Signal 30, Part 1 (1959) Legendary driver ed film showing gruesome aftermath of horrific crashes. Films like this were part of teenage folklore from the fifties through the seventies, back before kids got to see dead bodies on the internet all the time. This was the grandaddy of them all. A facsinating and arcance piece of cultural history, from those pre-Ralph Nader days, when airbags didn't exist and seatbelt were considered optional. Still pretty shocking. "Daughter of Horror" - graveyard flashback Unknown to many, revered by a few, the impressionistic 1950s ultranoir "Daughter of Horror" is the definition of a "CULT FILM". The story is of a psychotic woman who is driven by a childhood trauma to kill men, and the tone vacillates between garish film noir and pure hallucination. The flashback scene in the cemetary is a true highlight. Note the fluid camera work. This is not a cheap B picture. Fans of the band Garbage may recognize that this scene inspired a few shots for the video for "Push It". Believe it or not, the lurid narration was supplied by John Carson's sidekick, Ed McMahon. Jean Schmidt cuts and runs, John Murtha doesn't On her first time ever speaking from the House floor, Representative Jean Schmidt causes a commotion by violating the tradition against personal attacks from the floor, accusing Rep John Murtha, a decorated Vietnam Veteran, of cowardice. Immediately afterward, she recants, and asks that her remarks be withdrawn from the record. Oddly, the person she "quoted" claims never to have made the statement attributed to him. It is one of a series of bizarre fabrications attrbuted to Ms. Schmidt.
