with concepts attached to them. The very first track of this nature was Born and Grow, Busy sang about what he knew, not sparing any details and painting a picture of Jamaica through his eyes. Reano Gordon was born and raised in humble surroundings on the beautiful island of Jamaica. He started signing hymns at his mothers church where he received encouraging response. He continued his performances at school, beating in time on the desk while Dj'ing Bounty Killa songs. The constant airplay of Born and Grow gave Busy the energy and drive to keep going, so he created track after track with creative flows and melodies and hasnt looked back since. Recording with known producers on popular rhythms wasnt his main focus; although hits such as the Renaissance produced Not Going Down, Pharmacy and the Busy Busy Busy from Don Corleon and Because of You with Tami Chynn on the throwback Giggy beat were all big hits and gave Signal that extra push in the industry. Busy has had many highpoints in his short career, especially at major stageshows island wide. He gave mind bending performances at Smirnoff Experience alongside Sean Paul, Bobby Valentino and others and of course everyone will still have images of the gas mask clad Signal stepping out at 6:45am on one of the toughest stages in the world the infamous Sting Reggae Concert. Busy has kept the momentum flowing right and gave an extreme and headline grabbing performance on the dancehall night at his first Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest in 2006. This experience was made better he was called up on stage by G-Unit on International night. Tours to the UK and Japan opened the doors to additional International exposure for Busy Signal and the response he received proved that he was definitely one to keep an on. The release of his debut album Step Out now meant that Busy was in the big leagues and expectations were set at a high. The album held the number 1 spot on the X-news Best Reggae Album chart for 2 weeks and was favorably reviewed by Fader Magazine. The early months of 2007 saw Busy spending most of his days in the studios turning out hit after hit including collaborations with another dancehall star, Mavado and newcomer Collie Budz. Another big break for Signal came with the Daseca produced hit The Days which is still receiving heavy rotation both locally in Jamaica and internationally. For me, UNKNOWN NUMBER is the track that he is best known for, with nuff jokes, as everyone can relate to the "should i, shouldnt i" situation, when somebody call's your phone, while withholding their number! A Tribe Called Quest ft. Busta Rhymes - Oh My God - Buzz fm Manchester Taken from the year of 1994, is this classic joint from a young looking Q.Tip and the rest of the Quest feat. a little known rapper at the time, Busta Rhymes, on the remix of OH MY GOD! A little known rapper! How crazy to be saying that today, 14 years later! It seems like Busta has been around since day one, but this was the first time id ever heard or seen him, so to me anyway, this is a classic video. Although he's not got much of a part in the track, or the video, it just wouldnt be the same without him. Also, Busta's name does not even get a credit on the title to the video! I doubt that ever happened again! Sorry for the video quality, but this clip is kinda old, and has done some time! Never the less, a quality old skool hip hop joint. Not much more i can say, apart from enjoy! Please comment and rate tunes/videos. Sybil Thomas - Rescue Me - Buzz fm Manchester Taken from the year of 1983, is this Disco classic from Sybil Thomas - RESCUE ME. Sybil Thomas is not the same "Sybil" from the late 80's who had hit's with Walk On By, and Dont Make Me Over, as many people have confused the two in the past. The track was released on West End records, and is very similar to Raw Silk's "Just In Time", but is way better as a dance song because of the strong keyboards and piano solo towards the end. A classic pirate radio joint! The late 80's Sybil by the way, was born Sybil Lynch in Patterson, New Jersey. So now you know! Enjoy! Please comment and rate tunes/videos. Fifth Of Heaven - Without You - Buzz fm Manchester Taken from the year of 1989, another Manchester street soul classic! Fifth Of Heaven - WITHOUT YOU. This is the follow up tune to the group's "biggest" track - JUST A LITTLE MORE, which can also be found on my channel. Many have wondered what happened to FIFTH OF HEAVEN? I'll try to answer that question! In 1989, the UK mainstream radio stations were out of touch with what was going on in the clubs, and the streets, so tunes like this were completly overlooked, and it was down to the pirate stations to push the real sounds of the underground. It's a shame that nearly 20 years later, nothing much has changed, with artist's, producers and vocalist's being completly ignored, and only getting airplay from the pirate dj's who have the passion and understanding of what the street demands! This is a true Manchester tune, recorded at the now closed Heaven studio's in Salford, Manchester UK. Fifth Of Heaven were STEVE WILLIAMS, who wrote the track, ANDY HICKEY on keyboards and the vocal's were provided by a little known vocalist called DENISE JOHNSON. Copy's of this deleated track are now rare, and sought after! What happened to the group after 89? Well, DENISE JOHNSON went on to work with scottish band PRIMAL SCREAM, circa 1990 - 1996, her most appreciated moment as lead singer with the Scottish outfit is most likely the acid house styled "DON'T FIGHT IT, FEEL IT" from Screamadelica (1991). But her vocal's can be heard on countless tracks, to many to mention, one of the last i know about was backing LISA RILEY on the track FEELS LIKE IM IN LOVE from 2007. As for STEVE WILLIAMS, he is still working hard in the music business and has gone on to play on and produce many artist's in the UK and the US, his latest being on US album from TYLER RAMSEY - A LONG DREAM ABOUT SWIMMING ACROSS THE SEA released in Jan 2008. And finally, ANDY HICKEY. Andy has again continued working in the music business on countless tracks/albums, most recently working with JASON HERD on his track SO STRONG from the year of 2007, and also playing keyboards for HERD + FITZ, J FUNK and also has played keyboards for r+b diva RHIANNA when she has played live. Andy also works out of LEEDS COLLEGE OF MUSIC in the UK teaching students keyboards. So now you know!!! Please comment and rate tunes/videos. Adina Howard - It's All About You - Buzz fm Manchester Taken from the year 1999, a classic from one of the true ladies of soul, Adina Howard - It's All About You. Adina Howard became a worldwide sensation with the funky R&B of her platinum debut album, 1995's Do You Wanna Ride, and its single, "Freak Like Me." Her follow-up, Welcome to Fantasy Island, was shelved just prior to release by Elektra. Despite a popular collaboration with Jamie Foxx on "T-Shirt and Panties," off the Woo soundtrack, Howard didn't release an official second album until 2003's The Second Coming (Rufftown). Hampered by distribution and promotion issues, it didn't receive much attention and sold poorly. Howard then switched to the Arsenal label, which released Private Show in 2007. Enjoy! Smif N Wessun ft. Mary J. Blige - I Love You - Buzz fm Manchester Taken from the year of 1993, the remix of Mary J. Blige's smash - I LOVE YOU remixed and featuring Smif N Wessun. Classic pirate radio joint! Part of Brooklyn's talented Boot Camp Clik, the powerful tandem of Smif-n-Wessun got their start on Black Moon's classic debut, Enta da Stage, in 1993. Rudeboy MCs Tek and Steele made their presence felt on the cuts "U da Man" and "Black Smif N' Wessun." In early 1994, the crew scored a massive underground hit with "Bucktown," a reference to their violence-plagued Bedford-Stuyvesant stomping grounds and "home of the original gun clappas." Their debut LP, Dah Shinin', followed soon thereafter, unleashing more heavy artillery from the military-minded BCC. With a canvas of dark, gluttonous beats provided by the gifted Beatminerz production squad, the duo expanded the limits of harsh-sounding, neck-snapping hip-hop by adding a melodic element. The crew released their album during the heyday of one of the most influential independent hip-hop labels of the '90s, Nervous Wreck Records, which many other indies (Rawkus) have patterned themselves around. Their recording alone, Smif-n-Wessun, implies violence, but the weaponry they deploy is also of the verbal variety. Tek and Steele both possess signature flows, the former a bit more straight-laced while the latter showcases West Indian influences. Dah Shinin' is a focused album with a sharp, compacted sound that still contains depth, albeit strictly from the dark side. Forced to reincarnate themselves after a legal battle with the Smith and Wesson firearm company, the duo resurfaced in 1997 as Cocoa Brovaz, a reference to their heritage and also to their marijuana fixation. Their second album (and first as Cocoa Brovaz), 1998's The Rude Awakening, was a more sprawling and chaotic venture, as well as being a shade more frighteningly dark. Since 1998, the two partners have released a few singles, including "Super Brooklyn," which features a superbly innovative use of a sample from the old Super Mario Bros. !Nintendo game. Enjoy!
