Good Mourning/Black Friday Gold-star - Rock Band 2 X Drums To answer one of the most common questions (What pedal should I use without paying hundreds for a kick trigger?), for the money, I recommend the "Destroyer Pedal", which gives zero double-hits, it's metal, and it's great for using heel-toe with. (Better than my DW5000, actually, due to DW's short footboards.) You can get it at http://www.rockbandpedal.net/ First documented gold-star of Good Mourning/Black Friday by Megadeth! Dubbed "the hardest rock band chart" by none other than azuritereaction, this one was definitely very difficult. (Though I still disagree that it's actually the hardest... I don't really think any song has decisively earned that title.) Big thanks to creep from my stream for encouraging me to go after this gold by dangling $20 in front of me. XD someguy913 at rockband.scorehero.com and www.rockband.com someguy913ps on Xbox Live My Accomplishments: http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=977 My Live Stream Feed: http://www.someguy913.com Info on my Drum Setup: http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5894 FAQ 1. Do you play real drums too? Yes, I do. I've been playing drums for a little over 4 years now, focusing mainly on trap set, with some limited hand percussion experience as well. Before I learned to play real drums, though, I also played Drummania, a drum simulation game made by Konami and part of the Bemani family of music games. It really got me interested in drums, I highly recommend it if you can find a machine near you. 2. What do you use to play Rock Band? Is your kit modded or something? Please see the link above entitled "Info on my Drum Setup". 3. How much did your setup cost? The Roland TD-6 SX-T that I use goes for around $2000 on Musician's Friend, probably cheaper if you look on ebay or Craig's List. 4. Wow, that's a lot of money. You really spent $2k just to play Rock Band? Nope, I bought the Roland kit months before Rock Band came out to do some recording and session work. I also badly needed a quieter way to practice drums in my apartment; an acoustic kit with silencers just wasn't cutting it. It was just very good fortune that I already had the kit when people began discovering how to hook up MIDI kits to Rock Band. 5. Ok, but isn't that kind of cheating? I suppose everyone will form their own opinions about this subject no matter what, but the official word right now is that it is not cheating. Posts on both ScoreHero and the Rock Band forums have been made about this mod, and both the ScoreHero mods, rockband.com mods, and Harmonix staff have ruled that this type of kit does not invalidate competitive scores. They have, however, ruled that any sort of double-bass pedal mod would invalidate such scores. For the record, I use a single pedal. 6. What do you use to record your videos? For the direct-capture I use an Adaptec Gamebridge. You can get them from Amazon.com for between $30-$50 USD. For the external view I use an older Sony Handycam. (It still records on Digital-8s...) 7. Why do you usually only hit the bass pedal during the Big Rock Ending? Doesn't that get you less points? For an explanation of how the points gained from a BRE work, please see the description of my Run to the Hills Gold-star video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPGiIZq93hE Alternately, search the Technique forums at rockband.scorehero.com for in-depth explanations of BREs for both guitar and drums. 8. Anything 5-star 1st Place - GHWT Expert Drums Judging from the XBL leaderboards, first documented 5-star of Anything by An Endless Sporadic. 1st place score as of 10/29/08 This is, hands down, my favorite song in the game so far. Vicarious 5-star (4-column) - GHWT Expert Drums EDIT: I've gotten more comfortable with 5 columns now, and managed to FC every section of this song in practice mode. :) So, this time, here is me playing in a more comfortable setting. I hadn't tried using the RB interface yet, figured I'd try it out. Basically it just merges the blue and orange columns, keeping the same chart and same number of notes. Since GHWT counts drum "chords" as one note, there shouldn't be any score difference even in the event of OB "chords". It's amazing what a difference this made for me. I'm still going to try to get used to the 5-column setup, but I find the Tool charts much more fun to play this way; they're still challenging, this is just more comfortable. someguy913 at rockband.scorehero.com and www.rockband.com someguy913ps on Xbox Live My Accomplishments: http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=977 My Live Stream Feed: http://www.someguy913.com Info on my Drum Setup: http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5894 Just mentally replace "Rock Band" with "GHWT" in the FAQ below. =\ FAQ 1. Schism 5-star - GHWT Expert Drums So, this is me getting used to the new GHWT drum setup. The sheer awkwardness of the placement of drums can't be overstated. You'll understand once you play. This is my 2nd time ever playing this song, though somehow it's a good 30k less than my sightread. O.o It was 1st for a few hours, then Centerstrain beat my sighread by 1k or so. Oh well. Also, during the "fill" sections, since I didn't really know the song, I was mainly just messing with the new velocity sensing, not really focusing too hard on making a coherent beat. Be gentle. The yellow pad was dropping some notes also. =\ Expect more WT videos over the next few days, as I get more used to the setup. Colony of Birchmen FC - Rock Band 2 Expert Drums To answer one of the most common questions (What pedal should I use without paying hundreds for a kick trigger?), for the money, I recommend the "Destroyer Pedal", which gives zero double-hits, it's metal, and it's great for using heel-toe with. (Better than my DW5000, actually, due to DW's short footboards.) You can get it at http://www.rockbandpedal.net/ FC (Full Combo: 100% notes hit without breaking streak) of Colony of Birchmen by Mastodon. For the record, I use a DW5000 single pedal. 6. What do you use to record your videos? For the direct-capture I use an Adaptec Gamebridge. You can get them from Amazon.com for between $30-$50 USD. For the external view I use an older Sony Handycam. YYZ FC - Rock Band 2 Expert Drums 1st documented FC of YYZ and current 1st place score! Happened so fast. O.o Yes, I know the video skips toward the end. My computer doesn't have very much RAM and must've lagged during recording, making it "jump ahead" to catch up. Nothing difficult was skipped anyway, and the results screen is still at the end of the song, so there would be no reason to splice or otherwise edit anyway. For the record, I use a DW5000 single pedal. 6. What do you use to record your videos? For the direct-capture I use an Adaptec Gamebridge. You can get them from Amazon.com for between $30-$50 USD. For the external view I use an older Sony Handycam. (It still records on Digital-8s...) 7. Why do you usually only hit the bass pedal during the Big Rock Ending? Doesn't that get you less points? Constant Motion Gold-star - Rock Band Expert Drums Gold-star of Constant Motion by Dream Theater, personally one of the bands I've wanted the most to be in Rock Band from day one. Still working on getting consistent at this song, but I have hit every individual section both in practice mode and in a real run, multiple times each. FC soon? This is my first attempt at using a real camera instead of recording from direct A/V capture. I originally was going to do a split-screen video (like IBitePrettyHard or AzuriteReaction), but the direct-capture footage was corrupted and unusable. :( So, instead I figured the drum-cam footage was better than nothing, so here it is, with the results screen direct-captured at the end from a separate file. I will continue my quest to make a split-screen vid, but I think this is halfway there. :) Enjoy! FAQ 1. Do you play real drums too? Yes, I do. Run to the Hills Gold-star - Rock Band Expert Drums Gold #57! someguy913 on rockband.scorehero.com and rockband.com someguy913ps on Xbox Live Live Feed: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/someguy913 Follow me on Twitter and receive live stream notifications! http://www.twitter.com/someguy913 EDIT: To all those asking about the Big Rock Ending: For drums, the amount of BRE points is locked, meaning you get 750 points for any drum hit within about a 1.5 second interval. So, no matter how many times you hit the drums within a given 1.5 second period of time, you will only get 750 points. If you hit just the bass drum, or any drum, once, you get 750 points; if you hit twice within 1.5 second, you get 375 points per hit. You get the idea. So, let me make this clear: The way to maximize BRE score is NOT to hit any many drums as you can as fast as you can. It is to begin hitting any drum as early as you can in the BRE section, and to finish as late as possible in the section, while hitting at least one drum at least once every 1.5 seconds in between. I chose to use the kick pedal arbitrarily, it just seemed the easiest to ensure that I hit as early and then as late as possible; I could have used any drum. Hope this clears things up and puts an end to pointless bickering. 3rd documented gold-star and current 1st place score cross-platform as of 7/5/08! Finally got this gold! It was the last possible on-disc gold-star for me to get. (Seven is mathematically impossible to gold.) Very close to an FC, only missed in two places!
